Gran Turismo 7 Time Trial: Taking Advantage

A brand new Gran Turismo 7 Online Time Trial featuring some of the latest content added in today’s 1.57 update is now available, setting players the challenge of getting very familiar, very quickly with a new car.

It’s the quickest and most expensive of the three new cars that’s up first, as the latest generation of Aston Martin Vantage makes its game debut and is immediately thrown into competitive action.

You’ll be taking the 2018 car for a blast around the Watkins Glen circuit, in its full configuration, for this Time Trial event which pits you against the clock and the fastest players in the world all at once. The goal is to set the fastest time you can on a solo hot lap, but you’ll be stacked up on a global leaderboard that determines what your reward is.

At 210,000cr it’s not the most expensive vehicle but you can borrow one for the event as usual if you wish. Either way, it’ll need to be on Sports Soft tires — which you’ll need to buy if you use your own car — for the event.

It’s early days in the two-week challenge, but we’ve seen an early flurry of activity that’s resulted in a current record of 1:51.155, with a handy gap of over three-tenths to the next-best. While that suggests a pretty competitive time, that 1:50.xxx will be looking close and tempting for the regular record-setters and road car specialists.

While a 1:54.489 is currently good enough for gold then, we’d recommend getting yourself into at least the 54.2s, if not gunning for any kind of 1:53 if you want to be safely in the highest reward bracket come the end of the event on April 10.

The kart challenge at Brands Hatch remains in place for another week, and it looks like times are right in the zone we were expecting — give or take a tenth. That said, tenths are enormous in this combination…

Currently the record is a 48.784, and that’s the only sub-48.9 time to date – and by quite some margin. That puts gold at 50.247, 0.003s below our original estimate, and it doesn’t appear that there’s anything left on the table. Nonetheless, that time moved by almost 0.2s this morning alone, so you might want to aim for a flat 50.2.

In order to access the Online Time Trials, you’ll need to unlock Sport Mode, by completing Menu Book 9 (“Championship: Tokyo Highway Parade”) in the GT Cafe single player hub. As it’s just you against the clock and not a direct, head-to-head multiplayer event, PlayStation Plus is not required.

You’ll usually need to be within 3% of the fastest time globally once the event finishes in order to secure “gold” status and a 2m credit bonus prize. There’s smaller prizes of one million for being within 5%, and 250,000cr for bronze at 10% off.

The events update every Thursday, with each individual challenge usually remaining available for two weeks and the oldest of the two events being replaced each week. You can look forward to the next new Time Trial arriving at 0700 UTC on Thursday April 3.
