The next Gran Turismo 7 content update, 1.56, is now confirmed to be coming to PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles on Thursday February 27.
We already had a bit of an inkling about the update contents and timing after an early teaser from Polyphony Digital studio head Kazunori Yamauchi. This showed the vehicle contents in their usual “silhouette” form, after which we saw the regular attempts to discern their identities.
In accordance with usual timings, a trailer has dropped today to confirm the new cars, along with a blog post covering the more obvious changes. We’ll have to wait until the update arrives on Thursday to get the full picture and patch notes, but for now this is what you can expect:

New Cars
We already knew that three cars were coming to the update, and made our predictions of what they would be. It seems that we weren’t far away, with the announcement giving a bit more detail on the specifics.
- BMW Z4 3.0i 2003 – Brand Central/Used Cars
- Peugeot 205 GTI 1988 – Used Cars
- Mercedes-Benz Unimog 411 1962 – Legends Cars

The big headline is, of course, the 1962 Mercedes-Benz Unimog 411, which will no doubt join the history books as one of the most unusual and surprising cars to be featured in a Gran Turismo game. The 411 is relatively compact compared to its modern Unimog successors, known for its remarkable capabilities. Don’t expect to set any speed records, though: the 411’s air-cooled diesel engine outputs a modest 34hp.
Another interesting selection is the 1988 Peugeot 205 GTI, a popular, light-weight French hot-hatch that is known for being feisty and fun drive. It’s joined by one of BMW’s most notable cars of the early-2000s, the convertible Z4 3.0i.
We won’t know how much the vehicles will cost until the update arrives, but we don’t expect a big outlay — even if 205 GTIs are starting to go for silly money at auction. We don’t think any will break into six figures, although the combined cost will likely be 250,000cr or less.
One additional note is a new color scheme for the Mazda 3 Gr4 race car. If that’s on your must-have list, it’ll probably cost more than the others combined at 350,000cr.

New Sophy Courses
GT Sophy is coming to two more tracks as of Update 1.56, both of which are located in Italy.
Monza’s full course layout — including the first chicane — and Sardegna Road Track B will now feature races with the advanced, machine-learning AI. Of course, GT Sophy remains a PlayStation 5-exclusive feature, so this is one that PlayStation 4 players will miss out on.

New Races & Menu Books
There’s three new races coming in existing World Circuits events, with what looks to be a race for each of the new vehicles.
While precise formats and rewards are unknown for now, the races comprise an Autodrome Lago Maggiore East run in the European FR Challenge 550 (Z4), Grand Valley South in the European Sunday Cup 400 (205), and the Sunday Cup Classic at Red Bull Ring Short (Unimog).
There is an additional Extra Menu Book that focuses on Peugeot. It looks like you’ll need to pick up the new 205 GTI, its mid-engined Gr.B sibling, and the 908 Le Mans racer for this.
It’s not going to be too expensive to do this, but we don’t yet know what the reward for doing so is. Five- and Six-Star Roulettes are the norm, making it unlikely to offset the cost…

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.56 New Scapes & Other Changes
A selection of 13 new Scapes locations themed around rapidly moving cars will be added.
“Panning” features race tracks and roads with brightly colored backgrounds to make a blurry backdrop to your panning shots. Exact locations are hard to spot right now, but the selection appears to span several countries around the world.
There’s no other information at this time, so we’ll have to wait for the patch notes to find out more specifics, including any new engine swaps — and if the now very overdue Suzuka signage change is part of it…
The update itself arrives at around 0600 UTC on Thursday February 27. Watch this space for all the latest!
