Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.24 Deployed, Fixes Game Progression Bug

Players logging into Gran Turismo 7 today will find a small update is now available, as hinted at by yesterday’s server maintenance notice.

Update 1.24 follows on pretty quickly from last week’s 1.23 content update and, as you’d probably expect from the timing and lack of fanfare, it’s solely a bug-fix update. That also means it’s not particularly weighty, coming in at 360MB on PlayStation 5.

The patch addresses one of the game’s listed “Known Issues”, and one which was introduced in the 1.23 update, regarding game progression — as flagged by several GTPlanet users.

Referred to as “Progression Blocker”, the issue would cause a game crash in the post-race screens of some single-player events. After completing a race and moving through to the screen which awards prize money, GT7 would crash out to the main console interface, resulting in no rewards for your efforts.

Naturally this was noted in some of the high-value reward races used by players to build up cash reserves for expensive “Legends Cars” vehicles. Although players had discovered that mashing the “X” button ameliorated the issue, the uncertainty over whether you’d get any reward for a half-hour of racing cause considerable frustration.

Fixing this issue seems to be the sole focus of the 1.24 update, with no other changes flagged in the update patch notes. However, as always, there may be various under-the-hood changes that haven’t made it into these notes; GTPlanet’s members are already looking at a possible update to the game’s weather radar.

Players awaiting the next content update will likely have to hold on until October 27, which is when we anticipate the thus-far-monthly addition of cars to arrive.
