Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.59 Coming May 15: Four Cars, More Sophy Events, & More

After a little slip-up at PlayStation HQ saw the vehicle content for the upcoming Gran Turismo 7 1.59 update revealed, we now have a little more confirmation on what the rest of the update will contain when it arrives on Thursday May 15.

The new trailer has now made its official debut after the false start last week, with the regular accompanying blog post now covering off further details — with more to come when the update actually arrives.

As usual there’ll be an associated game maintenance window that runs for around two hours in the morning — from 0600-0800 UTC — during which time the update will be released, though you won’t be able to access the majority of features until the maintenance ends.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.59: New Cars

Regular GTPlanet readers can pretend to be surprised at this point if it softens the blow of the leak last week, which confirmed the identities of the four cars coming to the game before the fact that there were four was even teased.

That made the usual guessing game something of a non-starter, as full make and model information was already displayed front and center. If you missed it, the cars are as follows:

  • Chevrolet Corvette (C5) Z06 2001 – Brand Central/Used Cars
  • Ferrari 812 Superfast 2017 – Brand Central
  • Honda CRV e:HEV EX Black Edition 2021 – Brand Central
  • Suzuki Carry KC 2012 – Brand Central

The list includes a couple of cars highly requested by the GTPlanet community, and a couple a little more out of the Polyphony Digital left field, but all four are permanent additions as they’re all new enough to appear in the fixed Brand Central dealership. Combined cost is likely to be close to 500,000cr, for the third month of sub-million updates in a row.

It’s likely that the Ferrari will be the biggest expense, with the big V12 grand tourer probably joining the car it replaced in the real world — the F12berlinetta — at around the 400,000cr mark. About as close as possible to not being a facelift, the 812 essentially takes what Ferrari learned from the limited-edition F12tdf and turns it up to… well, 812.

Sharing the front-engined, rear-wheel drive layout is about all that’s in common with the second vehicle, which updates a car from Gran Turismo’s past and fills in the gap in an otherwise complete set of generations. That is of course the C5-generation Corvette, in Z06 form, though as a 2001 vehicle it’s curiously a different model year from either the Standard/Simple or Premium models in GT3GT6.

GT players are always appreciative of a kei car — some joining the ranks of the most-requested vehicles — and a kei truck particularly. While it’s likely many would be laser-focused on the Daihatsu Midget, the Suzuki Carry is nonetheless a solid option and has some Initial D provenance too. The upgrades are going to be interesting, and we hope it’ll gain entry to the Pickup Truck series to mix it with the F-150 and Tundra.

Finally there’s a third addition to what seems to be a new category of interest for Polyphony Digital, echoing previous statements about the shift in types of vehicle people actually drive. That’s the C-segment crossover SUV, which gains the Honda CR-V hybrid, in fruity 212hp AWD specification.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.59: New Races & Events

Unusually there’s no word on either a Bonus Menu book or an Extra Menu book in the 1.59 update; given that the Honda make a third Japanese C-segment crossover SUV in a row, it would have been an ideal opportunity for a collection-based Extra Menu on that theme.

There will however be three new races added to the World Circuits list, and as usual each will center on one of the new vehicles in the update. The Ferrari Circuit Challenge event at Deep Forest is clearly aimed at the 812 Superfast, with the American Clubman Cup 700 adding a round at Interlagos for the Corvette, and the Suzuki Carry being adopted for a Lightweight K Cup race at Eiger Nordwand.

We’ll know the configuration and rewards for these events when the update arrives on Thursday, but that list does skip the Honda out for an event.

As we’ve seen a lot in recent updates, GT Sophy has expanded its capabilities to new venues — but only one this time round. That’s the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya GP course, as it continues to be available at a maximum of one variation per location.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.59: New Scapes & Other Changes

A new Scapes curation, appearing to comprise a mixture of existing locations and new ones, will be available. Going by the name “Shooting the Perfect Square”, this set of 17 spots is designed for photography at a 1:1 aspect ratio.

While the timings for this month have been considerably out of their usual routine, we’re in the familiar position of not knowing any more until the patch notes release with the update tomorrow. That will include details like new engine swaps, and any other changes from minor details to larger alterations.

That said, it looks incredibly unlikely that there’s a new circuit — as it would feature in the video teaser — meaning it’s now the longest time the game has gone, both in terms of updates and calendar months, between increases to the circuit counts. We’re even still waiting on the Suzuka Circuit signage update, first seen in August 2023…

The update itself arrives at around 0600 UTC on Thursday May 15. Watch this space for all the latest!
