Polyphony Digital has sprung a little surprise on us with the latest set of Gran Turismo 7 Weekly Challenges, which you’ll be able to access when your console’s clock passes midnight this evening.
Weekly Challenges comprise a curated selection of GT7’s World Circuits events, with five races posted each week. For the most part, those are drawn from those that already exist, but there’s a regular slot for a “Special Event” created just for the week. Completing these races during the seven-day period will earn you bonus prizes, with higher rewards the more of them you complete.
The surprise this week is in that special event, with the return of the All Japan GT Championship. This would mark the very first time that there’s been a fourth race in a unique set of Weekly Challenge events, with all others being retired after three.
It’s a ten-lap race at the reverse layout of Kyoto Driving Park’s Yamagiwa course, and there’s actually no restrictions at all on the vehicles you can use. The AI will all be using custom-liveried cars — some road cars, some race cars — to create an authentic-looking JGTC grid, so you can either go with the theme or anything else. There’s a 150,000cr reward for placing first.
Two more higher-value races await in the Vision Gran Turismo Trophy at Interlagos and the Race of Turbo Sportscars at Mount Panorama. The former is a seven-lap race for Vision GT cars at 850PP or less, with 88,000cr for victory — and be aware you may need to unlock it first. You’ll need anything with a turbocharger, at 700PP or less, for the latter, and you can earn 90,000cr for the win.
There’s a good bit less on the table for the remaining two events. The Big Willow course at Willow Springs hosts a three-lap race for road cars from the USA, with a 15,000cr first-place bonus. Tsukuba is the venue for a two-lap race for front-wheel drive road cars from Japan, and will score you a measly 7,000cr if you cross the line first.
The one- and three-event rewards this week are credit tickets — which you’ll need to redeem from your Garage’s Gifts section — at 100,000cr and 200,000cr respectively. Sweep all five and you’ll net a Six-Star Roulette ticket, which can reward you with either 500,000cr or 1,000,000cr, or a Brand Central car worth 500,000cr or more (including Invitation-only cars).
You’ll need to have completed GT Cafe Menu Book 39 and watched the ending movie in order to have access to the Weekly Challenges. The events update at midnight local time on Thursday evenings/Friday mornings, so we’d expect the next set on the morning of Friday December 13.
