A festive batch of Gran Turismo 7 Weekly Challenges is becoming available to players around the world, as local clocks tick past midnight, with five more events to tackle across the next seven days for some bonus rewards.
There’s more than a few surprises in store this week, particularly by way of the Special Event. This is a regular slot for a one-off race, which joins the four events pulled from the World Circuits list, and usually comprises a race from a theme which doesn’t have its own Menu Book already. This week though it’s a brand-new race in an existing series, and quite the race at that.
Not all of the events can be as rewarding though, and we start off this week with a gentle, two-lap run at the Sardegna Road Track B in the European Sunday Cup 500. You’ll need a road car from any European brand for this race, which awards 10,000cr for taking victory.
The first of this week’s two events which require unlocking (if you haven’t already done so) is the Silvia Sisters race at Deep Forest Raceway Reverse. It’s quite a wild event, given that you require one of the roadgoing 180SX/Silvia models (including the SilEighty) and they’re among the most modifiable cars in the game. It’s only three laps, and a 45,000cr winner’s prize, but you might need some serious hardware to cross the line first.
You’ll be getting a bit dirty in the World Rally Challenge race at the Rallycross course at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. There’s actually no vehicle restrictions here at all besides the Dirt Tire requirement, so you can go absolutely crazy here. It’s an eight-lap race (plus the initial “joker” start area), with 65,000cr on offer for victory.
The second event requiring an unlock is the Neo-Classic Competition race at the Big Willow course at Willow Springs. There’s quite the list of requirements for vehicle eligibility — made between 1980 and 1999, Performance Points no greater than 800PP, mandatory racing tires — but whatever you choose your primary concern is going to be strategy.
That’s because there’s a high level of tire wear and fuel consumption in this ten-lap race, so you’re going to need to drive to targets rather than flat-out and plan what should be your one and only pit stop. There’s some rapid AI in this race, and sticking to your plan is key if you want that 121,000cr victory bonus.
We’re left only with the Special Event this week, and that’s a brand-new challenge that’s set in the World Touring Car 800 series. That means you’ll need a car no higher than 800PP to take part — though other usual WTC800 restrictions don’t apply — and it’s worth noting that your opponents will all be Gr.3 vehicles as is usually the case.
You’ll be driving around the Mount Panorama circuit for this event, and for an hour (and a bit) as it’s a very rare appearance of a time-limited event. Tire wear and fuel consumption are set relatively low at a 3x multiplier, so you can probably make a one-stop on Racing Hard tires, or a two-stop on a mixture of Mediums and Softs work. It’s a relatively low payout of 140,000cr, but that’s offset a little by the bonuses…
For a third week in a row, the rewards are all in credit form. As with the previous two weeks you’ll collect 100,000cr and 200,000cr tickets for completing one and three races respectively, but there’s a big bump for completing all five as you’ll receive a 1,000,000cr ticket. Don’t forget that these are tickets to be redeemed from your Garage’s Gifts section, so — especially this week — don’t forget to claim them.
You’ll need to have completed GT Cafe Menu Book 39 and watched the ending movie in order to have access to the Weekly Challenges. The events update at midnight local time on Thursday evenings/Friday mornings, so we’d expect the next set on the morning of Friday January 3.
