Sony Pictures has published a second trailer for the Gran Turismo feature film which reveals more new scenes, dialogue, and footage from the upcoming movie based on the true story of GT Academy champion Jann Mardenborough.
The trailer starts out with new footage of a car chase, as a young Jann evades police while driving with his friends. “I’m not missing my race,” Jann says, implying that he needs to make it home in time for an online race in Gran Turismo. He appears to avoid the cops, only to face an even bigger problem as he arrives home to a very disapproving look from his father…
Another interesting shot reveals what appears to be Gran Turismo’s “racing line” driving assist projected onto an actual driving surface. It’s accompanied by dialogue of Jann saying he wants to drive the track “his way”, so this is likely intended to show that he’s using skills derived from the game to gain positions during the race.
This aligns with other dialogue from the movie frequently used in video clips to promote the film, as Jann reiterates that he “has driven this track a thousand times”. Clearly, the movie will be making the most of the fact that racing drivers can gain advantage by mastering tracks in driving simulators. Although that won’t be a surprise to most GTPlanet readers, for the average movie-goer, this could be a novel insight.
With less than three weeks to go until the film’s worldwide premiere on August 11, ticket sales have also officially kicked off in most major markets, so be sure to check local listings if you’d like to reserve a seat at your favorite theater.
As we have seen, early impressions of the movie from industry insiders have been overwhelmingly positive, with some even going so far as to call it “the greatest video game movie ever made”.
Of course, if you’d like to get the full experience, you can be part of the movie’s premiere in Amsterdam on Thursday, August 10. “Platinum Ticket” holders for the Gran Turismo World Series Showdown will have the chance to join an exclusive early screening at the Pathé Tuschinski Theater, followed by a Q&A with Gran Turismo series creator Kazunori Yamauchi.
And don’t forget: GTPlanet readers can score an additional 10% off a Platinum Ticket by using discount code “GTPLANET2023” during checkout. See you there!
