Gran Turismo Movie: Official Soundtrack Revealed with First Single, “And We’re Off”

With the Gran Turismo movie coming to cinema screens soon (although not quite as soon as it was), the film’s music composer Lorne Balfe has revealed the first track on the official soundtrack ahead of its launch on August 11.

Balfe, whose composing credits include several Mission: Impossible films, Assassin’s Creed video games, and the Le Mans mini-series which featured Jann Mardenborough’s LMP1 drive in the ill-fated Nissan GT-R LM Nismo, released the first track on social media.

The track is titled “And We’re Off!“, and is one of 17 tracks on the album — each with motorsport-themed titles. Balfe worked on the OST with fellow composer Andrew Kawczynski, who previously collaborated with Balfe on Terminator: Genisys and worked with Gran Turismo’s director Neill Blomkamp on Chappie.

It’s a heavily orchestral piece, which likely previews a theme for the score. As yet the other tracks aren’t available, although a full track list, with track lengths, is as follows:

  1. And We’re Off – 4:40
  2. Chance to Compete – 4:38
  3. Jann’s Journey – 2:47
  4. You’ve Been Selected – 5:17
  5. This Is Not a Game – 3:37
  6. I Will Be Your Judge – 4:22
  7. Brakes Were Glazed – 4:15
  8. Academy Race – 5:15
  9. Rhythms of the Road – 6:34
  10. Full Throttle – 2:45
  11. Breaking Info Form – 4:46
  12. Worst Fears – 4:03
  13. Lost in Depths – 3:21
  14. Proving Grounds – 2:54
  15. Riding the Edge – 4:48
  16. Follow Your Line – 2:57
  17. The Drive Within – 5:53

Alongside the original music composed for the film itself, Balfe has revealed a Spotify playlist of licensed tracks that feature in the movie.

We have already heard one of the tracks given prominence in the trailers: Hate Me Now by Nas, featuring Puff Daddy. That aside, it’s fair to say it’s an eclectic mix of tracks, likely containing something for everyone.

The music runs a weird continuum from Frederic Chopin’s Nocturne in E-flat major Op. 9, No. 2 (which you may recognize as the opening theme from Bad Santa…) up to 2022’s chart-dodging KILL DEM from Jamie xx of British indie pop group The xx — via Enya’s Orinoco Flow and some Kenny G.

We’ve embedded the tracks for convenience below, while you can also view the currently released score on a number of streaming services as provided by Balfe through a platform-agnostic link:
