A new gameplay video has given us an extended look at GT Sport’s VR Tour mode. The demo comes from Japanese outlet Impress Watch, who take a spin at Sardegna.
1v1 Duelling
The clip shows a navigation through the menus straight into the race. After choosing a circuit, the player then has to pick their weapon of choice. A wealth of N200 cars are up for selection but our driver for the day picks the Group B Ford Focus Rally Car, a good choice if we do say so ourselves.
Unfortunately, VR support in GT Sport is limited to 1v1 racing. We can imagine technical constraints played a part in this due to the level of detail in both the vehicles and track. Here, the Focus Rally Car faces off against the Group B Mustang and there are a few points of note. Polyphony opts for a HUD-less approach, fully immersing the driver into the vehicle cockpit.
Actual racing is very close with the driver and AI Mustang staying near each other for the majority of the race. Driving in cockpit cam is already an exciting experience but those with the PlayStation VR headset will be able to take it that step further.
GoPro Makes an Appearance
Last year, we theorized about the inclusion of GoPro and what this could bring to the series. In screenshots of the Group B Impreza WRX STI and the BMW M6 GT3, we saw GoPro cams tucked away in the interior. From our new look at VR gameplay, it appears the Focus is also kitted out with one of these cameras.
Eagle-eyed viewers may have spotted the camera to the right of the driver, as shown in the screenshot above. The detail seems to be a common occurrence in GT Sport’s racing car roster, so hope remains that we could still see a replay camera angle featuring the popular accessory.
