After a long hiatus, The Grand Tour season 2 is now streaming on Amazon Video.
Following up from the eventful first season, the second series promises to be full of the usual slapstick you can expect from Clarkson, Hammond and May. We’ve heard of the near death experiences during filming, now it’s time to see if it was worth the hassle.
Thankfully, episode one includes the car involved in Hamster’s huge crash. Titled “Past, Present and Future”, the featured segment involves a Honda NSX, Lamborghini Aventador S and the infamous electric supercar itself: the Rimac Concept_One. We’ll let you work out which car represents each time period, although it seems that Hammond at least will remind you throughout the show.
The accident, which saw the Rimac fall several hundred feet down a Swiss mountainside and end up on its roof on fire, is part of this first episode. Given how the team dealt with Hammond’s last major accident, it will be interesting to see what’s they say about this one. That alone should make it worth tuning in for this episode.
The first episode also features a new celebrity feature that takes the place of last season’s unpopular “Celebrity Brain Crash”. Sometimes funny, but mostly not, viewers are unlikely to miss it too much. Hopefully the segment will prove less worthy of skipping than last year’s effort — although the Star In A Reasonably Priced Car wasn’t exactly beloved of fans of old Top Gear either. Still, without ruining the fun, this new affair feels more akin to the old lap challenge but with an added twist.
Fans will be thankful to learn that The American has also failed to make his way into the second season. The other major change sees the Tour tent stay put. On the strength of episode one, that seems to result in fewer of the local in-jokes that fell a little flat in 2016.
Amazon will upload new episodes to the streaming service every Friday. Strap yourself in, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
