If you’re an EA Play subscriber looking forward to the launch of GRID Legends next week, then there’s some good news for your wallet. Depending on your subscription level, you’ll be able to pick the title up for a time-limited free trial or even completely free and with early access.
EA Play is the gaming subscription service from EA. It offers access to a library of games from the publisher at no extra cost, along with in-game rewards and discounts on digital content. It comes in at $29.99 a year (or $4.99 for the monthly subscription) at the base tier, with EA Play Pro costing $99.99 a year (or $14.99/mo).
As GRID Legends developer Codemasters is now part of EA following a $1.2 billion takeover in 2021, the title will be among those available in EA Play’s “Vault” when it launches on February 25.
That means that players who have access to EA Play on any platform — including Xbox and PlayStation — will be able to play a time-limited version of the full game from launch for no additional cost.
The trial will last for 10 hours in total, which should give you enough time to get through the game’s “Driven to Glory” live-action story mode, with some time to spare for playing around in other modes.
Any progress you make in the trial will carry over to the full game should you decide to pick it up once the trial ends. Of course EA Play subscribers also get a discount on the game price for the digital editions, which currently sits at 10% on both PlayStation and Xbox stores.
For EA Play Pro subscribers, there’s even more on offer. They’ll get access to the Deluxe Edition of the full game, which also comes with bonus packs, DLC entitlement, and three days early access. So long as your EA Play Pro subscription remains active, you’ll be able to play GRID Legends for no extra cost.
Importantly for those who play on Xbox and Windows, EA Play is included in the price of Xbox Game Pass for PC and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. That means that if you’re already a Game Pass PC/Game Pass Ultimate subscriber you’ll get the free trial, as well as the discounted digital edition, without any additional effort.
GRID Legends launches on February 25 on PC, PlayStation 4/5, and Xbox One/Series.
