GT Academy 2015 Officially Announced for Australia

Nissan Australia has confirmed that GT Academy will be returning to the “Land Down Under” in 2015, and it’s set to receive some high-profile exposure with an accompanying livery set to run on Michael Caruso’s #23 Altima V8 Supercar during this weekend’s race in Launceston, Tasmania.

Although the official announcement is short on details (there’s still no starting date), it does confirm the competition will be hosted within Gran Turismo 6 on PlayStation 3, and it’s expected that Australia will once again be part of the GT Academy International Region, which last year also included Thailand, India, the Middle East, and Mexico, which eventually produced 2014 champion Ricardo Sanchez.

For those of you unfamiliar with the GT Academy competition, it consists of a series of online time trials which are used to qualify the fastest Gran Turismo players from participating countries. The fastest players from each region then compete in head-to-head virtual races, and finally move forward to meet the best players from other regions at Silverstone’s “Race Camp” – a series of real-world driving tests made under the watchful eye of experts, who are typically successful racing drivers themselves. The overall regional winner will advance to score a professional racing contract with Nissan.

Be sure to visit our GT Academy forums, which are always a popular gathering place for competitors from all regions to share tips and discuss the competition with others from around the world.

Australians interested in joining the competition are encouraged to pre-register at http://www.nissan.com.au/GT15. Stay tuned for more GT Academy 2015 details soon.

Lol people actually still play GT6? Join and you will have a fairly good chance of doing well as most have given up on GT and PD

I can’t help thinking Winton will be a surprise track for a TT in the Altima V8SC. Nissan Motorsport got their first V8 win there and Ordonez and Krumm tested there. It’d be a new and challenging TT.

Good news for Aussies to see the GT Academy back for 2015.
I’m way too old to be worried about earning a spot.
The fact I’m too slow on track has nothing to do with it :p

So good luck to those who are aiming for the finalists camp.
Also crossing fingers the Kiwis get to join in on the action this year.

The most interesting part of this report though is the confirmation the Academy will be held on the PS3.
There was some school of thought that it may be the first representation of GT we would see on the PS4.
Seem those rumours can be be put to rest.

Coming from America and wishing there was lots more done for the Aussies. GT academy is a good step forward. But we need more than just three cars and one track from that continent/country.

Technically, Australia is about 0.3% of the population of the world. 1200 cars x 0.3%=3.6 cars. So they should have 1 more car…lol.

Since when was representing the worldwide car culture about who has the biggest population. By that logic shouldn’t America or Europe have more cars represented than Japan?

If the Altima V8 Supercar isn’t eventually a part of the 2015 GT Academy it’s really just cruel now :P

The only thing that’s been announced so far is the GT3 championship. I wouldn’t get my hopes up.

You guys can stop complaining now. :D Maybe you can thank Katsumasa CHIYO after winning the whole shabang that is the Bahthurst 12 hours.

Congratulations, Aussies. Best wishes to the lot of you competing to make it to the top.

No V8 races in the US? That’s a letdown and potentially a big loss for people who are into NASCAR. I bet, in the case of other FIA series like Super GT or Touring car series in general, Formula racing and even the endurance races which are held in the US aren’t showcased and televised on sports channels like ESPN is due to the lack of interest and respect we Americans have for racing.

Oh, things such as the Kentucky Derby, TOTALLY humane and moral – betting on animal races where the animals are put down if one legs gets broken – is very popular with the non-gearhead rich “enthusiasts” or gamblers and those with a slight interest in watching animals compete (with those munchkin jockeys naming their horses obscene, yet funny, entendres), finding it to be a sport worth broadcasting and supporting with those people and their ridiculous, jackass-looking hats. Yet, racing that isn’t NASCAR and not in the South is less popular than what most of “we” Americans think is a pointless sport in soccer. Not even Indy racing is given as much publicity as soccer/ football.

We cared so much when pride became apart our olympic soccer team after showing they had a chance running deep into the spot for a medal. Such hypocrisy and truly a lack of respect for a sport that has a deep insight of what sport and teamwork really is when compared to something like NASCAR – a sport which is much like soccer in which the work background work contributes to winning races and or events ultimately leading to a championship TEAM.

There’s almost ZERO coverage of other racing series on TV here. It’s one thing bugging me about ignorant views of the world we have. Yea, effin’ Dick Cheney saying Obama is the worst President in his lifetime (Obama the successor to G. W. BUSH for crying out loud). Ugh, the US needs to be provided with more world and political news and especially RACING!!!!!

      Rant over… :>)
