2011 GT Academy champion Jann Mardenborough has been featured in the latest episode of /DRIVEN, a regular show from the popular YouTube network, /DRIVE.
Although many of you are already be familiar with his story, Jann makes some interesting comments on his development as a professional racer and as a person, and how he hopes to become a roll model for other young, aspiring drivers:
“I want to show people that you don’t have to have lots of money stashed away, with rich parents, or know somebody in the sport who can fund your karting career, or fund your junior single-seater career. You can be just a normal person who loves racing games, car games, and motorsport, or just a petrolhead – and know that there is a route for you to achieve great things.”
A four-minute preview of Jann’s segment is available above, though the full interview is only available to /DRIVE+ subscribers. Regardless, it should give you a deeper perspective on one of the most important and promising ambassadors for our hobby.

This kid is something special. Great attitude and perspective at such a young age and in such a huge and storied sport.
That was very nice. I hope he continues to do well, and doesn’t “become a …..” like he hopes to not. ;)
He was the most marketable ‘find’ that year no doubt but he’s made the most of it and good luck to him.
Lewis mk2 perhaps?

Yeah, exactly… you’re a rare example of this.
Yea its not like this happens on the regular. 1 person per year out of MILLIONS of participants. Think about that for a sec. You have a better chance working your a** off saving money to pay your way into the sport than GT Academy.
Not trying to sound rude but, I must agree, the chance of winning GTAcademy, is as likely as winning the lottery(mega Millions). And with that much money, start your own Team…
^With the lottery, it’s random. With GTA, you can control your own destiny.
It’s just as random. Who can set the fastest lap before the timer runs out. I’m sure someone has gotten knocked out of the top 32 with seconds to spare, after holding a locked in spot for a while. A little luck is involved. Anyways, I’m very impressed with his achievements.
It’s not just as random, and you know it isn’t.
Either way, it’s more opportunity than there was before. Which was almost none.
