During an autumn of pseudonyms, the 2012 GT Academy winners have been training and getting their advanced race licences. With 2012 a little less than three weeks from an end, they’ve gathered at Silverstone to train together ahead of their ultimate prize – the 2013 Dubai 24 hours.
The first 2012 winner to break cover was Belgium’s Wolfgang Reip. The 25 year old from Lachutel won the European competiton in August. He was soon followed by 23 year old Mark Shulzhitskiy from Vladivostok who won the Russian Academy.
Two winners’ identites were kept under wraps for reality TV shows in their home countries but, in November, Germany’s winner was announced as 25 year old Peter Pyzera from Gladbeck – followed by the 29 year old USA winner, Steven Doherty from Plainfield, Illinois, who’d been racing under the name “Dan Mitchell” to get his licences!
The four represent the finest of over 1.3 million gamers and are all now at Silverstone for a month of hard training ahead of the Dubai 24hr on January 10th 2013.

loving Stevens specs upgrade :D good luck guys!
Errm strange timing of the article, better post something then nothing at all? They are all at home right now! They all had their training from september untill december including races to get there signatures. Back home they are further preparing by physical training, karting and virtual racing to perpare for Dubai 24H and to celebrate Christmas with their families!
*Is jealous* Good luck guys. Is Steve really short or is it just me? :P
I’m hoping we can catch these guys on American TV. SPEED shows them sometimes, but it’s hit or miss.
Don’t think so, especially since SPEED will be no longer in short time. I’m sure the race will be streamed live over the net though.
Really? No more SPEED? Awe, man. :(
SPEED isn’t no longer, the only thing that’s changed is that they lost their F1 deal to NBC / NBC Sports Network. They recently had expanded to have SPEED2.com to cover even more racing, so all they will do to fill the hole F1 left is to show more of the racing from SPEED2. SPEED isn’t going away, don’t let 1 connectors theories mislead you.
It’s fortunate that my cable provider carries NBC Sports Network because I read that my local NBC network (channel 4 in the Detroit area) is only to show a small number of the races, with the sports network carrying the bulk of them.
Well seeing that I also live in the Detroit area as well that is a good bit of information. I’m just glad that I upgraded from basic cable a year and a half ago so that I now get the NBC Sports Network. I was getting sick of missing all my indycar stuff, or watching a low-quality feed of the races for that matter, and now that F1 is on there I’m even more releaved.
