The Gran Turismo movie will receive an early premiere in July, making a debut as part of the Micheaux Film Festival, ahead of its global public release schedule in August.
According to Deadline, the Gran Turismo flick is one of several that will have a first-showing at the festival, now in its fifth year. Held in Los Angeles annually since 2018, the Micheaux Film Festival is named in honor of celebrated African-American director Oscar Micheaux and founded by actor Noel Braham and producer Courtney L. Branch.
The festival will get underway on July 10, at the Culver Theater and Regal LA Live, and run through to July 16. Gran Turismo will form part of the event’s closing night, and that may mean we’ll see some limited reviews of the film which took an innovative approach to driving action scenes using the remote-sensor capabilities of Sony’s VENICE camera system.
Along with a world premiere, there’s set to be a Q&A session for the film at the festival, though as yet it’s not been announced who’ll take part in that event.
Of course there’s plenty of high-profile people attached to Gran Turismo. Alongside the relative newcomer Archie Madekwe, who stars as Jann Mardenborough in a story based on the British youngster’s rise from racing gamer to LMP1 driver, there’s big-name stars like Orlando Bloom, David Harbour, and Djimon Hounsou cast in major roles.
Gran Turismo is also directed by Neill Blomkamp, while Gran Turismo series creator Kazunori Yamauchi serves as a producer — alongside Azid Qizilbash and Carter Swan from Sony Pictures, which is a partner of the Micheaux Film Festival.
Fans hoping to get an early look at the movie will be able to attend a special screening in Amsterdam on August 10, by purchasing tickets for the World Series Showdown which runs in the city across that weekend.
