GT Sport at China’s ACG 2016: New Images, Possible Location Reduction

GTS_Impreza
The newly-revealed Subaru WRX STI will be joining forces with the road-going N-series machines.

Important details regarding GT Sport’s mission challenges and tracks have appeared during the 2016 Animation-Comic-Game conference, revealing more on the game set to land on store shelves this November.

First up, several new photos have been spotted. They’ve all been captured from the livestream (via DualShockers), and are viewable at the bottom of the post. While there isn’t much that qualifies as completely new in terms of previously-unseen cars or tracks, the latest WRX STI gets a much more obvious confirmation of its inclusion. Our eagle-eyed community picked up its roofline and trademark spoiler in last month’s E3 trailer.

Oddly, 60 mission challenges have been confirmed, bringing the number of offline challenges to 115. The number was initially set at 62 — and still shows as such in the menu mock-up seen in the gallery — which means two tests seemed to have been dropped.

Possibly the most notable news of the day is a reduction in the number of locations that are going to make up the tracks of GT Sport, at least at launch. From the previously announced 19 locations, the number has dropped to 15 according to a slide from PD, albeit with the same 27 layout total. There were no further details given for this apparent change, but hopefully Polyphony clarifies this discrepancy shortly.

The newly-implemented Advanced Matchmaking System we previously covered appeared once again, allowing us to recap how it would all work. Driver Class will keep track of player’s speed and strength in races. The factors affecting this rank will be divided into three groups: Group Average Rating, Qualify Results and Race Results.

Sportsmanship Points will represent the behaviour of the driver through a list of conditions. Whether they will increase or decrease will depend on your driving manners.

I just wanna now what tracks will be included in this game, and if we will see new one’s with future updates. After months from the first videos and screenshot, only 5 tracks : nurb , brands, tokyo , willow springs, oval.
Will they include famous GT tracks? I remember seattle in a promotional video for NSX , or Acura.

Hmm folks going off the deep end and seem to not know how to read. The writer of the article said that the locations dropped yet the layout count remained the same. Does anyone think that something is off with that? Either the original number was wrong or they added more layouts per location. Now calm down and have a snickers, you’re not you when you’re hungry.

I’m more concerned with there being no mention of tuning up the stock vehicles at all, if this turns into PD’s version of Project Cars, I’ll be a bit upset as that game’s lack of tuning made me drive only race cars as street cars handle terribly on race courses with street rubber(all the tires are street rubber only certain top tier cars had close to track rubber to select).

    1. Samus

They could have added some layouts with tiny variations to make the numbers up, like no chicane Monza.

Ive never found that street cars don’t handle “terribly” on race courses, rather, they handle naturally, the way they were designed to from the factory. Putting racing slicks on a street car is not realistic either as the rest of the car is not designed to handle the dramatically enhanced levels of grip and, to me anyway, it completely destroyed the natural character of the car that PD worked to create.

That’s where my confusion lies. Are they like the mission races in GT6 or are they series that they call mission races?

I’m a little confused here. Are there 115 individual missions broken up into 60 different series, i.e., Sunday Cup, FF series, etc? If so, that doesn’t seem as bad as I previously thought. Unfortunately, this is often the issue I have with PD. They are always so “tight-lipped” when it comes to features of the games and what we’ll actually get.

well well well … let’s be frank , this game is so disappointing for the old GT fans.
This game is all about pro racing , race cars and all that stuff
original gran turismo games have like 20% race cars and 80% road cars
with this game they target a minority of their fan base and it is sad but it’s like that
anyway i will really switch to Forza this time i’m really tired to be loyal to this …

Ps : sorry for my english i’m french .

Gran Crap- mini version of a gt game

Project Crap – released last dlc- no fix on bug nurb combined…

cards rest on assetto corsa…they need more tracks though

    2. mister dog

Good choice, i wonder how you could have stayed loyal for that long, i had enough of it about 4 years ago with GT5 even. It will open your eyes how far racing games have come in comparison to PD’s efforts.

  5. Scuderia Paul

I really hope GTS includes Circuit de la Sarthe. I will be hugely disappointed if it doesn’t.

    1. Scuderia Paul

Yeah! That is the dream addition for Assetto Corsa right there. Circuit de la Sarthe and the three factory LMP1-H cars.

    1. Johnnypenso

I don’t think anyone is debating their choice of terminology, moreso the fact that they reduced the track location count by more than 20% within a few months of release.

    2. Kyle Patrick

Yeah, but the number was 19 previously. I do see your point about the interchangeable terms though, so the title has received a slight change to better reflect it.

  6. TeamCZRRacing

Hmm, 15 tracks still isn’t a terrible selection, IMO. Of course, the biggest factor is how fun the tracks themselves are. Personally, I’m hoping for a decent selection of original courses, as PD has a definite flair for those (excluding the new Tokyo track, although that can likely be excused since the game isn’t finished yet).

    1. chengman

If they add new tracks daily, it would be fine. Otherwise it’ll get boring really easily like GT6 now.

    2. Johnnypenso

PD doesn’t have a great history of adding large numbers of new circuits post release. Even little Kunos is more prolific than PD based on history IMO. Curious though, what number of tracks would be a terrible selection to you? 10? 12? Another number?

    3. TeamCZRRacing

I’d say at least 10, but it depends on how fun I find the selection of tracks. I’d rather have 10 Nordschleifes than 10 Tilkedromes.

    4. TeamCZRRacing

Oh, and chengman, I find it funny how you conveniently ignore the thousands of Course Maker tracks. That’s very fair indeed.

    5. Northstar

Created tracks, while a decent stand in, are nothing compared to a fully modeled version of a course.
