GT Sport Daily Races: Keeping Focus

A new set of GT Sport Daily Races is with us for the next seven days, with a spread of events that should have something to suit all tastes.

The action kicks off with Race A, this week featuring Ford’s front-wheel drive, Focus ST warm hatch. This model of the Focus has an unusual six-speed gearbox which features two different output shafts to give different final drive ratios depending on whether you’re in 1st-4th gear, or 5th and 6th (or reverse).

However this isn’t likely to come into play much this week, as you’ll be driving the Focus at the short, Tsukuba Circuit. It’s a specially provided car, so you only need to pick what color Ford you want for the six-lap race at the flattest track in the game.

Race B moves the action into the Gr.4 cars, which are broadly equivalent to GT4. These are machines that are, other than the Megane Trophy, closely based on road-going cars, essentially stripped of as much excess weight as possible and fitted with race grade tires, brakes, and suspension, and the faintest hint of aerodynamic devices.

For this week you’ll be racing the cars at the fictional Autodrome Lago Maggiore circuit, in the shorter West layout. This version of the track skips out most of the first sector, including the long downhill run to turn five, and instead switches back to the bridge section.

As is usual for these events, it’s the front-wheel drive cars that currently lead the qualifying times and with no tire wear for this five-lap race you’ll likely want to run in the Audi TT, Peugeot RCZ, Renault Sport Megane, or Volkswagen Scirocco for the best results.

Race C ups the pace considerably, with the fastest tin-top race cars in the world. GT Sport’s Gr.2 class consists of six Super GT machines, with one from each of Honda, Lexus, and Nissan, for each of the 2008 and 2016 seasons — and it’s usually the 2016 Lexus and Nissan that are the cars of choice.

It’s a highly appropriate venue too, as you’ll be tackling the awkward, and usually off-camber, Autopolis circuit for the 12-lap race.

There’s also a pit-stop requirement this week, with players needing to use both the Racing Medium and the Racing Soft during the race; failing to do so will result in a one-minute penalty in the final classification. You’ll also need to be aware of the tricky pit entry here, which trips up even GT Sport world champions from time to time…

These three races will run through to Monday November 15, when another set will replace them.
