The last FIA Certified Online Championship World Final in Gran Turismo Sport is now part of the history books, as we all look forward to Gran Turismo 7 taking over following its launch on March 4 2022. There’s still plenty of life left in the PS4-only title though, with at least 13 more weeks of Daily Races — starting today.
For this week, Race A thrusts you into one of the cars of the moment. Toyota’s GR Yaris might not ever fill its true brief, to act as a basis for the brand’s World Rally Championship contender, but the homologation special road car still made it into production.
You’ll be racing the little all-wheel drive hot hatch at the tiny Brands Hatch Indy Circuit, for a seven-lap race that’s sure to involve a lot of scraped door handles and mirrors.
Races B and C are more routine GT Sport offerings, putting you behind the wheel of the game’s key esports classes of Gr.4 and Gr.3 race cars.
It’s the Gr.4 cars — road car-based racing machines, stripped back to basics and roughly equivalent to GT4 — up in the sprint race, which is this week at Italy’s Monza circuit.
Regulars will know exactly what this means: it’s time to whip out your Bugatti Veyron. Nothing else in the class comes close to the Veyron’s pace at this track, even for a short, four-lap dash like this week’s race.
Meanwhile Race C whisks you to a rarely seen circuit in Daily Races, with the Alsace Village course hosting the Gr.3s. It’s a tight, twisty, and awkwardly cambered circuit that is better suited to road cars and slightly less powerful race machines, but you’ll have to pick a GT3-equivalent Gr.3 for the ten-lap event.
There’s also a tire consideration to be aware of. All drivers must use both the Racing Medium and Racing Soft tire during the race, or face a one-minute post-race penalty. For anyone feeling sneaky, pitting before you reach the start line on the first lap, or pitting right at the end of the race, won’t satisfy the requirements, even if the 6x tire wear rate might make it possible to run the distance on one set.
The three races will run through to Monday December 13, when another set will replace them.
