GT Sport Daily Races: Straight Down the Middle

GT Sport Daily Race fans have another set of three new races to keep them entertained for the next week, and all three look set to be a bundle of fun. There’s two events for the Gr.4 and Gr.3 race cars (the in-game equivalent to GT4 and GT3), and a very odd car choice for the Race A event which should prove interesting.

The Gr.4 cars make an appearance in Race B. These are vehicles closely based on road cars, with as much weight as possible stripped away and some race-grade components bolted on in place of the road parts, and as such there’s a wide range of drivetrain types available. That means plenty of variety in the five-lap race, which takes you to the Red Bull Ring in Austria.

Without tire wear in this race, there’s no need to pit to swap the racing medium tires for a fresh set. That also means the front-wheel drive cars, which were on the receiving end of a balance of performance update recently, might re-enter the fray as contenders for this race, but you have free choice from any Gr.4 in your garage.

Race C meanwhile puts you in the Gr.3 cars. These are far more serious race cars than the Gr.4s; still based on road cars, but much more loosely. Like GT3 machines, they often only share a body shell and basic engine layout with a road car equivalent, with all being rear-wheel drive and packing around 600hp without BOP’s influence.

Again it’s a free car choice, for a ten-lap race around the Sardegna Road Track A circuit. There will be tire strategy at play too, as all cars must use both racing medium and racing soft tires during the race — or face a one-minute post-race penalty — and an 8x tire wear multiplier which effectively means you’ll have to account for 100 laps of degradation throughout the race.

That leaves Race A, which is a very unusual head-to-head between two mid-engined road cars which could barely be any different. The first option is the second generation of Toyota’s MR2, a two-seat coupe, with a two-liter turbocharged engine and very much designed from the first stroke of the pen as a mid-engine car. Alternatively you can select the Renault Sport Clio V6, which is a three-door hatchback that someone very unwisely chose to rip the rear seats out of and replace them with a three-liter V6 from an Espace minivan.

Both cars have something of a reputation, with the Clio’s short wheelbase making for some very odd handling traits, and the MR2 littering ditches around the world every time it rained through the late 1990s/early 2000s. However, each has a race-specific preset tune, and on sport soft tires should prove pretty engaging for the four-lap race of Lago Maggiore’s short West course.

These three races will run through to Monday, March 22, when another new set of three will replace them.
