The wait for GT Sport’s missing livery editor feature is over: the decal uploader is now available to everyone. The feature allows players to upload their own decals in .svg format for use in the in-game livery editor.
If you’ll recall, Polyphony first made the feature available to a limited number of users earlier this month. The reason for its delay and eventual slow roll-out was due to concerns of server stability. With the waiting period out of the way, players can dive in and make their cars unique.
As a quick reminder, SVG images shouldn’t exceed a data size of 15kb. SVG, or Scalable Vector Graphics, is a text-based format at its heart. Decals saved in the format can have their dimensions enlarged or reduced without any loss of image quality. Players who find that their images exceed 15kb will need to do a bit of work before uploading them to the game. Luckily, syntex123 has that covered with a great community thread for those unfamiliar with the format.
Once the created decal is good to go, head over to the user page on the official website, sign in, and upload your image. You can then find your uploaded decals in-game in the Decals section of “My Library”. A quick look at the online manual reveals a few provisions:
- Lettering will be converted to outlines
- Ensure special blending modes such as addition and multiplication have not been used
- Ensure that bitmaps have not been embedded
- The SVG file version should be 1.0 or 1.1
The feature’s mass availability is the perfect complement to our Photomode Competition. Week 4 of the GT Sport competition kicks off soon, and this will add more personality to an already impressive list of entries seen so far. Even better, the feature’s full release prefaces next week’s 1.06 update that introduces more cars to the game, among other things.
There’s plenty of activity going on in the Livery Editor sub-forum, and this is sure to make things crazier. Even if this isn’t your cup of tea, you can head over to the request thread for a helping hand!
