The latest GT Sport Time Trials have arrived today, bringing a pair of fresh challenges which this week includes one of the most recognizable cars of the last decade.
Our first event for the next two weeks sets you in very familiar territory. You’ll take on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit, at one time the home of the British Grand Prix, which has been a fixture in GT Sport since the pre-release beta. For tackling this tricky track in Kent, UK, you’ll have a free choice of Gr.4 race cars.
These machines are closely based on road cars, with severe weight reduction, tuned engines, and race car aerodynamics. The twisty Brands Hatch track doesn’t have much for straight-line speed machines, so you’ll likely need to pick something light and maneuverable, with a punch out of corners. Expect front-wheel drive dominance.
The tuning event takes you somewhere that straight line speed is incredibly important. Circuit de la Sarthe, the home of the annual 24 Heures du Mans endurance race, is full throttle for much of the lap and the huge straights give you plenty of time to get up above 200mph in the right car — and you have the right car; the base livery is even Le Mans-themed.
Your weapon will be the hybrid hypercar McLaren P1, in track-special GTR form. The P1 GTR has plenty of power on tap, and you’ll have free rein on tuning the car to suit the circuit even more. One particular note is that the car has a drag reduction system (DRS), so if you don’t already have a button mapped for the purpose you’ll need to do so or risk losing significant top end speed.
GT Sport’s Time Trial mode is a global competition, ranking your best time against all players worldwide, rather than just those in your region as with other Sport Mode events. These two time trials will run through to August 13, when two further events will replace them.
