As the v1.23 update lands, GT Sport players are having to get used to a rather unusual retrograde step. Polyphony Digital has changed the scheduling of the game’s Sport Mode Daily Races. Rather than daily, they’re now weekly — although still called “Daily Races”.
In fact this is a return to the game’s original scheduling. At launch the first set of races lasted for a full week, only rejigged when players discovered the most effective tactic for the N-class garage car event. The second set lasted for a week too, until Polyphony Digital changed things. The races then refreshed every day, meeting a pre-release comment that “event contents will be updated every day”.
This has now reverted back to its original state, as of the end of Monday’s maintenance period and the v1.23 update. The official statement reads:
Starting on Monday, July 30, 2018, we will be changing the update interval for daily race events from every day to 1 week.
This will be implemented from the end of the server maintenance on that day.
The hosting hours of the races will not change. Please continue to enjoy Gran Turismo Sport.
Naturally there are positives and negatives to this change. With only three possible car/track combinations, you might soon find that if something isn’t to your liking, you’re effectively shut out from Sport Mode for an entire week. Some events are more likely than others to cause massive drops in Sportsmanship Rating. Should such an event come up, you’re stuck with it — or nothing — for a week.
The counter to this is that should a great combination come up, you’re not as likely to miss it. Many players don’t have the time to race every day, and the new schedule means that they can race any day of the week.
A resolution to both concerns would be additional Daily Races. However there doesn’t seem to be any plan for this at present.
