When Polyphony Digital launched Gran Turismo 5‘s new Photostream service in Asia two weeks ago, they also mentioned the game’s previously announced “March 2012 update” had been postponed.
Since that time, fans have become increasingly restless to learn about the company’s future plans for the game. Although there’s still no details, we do now have a potential date to hang our hopes on: Wednesday, April 4, 2012. Polyphony will be taking GT5’s online services for approximately two hours, starting at 05:00 GMT/UTC.
It’s very important to remember that online maintenance does not always mean the game will be updated, and it certainly does not suggest new downloadable content is about to be announced. Most likely, this maintenance period will see the launch of Photostream service for North America and Europe.

How about adding the ability to specify the number of laps between pit changes in B Spec? For example, going by driver strength makes no sense on courses such as Nurburgring, where a driver could last for 10 or more laps but not the tires. Having the ability to set the number of laps between pit stops makes much more sense.

What makes no sense to me is why do you always have a full tank of petrol . Wouldn’t it be better if we could choose how much fuel we would like to use .
What do you mean? You can turn on Fuel consumption/tire wear… and when you pit, you can choose how many liters you want to refuel. Unless you mean choosing how much fuel you have at the start of a race…

I think there are 3 minor but crucial updates that PD can give us to improve on an already great gt5. 1- a restoration coupon that undoes the non reversible upgrades, i.e weight reduction, engine upgrade & chassis reinforcement bar. 2- the ability to tune suspension individually for all 4 tires, mainly camber & toe but only for Nascar since all nascar tracks go in 1 direction. 3- an option for tire selection with 2 configurations, or less (which we already have) and only, this way races can be restricted to just 1 tire. But do it in a way where we still have option to choose between or less & only.
Another small update that can be added also is random grid, for rooms that don’t use qualifying but find reverse grid too predictable. so it would go, Fastest first, Slowest first, Reverse grid based on results & Random grid. Everything i have outlined does not fall under the category of DLC. These are small fixes that will improve the game drastically & should be easy for PD to program and send as a patch.
keep in mind i’m not here begging with unrealistic expectations like 90% of you others do. my suggestions are focused more on fine tuning the game with free downloadable patches to improve our racing experience, not unnecessary and idiotic requests for stuff we really don’t need. If there is anyone out there with the power of influence over PD, please share my suggestions to them as i know it will be greatly considered, TY.
ummm some of these things you suggested are already in the game i.e. fastest/slowest first reverse grid based on previous results. no ones suggestions should be classified as idiotic just because you have different ambitions for what you think should be implemented into the game.
How about some more brake tuning options? Much like how you have various transmission kits, you’ll have a few brake options, like carbon-ceramic brakes and other ceramic composite brakes; have them range from race-spec to common street cars.

We have been notified of up-coming maintenence and, if you have any semblance of brain-wave activity, you would remember that it’s generally in USA time and they (PD) let us know that the time given may not be the time it is done!
PD do take ALL our suggestions on-board and will do their best to get what they are ALLOWED to give us to us! Licencing is a bitch and generally comes with RULES – not just in design but in release time – so stop complaining…!!!
GT6 will not be out for another 4 years at the earliest, so there should not be any speculation about what’s going to be in that! Remember, everyone said that GT5 was finished before the PS3 was released…But it wasn’t, was it? What makes anyone think that GT6 is done? All we KNOW is that it is on the cards. Even PD have not officially confirmed its existence!
One thing about GT6; if it is to be a release title, then it will be coming surprisingly soon; the Playstation Orbis (next-gen Playstation for those who don’t know) has been given a set release date for “holiday of 2013″… I’m not saying it WILL be a launch title, but if it is, then we could expect it in the next 1.5 – 2 years…

Theres all these licensing issues PD has to get around to get Porsche in, but I can see the Dodge Viper coming in… I think PD should try to get appealing cars that Forza DOESN’T have yet; like the F12 Berlinetta, BMW i8, Acura NSX Concept, and the list goes on; it’ll grab more attention. It’s a bit like Guitar Hero and Rock Band; the two games use the nearly all of same songs as each other, so no one knows which one to choose; if a game has something another doesn’t, (songs, cars, weapons, etc.) then you will be able to more easily choose. I DO NOT wan PD to get an exclusive license like EA; it’ll ruin the fun for fans of other games, and make us and PD look like @$$holes.

I wouldn’t mind a crazy JDM A-spec seasonal :) with skylines, Evos, supras, etc. 5 laps of Spa, Trial mountain or any epic track.
Guess we all just hoping for something new DLC wise. I try to remain positive that this is PD best kept secret seeing as news of previous DLC was released (leaked) days before the Scheduled Maintenance. If not then will be tolerant of any game server improvements/upgrades. At this point better than nothing though doesn’t mean we wont see something this month (i hope) but probably best to fix game issues to ensure possible DLC will work right. If anyone noticed first DLC came with some issues that affected online play (hit start at 123 countdown i.e. Rolling Start) just my theory.
Nothing new so I guess we have to wait … Again …. Tommorow we ll have new seasonal events , that’s something to hold us wright ??

The most likely thing we’ll get is the 2013 Acura NSX… We already know it exists, I don’t know why it’s taking so long to “finish” the car and release it… It’d be cool if it came out along with the BMW i8; it just got announced as a 2014 production car, an it’s got a lot in common with the NSX…

This is only a maintenance for the online servers, not an entirely new update. Don’t get your hopes up too high.

Well, it is SORT OF related, its mostly just turned to speculation of what the maintenance means, which immediatly just turned to assumptions of DLC and an update. I believe that there WILL be some sort of update aside from the Photo Stream feature; Kaz stated that the “March Update had been postponed” AFTER the Photo Stream was launched in Asia… This is just my take, anyone can feel free to shoot it down for me.

I think that everyone should stop moaning at gt5 because it’s a brill game yes it could use with some of the old tracks and old American muscle and more hot hach cars but I think instead of waisting time moaning make up a new online even that is fun and play it if not just stop playing it and stop complaning cos it’s doing my head in.

judging by that video, the car is obviously fully modeled and undoubtedly is releasable. So I just wonder why hasn’t PD released it yet.
By the video, it looks like the interior hasn’t been modelled, yet.
The Real NSX Concept has such a dark window tint, that the interior is quite hard to see from the exterior. I think it probably just looks like that because of those dark tinted windows and the fact that the car is constantly in motion during the video.

they may not have gotten all of the programming in place for the mechanics of the car; it looks a bit more complex than most cars in GT, so that could be it… and as Counter said, the interior might not be finished… I’d imagine the car’s finished by now…

Thanks for the reply foefke, I dont mind your writing at all, I understood it all. Granted GT5 is a little better now then when it was released, I mean, they only had 5 years to complete it in the first place.
And as far as your question to me…. Thats just it, I dont get the feeling of driving a racecar in GT5. In order to get something that half way resembles a feeling as you put it, there are a number of things that has to be present. And for me those things are Sound, immersion and visual.. The sound kinda sucks, and I bet I am not the only one that thinks that after comparing it to other games. Immersion wise it just lacks the feeling of being connected to the car, like when you go into a turn and the rearend starts to slip…. the feeling just is not there for me. And i have the G27 setup with playseat before anyone starts saying that i need a decent setup to get that racing feeling.
Visuals… well, they are ok but somehow it all feels a bit clinical and boring… Take a look at the tracks for instance, do you really think that the tracks looks like that in real racing conditions? Like they were just sweped and washed, in real life you would have bits of rubber and debris outside the racing line..
But I hope that you are right and that GT6 will be better when/if it comes out, because they need to get an edge in somewhere to be on the top..

For console GT5 is The leest Arcade at the moment , for visuals it is far from wath it is in reality but one more time it is the nicest at the moment .

Yes…because an FPS is the perfect substitution for a Sim racer. How about you get a life instead of coming on here and insulting the requests, complains and criticism of others. Being passionate about something does not mean that ones doesn’t “have a life”. It doesn’t take me more then 2-3 minutes to get on my phone, check GTP and leave a comment or 2. Easily done during my lunch break, with enough time left to check Facebook, ESPN and play some Scrabble with my wife.
I agree some of these guys go a little over board, but a lot of the guys I know who play GT5 only play one or 2 games, and whenever I turn on my ps3 they’re either playing GT5 or on Netflix. These guys are older gentlemen and a lot of them have families. I don’t find anything strange about them voicing their complaints and demands for something they invest so much time in.

Just went on the Granturismo website for Japan and the maintenance is up for Japan as well. So for us in Europe/US this isn’t just the new photostream feature update because Japan already has that and they have a Maintenance notice up too.

Usually a server maintenance leads to an update, which leads to anew DLC pack. Not always had it, but usually it seems to do so.
They should really add more modern lemans cars like the audi r18 or peugeot 90x or the aston martin lola

Whats with all this pessimism? I’m seeing a whole lot of people saying that there is no DLC coming, an that GT5’s support is being cut off… I don’t get it, the DLC is still following its “2 month schedule”, its just coming 3 months after the previous DLC which was 1 month early… Simple math: -1 late month, +1 early month =0… So its still on time. People are saying that theres nothing that could be possibly added to the game now; what about Bathurst? Silverstone? a few classic GT tracks? Gumpert Apollo? Audi R15 and R18? Those seem simple enough to add in… I’m also seeing people wo don’t even WANT DLC! So you don’t WANT any new tracks or cars that have never been in the series yet? You wouldn’t want Seattle Circuit if it was provided? REALLY? I’m getting annoyed with the “I want free DLC!” people… It’s kinda selfish, if you ask me. They use the money earned from the DLC to make MORE DLC (and probably fund GT6)… And, they’ve already given you a bunch of free stuff; 2011 NASCAR liveries, Toyota GT-86, Nissan GT-R from 24HR Nurburg, interiors and rims on Standard cars, and the list goes on. You may say you “deserve” some because you bought an incomplete game, but thats not PD’s fault. The game’s release was forced by Sony, and PD wanted 2 more years on GT5. The few free cars they gave us no one was asking for. PD Jjust threw us some insignificant cars patted us on the head and said go play now. It is the way all Major Companys work, same thing goes for Cars or Computers/Consoles TV’s etc. Purchase right after release you pay 500$, two years later u pay 285$. Cant blame PD for this policy.

It’s simple fact; the products become easier to make and manufacture, and therefore the prices go down. Thats why you can buy a PS2 nowadays NEW for about $50 (USD), which I believe was once $250 – 300 (USD) when it first came out…

Yeah same here. But I have a gut feeling PD might shock all of us with something. I can’t lie, the Aventador and the test track DLC was the most random yet awesome DLC I ever bought, and that was only their 3rd DLC so I wouldn’t be surprised if they announced something epic like the Aston Martin One-77 or the Lamborghini Reventon or sesto elemento. If not then I guess we’ll just have to wait for GT6 prologue and try out other racing games!!! I understand that GT5 is an amazing racing game but its not the ONLY racer. There’s plenty of others out there!

… you got any doubts about PD’s ongoing support for GT5? I mean look at for how long they kept online gaming playable on Prologue and they keep caring for the PSP GT as far as i know, correct me if I’m wrong but I heard of some updates for it no too long ago…
Can we atleast get some 2011 model premiums? One car per manufacturer. By the time GT6 comes out cars will be defying gravity.
Yeah, GT6 will be realsed in 3084 for the PS298 and by then flying will be used by the public, and we’ll have robot maids and dogs with doors that open vertically.

i can understand PD wonts to keep the real GT class cars for GT6 , but just give us som Euro TC like the BMW , Aston , Merced., and the Ferra.

It would be great that if you buy optional wheels that you could under setup go back and change to the original wheels or other optional wheels like if you buy optional transmissions or turbochargers/supercharger.

It would be awesome to see a review or head to head of some cars in GT5 every week. I say this after watching Forza’s Redline Review and it was absolutly brilliant. Check it out on Forza planet. I do not own an xbox or forza. I’m just saying the review was awesome and GTP should do their own version. Pwetty Please Jordan.

Personally, I’d like to see Bathurst, Mustang Coupe Premium RM, 1966 VW RM, Mustang Mach I RM, Maserati Gran Turismo RM, pace car on rolling starts, up-dated Holdens (and Australian Fords too if you must) with race mod options, premium Old Australian Muscle cars (HG, HQ Monaro, Holden Efijy Concept XB Falcon, XC Falcon Cobra, XY GTHO Phase III), events like USA vs Japan or Germany vs Australia or Italy vs England etc. and some of the old tracks back in!
A wider range of options in the course maker would be a good thing, too. Even if only being able to move the track across the map to a place that suits the maker is added, that would be fine, but being able to choose our own length, elevation and placement of corners would be better!
I’d also like a choice of wider rims for “street” cars (the 1966 VW keeps tipping over on standard width rims) and different tyre profiles and pressures!
Photostream is a good idea but the reason we take photos is because we think we are good at doing so, so why keep the photos we take anonymous? Credit where credit is due I say…
Event creater would be useful, you creater a race series then add your mates to the series when the event is coming up your mates get a reminder in your inbox reminding you that the event is coming up..
I think there are 3 minor but crucial updates that PD can give us to improve on an already great gt5. 1- a restoration coupon that undoes the non reversible upgrades, i.e weight reduction, engine upgrade & chassis reinforcement bar. 2- the ability to tune suspension individually for all 4 tires, mainly camber & toe but only for Nascar since all nascar tracks go in 1 direction. 3- an option for tire selection with 2 configurations, or less (which we already have) and only, this way races can be restricted to just 1 tire. But do it in a way where we still have option to choose between or less & only.
Another small update that can be added also is random grid, for rooms that don’t use qualifying but find reverse grid too predictable. so it would go, Fastest first, Slowest first, Reverse grid based on results & Random grid. Everything i have outlined does not fall under the category of DLC. These are small fixes that will improve the game drastically, should be easy for PD to program and send as a patch and will sdrve as an important step for future gran turismo series.

The only thing I find interesting is that the countries that already have photomode ie Asia also have this maintinenace notice posted on there gt page. Not sure what exactly this means but, it’s always fun to wish for updates and additional content.

I defineately wouldnt ask for anymore free content. This game has had more free content then any other game ive everseen. Thank you PD for not ripping us off and actually caring about your game. I hope this would be a new standard for all vid games.

I don’t understand how people think that 3.99 USD is expensive. That is cheap compared to other DLCs for other games that will cost you 19.99 USD for less content than what the GT5 DLCs offer.

People crack me up here. There is nothing “BIG” coming. This game has exhausted all that it is capable of bringing to the table. There will be no premium improved standards, tracks, DLC cars, livery editing, online improvements, or any other content that the GT community has been screaming about since the series was introduced. Once everyone realizes that, life can continue worry free and another more satisfying racing experience can be pursued.

You would have been “almost” right, Toko. Truth be told, I’ve played Forza1,2, and 3. However, I have not played Forza4…because I don’t own an xbox. I’ve played GT5 exclusively since it’s release. I was a fan of GT long before Forza entered the scene. Expressing my disappointments with GT5 shouldn’t be misinterpreted as anything other than expecting my passion for racing fulfilled.

Nope; the January DLC was a month early… it would’ve been released in February if it followed the schedule, and then DLC 4 would’ve been released in April. If this DLC is released in April, then it will be Net-on schedule.
I think I speak for all of us when I sa we are all hoping for plenty of good, free stuff. It would be nice if we could choose a couple items from DLC packs to have for free, and then pay to get the rest of it.
What about safety cars? Or better tire barrier impact?
Photostream will be cool. And I know it’s highly unlikely, but a Livery Editor would be the most awesome thing PD could give us, but if not, how about a few more RM’s?
Yes yes yes, if I can’t edit liveries then DEFFINENTLY some more RM’s. I want to race modify my Ferrari 458, my Audi R8, My Aston Martin, my BMW, maybe even my AMG, my Dodge Viper, and my GT40. These major players in the world of GT racing should deffinently be race modifiable. And it would be fantastic if they had sweet multi-color schemes like the Corvettes do. Like, the 458 could have green, white, and red draped over the car like the Italian flag, as so many of the Ferrari 458s in GT racing have :)
Amac500 has it right, more racing modificatons for more models, the ones he suggestd would be great, I would include the Gallardo and or the Super Veloce/Aventador. Different liveries would be nice :)

PD, first thing please fix the online servers, I’ve been D/C’d so many times recently! and usually in the midst of a long race… it’s getting really frustrating now.
I put a fair bit of effort into organising race events and then when there is finally a good grid size, myself and usually at least one other gets D/C’d.
The connection to the servers used to be better a while ago….
Hope it can be improved.

I had consant connection issues, loading stripes everytime…..new router & ADSL filter and they’ve all disappeared…believe me, was at wits end but although I was convinced it was Polyphony’s issue, I actually believe it was my set up, tell your ISP your routers playing up and they’ll probably send you all new kit.
The servers are 90% fine, stop complaining and sort out the problem that is at your end. Have you updated your router software? Forwarded all necessary ports? You don’t know what I’m talking about so do that first lol
It’s also PSN…. and even in Japan it’s still regular and for my work mates who I play with regularly….
it’s rarely PSN, plug a ethernet cable directly from your modem to your PS3, i don’t think i’ve ever been disconnected from a game where the server was at fault, and this was since day one.
Yea, it is rarely PSN but it does happen. It happened yesterday when I was in BF3.

20-30 cars, and I think the delay can be forgiven. But really, enough cars and/or tracks and/or bug fixes (not features introduced, that we all call bugs *cough* tires *cough*), and I think the wait will’ve been worth it. But seriously, PD should hire a little more staff, if they can pay for 140, they can pay for 200 (DLC revenue, game revenue, ect).

Theres a few important cars and tracks missing too… and I’d like too see a livery editor and a MUCH more advanced track editor… those will increase the replay value the most, and will make it a bit easier to wait for other DLC’s (if more are made).

Kaz did mention he’s thinking about transitioning from GT5 to GT6 this year. I’m very much appreciated that Kaz and his team dedicated and support so much for GT5. As of now GT5 been out for over a year already, I’m (personally) ready to hear some news regarding about GT6. I personally don’t expect anything else big for GT5, since it’s been over a year. It’s awesome that there’s so many players out there that still plays GT5.

All i hope for is some of the classic tracks on gt3/gt4 games. seattle was my favorite track. Also i want some of 80s era mustangs on the game. That will be nice.

I would love to see martinsville or darlington added to the game. A nice technical short track would be a big plus. It sucks that NASCAR is represented in the game by full throttle and just steer ovals.
I can feel that day might be new update, maybe a free Acura NS-X Concept and Porsche enter in the game. Maybe version 3.0. Just pray for that day on the 4th April. And hope 10 to 15 new DLC cars which never been in the game before.

And if my name were Kazunori those are the things to fix and include in a latest update. People want this and if i were that guy i´ll do it.This is like give some confidence to people and to a future game because by now we don´t know what to expect from PD and it is not hurting me at all because i am a fan and i love PD and Kaz but for other kind of people this is a problem and at the end of the day it is for all of us.

Track editor and livery maker are the two things I want more then anything. Track editor first, becaue the game will NEVER get boring. If I design the layout, run offs, the stands, the bridges, etc, that is IDEAL. I also want a few new premium race cars. Couple prototypes, like the Audi R18, one of the OAK racing cars, and the 2011 Peugeot 908, and if GT5 is so tight with Nissian then why not give us the Zytek and Signatech Nissian LMP2 cars. And a couple Le Mans GT cars, like the factory Corvettes, the Luxury racing 458’s, and I really like Aston Martin’s WEC GT car this year.

I have no hopes for DLC, but I do hope that some of the bugs are taken out of the online lobbies. It seems that almost all room hosts have gone from 16 player rooms to 12 player rooms due to error/lag issues with rooms with more players. Nothing is more fun than a 16 player race (assuming everyone races clean : P )

Nope, there are some that look like they’re premium. Yesterday, I was surprised by how the ’00 MX-5/Roadster looked. The fenders don’t have jagged edges. It looks really smooth.
I edited that shot fairly heavily including cleaning up the jaggies.

I have a dream. A dream where GT5 players receive updates and DLC at the same speed in which Forza 4 players receive their DLC. ;)
Then keep dreaming. Turn 10 has about 400 workers for Forza, and PD has about 140 split between GT5 and GT6. Thats why Turn 10 is releasing games every 2-3 years and DLC one a month, and part of why PD took so long to make GT5, and has DLC every two months. If PD gets about 50-100 more workers, your dream may come true.
That’s PDs fault for not hiring more people, I’m pretty sure Polyphony has a bigger budget than Turn10, Having more employees mean that they get paid less but provide a better experience for the customers.
It doesn’t change the fact that PD was never large for the game they’re making. Right after GT4, they didn’t even have half of the people they have now.
Thats the issue; by hiring more people, theres less room for pay, unless the budget and funding/income is raised while working on a game. You hire more workers only AFTER you know you can pay them sufficiently. It isn’t smart to hire without knowing what kind of budget you’re going to have in the future.

If PD were using this theoretical “extra 2 years”, then the production would be going slightly faster; they wouldn’t be designing stuff purely for updates and DLC. There’s some things that are simply just too large or complex to include in an Update or DLC. Plus, right now some of the workforce is working on GT6 now; I’d pretty much guarantee 90-95% of the workforce of PD would be working on GT5 right now if it hadn’t been released yet. Also, don’t forget the earthquake in Japan and the transfer of the company; that would’ve slowed the development.

As has been stated numerous times by other members of the site: it’s very unlikely that the guys making the DLC are the same ones working on the photo stream service.

A game developer doesn’t do every job; theres artists, programmers, server administrators, web developers, and the list goes on. The Web developers and Server admins are most likely the ones working on the Photo stream service… Those people probably aren’t doing as much as the artists and programmers when new tracks and cars are being built, so now the server admins and web devs. get some more heavy work time. Usually the web devs. and server admins are already doing some work; they monitor GT5’s servers and update the GT5 website nearly 24/7. It really isn’t a waist of any dev. time; I’m willing to bet we’re getting some sort of car and/or track DLC, and the other developers have been working on that this whole time.
