“GT5 Room” at Sony’s New NYC PlayStation Lounge

If you’re in New York City, you may want to stop by the Gran Turismo 5 room at Sony’s new PlayStation Lounge, as seen in these pictures via Tom’s Hardware.

It looks cool, but according to reports in our forums, don’t expect much – they’re using the old E3 2010 demo build with a 2-minute time limit (meanwhile, our friends in the Czech Republic are playing the full game).  Regardless, playing GT5 in 3D with a steering wheel is a lot better than playing it while standing up with a controller at Best Buy. You’ll find the PlayStation Lounge in the Sony Building at 550 Madison Avenue.

I suspect Sony are making absolutely sure they can deliver on the release date before setting one this time. To have another release date changed would be too embarrassing/damaging for them. The supplier I’ve preordered with here in NZ has updated their expected release date to Nov 30th. In the meantime my PS3 sits abandoned in the corner – I just can’t bring myself to play anything else until GT5 arrives.

    1. riad

what worries me the most is how late they are leaving this annoucnment. this is GT5 , its something that needs to be marketed to the maximum. so releasing a date just a couple of days b4 we get to buy it with good marketting time would not produce the sales a game like GT5 deserves. i am one of those poeple who not only wants the game to be good but i also want it to sale well, get good reviews etc..

  2. mocheelz

It is very frustrating seeing the level of unprofessionalism of Sony/PD with this GT5 launch. The game is most likely in stock at most retailers already and still no official announcement or anything from Sony. We got shafted not once, but on several occasions already. This is very poor behavior from one of the biggest electronics company in the world.

    1. Rotard12a

The entire reason for the delay was that they couldn’t print the discs.

So no, it’s not in stock anywhere, except MAYBE in a warehouse in France, where the first shipment was apparently headed. You should read the news.

    2. Foxiol

The game will be release in Madrid the day November 24.And could happens 2 things:1- the game will be release this day.or 2- the game will be release December 1st from Europe.
You know…1 day earlier from US. So could be November 30.
But something more…wait just for this week or the other and be patient cause Sony will make official one of this dates…and i repeat both for US (i´m in Europe) November 23 US or November 30.
One retailer here at Spain (and the most important) set Gran Turismo 5 for December 1st and NEVER put dates when they´re not sure. And i trust in those people.
Keep waiting for Sony release but they never cares about nothing.Just his money.

    3. Red_9

Perhaps they’re waiting until they have most, if not all, of their copies printed before announcing a date? It’d be even worse to announce a release date and then not have enough copies for everyone.

    4. Foxiol

Red_9: They can sell the game if a half of their production is shipped for all countries. That means that this is almost done at this time. We have news in all continents that they already have seen copies like : Australia (the first), Czech Republic (they are playing now), Brazil, India, France. And there you have all continents shipped for now. That is a proof of everything.

  3. abigor

Considering this is one of the biggest titles on any format this generation the level of imcompetence displayed by sony is mind boggling. If i had anything at all i knew was goin to make me many millions i would have blanket ads in all the media prepping the general public and building the level of anticipation.

Instead what do get, a missed release date with NO explanation whatsoever, no new release date, no new information or anything whatsoever just silence, this despite videos appearing online showing a lucky few people playing the game already.

Its an insult the way sony and PD have and continue to treat us fans that made them what they are.

    1. ukgtfan

well there has been at least 3 explanations that i have read, so you’re wrong there. Kaz also said that the discs were being pressed, so you are wrong regarding no new information whatsoever. Byt I agree it is getting very silly, and unprofessional to say the least. I’m also worried that the game will be a big disappointment, but that’s just down to my expectations.

    2. CarreraGT

@abigor, I’m not sure why you think it will be a big disappointment (I think a lot of people are resigning to that conclusion simply because we’ve been waiting for so long, which is fair enough I guess).
I have to agree with the lack of professionalism though. I remember the ad campaign (in Australia) running for weeks before GT4 came out, but I haven’t seen a thing for GT5 yet…

  4. Thor

As I look westward out of the window here at work the sun is setting on yet another day. I believe I have checked GTPlanet upwards of 20 times today looking for any new info. And, alas, there has been none. Sigh…

To our dear friends at Sony and Polyphony digital (and, yes, we know you have people on this site reading these comments) what is wrong? Who is making decisions there? Between October 13, 2010 when the announcement was made that the game would be delayed and now, November 11, 2010, no one has an idea when this game will hit retail? I find that very difficult to believe. More so, because of some industrious individuals (read thieves), we all know that at least some, if not all, of the games have been manufactured. We have the video proof that they exist. And, we know it is legitimate because you have spent the last two days chasing down videos all over the internet! It is becoming more and more obvious that there are some people in positions of power at Sony who just do not have a clue how to communicate with your dedicated customers. Sony, you have NO OTHER EXCLUSIVES (other then Move) to sell this holiday season. Seriously, it is time to make a decision.

    1. Nato_777

Sony cocked up with the Move here in New Zealand. There was nowhere near enough stock at release. They practically didn’t stock any single Move controllers only the starter pack. Even the starter packs sold out in 2 days. I didn’t want a starter pack – I’ve already got the camera (and demos off PSN). I preordered a Move controller and couldn’t get one and have now been told there won’t be any available until Jan 2011 sometime… maybe.

  5. Gdog96

my gtplanet keeps working and t5hen suddenly not working, it takes ages to load and then comes up with theis page cannot be displayed, then it eventualy comes back, is anyone else getting this problem?

    1. Nato_777

The site seems to only randomly let me post comments. Sometime I can (like now), other times it keeps telling me to sign in although I already am and I cannot post. Still the best GT5 site though.

  6. mocheelz

C’mon Sony wtf is wrong with you. Where’s our release date already. The game is slowly leaking out all over the place and people already are playing the final version. What’s the damn hold up. At this point I’m expecting most major retailers to have the game in stock already.

  7. Magic Ayrton

To be honest I’m getting fed up with this drip feeding, where the hell is the release date?? can’t trust anyone these days…

    1. kalekyn

+1. Is this normal? I mean, I was feeling certain anxiety and then I found out I was not the only one. But no matter How many we are, the desperation remains and I know a lot of us are not kids anymore.

  8. Super_Colossal

I got a job in the summer so i could buy GT5 later. Let’s just say, I already got laid off from that job and I still don’t know when I’ll have the chance to buy it. Yet some kid in the CR is playing his ass off right now. So that means the game is ready to go. So…what’s Sony doing? Nothing? Just sitting around? Looks like I’ll be borrowing my friend’s copy of Black Ops for longer than I thought…

  9. ukgtfan

Not impressed with the xp and levels neither, I want money and races to win, not levels.. it’s not an R.P.G and I wish the japanese would realise than not everyone wants to level up! should have scraped the “B” mode as well, would have rather had more premium cars than the manager mode. wait til it comes out and the backlash begins…..

  10. Red_9

I know some people have gotten games early through illegitimate means, even though the game itself didn’t release for another two weeks. From my perspective, there’s no reason why we should have to wait any more than two weeks after seeing the first leaked video.

Though admittedly they DO have to make a lot of copies; the amount of preorders is monumental.

  11. ken_b

I sure hope that when Sony dries their eyes from laughing at all the whining and complaining, they decide to surprise us with a Nov 23rd release date announcement..I’m just say’in, that would be nice.

  12. NASCARFAN160

I can’t take it anymore!!! Why can’t they think about people like me who don’t go out often! ONE demo won’t help. >:(

  13. GTracerRens

The only reason to go there for me is to ask them one question: When will the game be released? Everyone on the world knows the game is ready to be played..

  14. GT'ireland

would be nice to go to the GT5 room but as i live in ireland its a tad too far lol,all this and still no confirmed release date.

  15. m0j0

Later and later into the season, and more and more the GT news is more like showing pictures of a hamburger to a starving man..

Ooh look a picture!, but I WANT WHATS ON THE PICTURE!! RAAAhhhh

    1. occasionalracer

Ya so in reality Sony is saying “Eat the damn pictures you dummies”. It just doesn’t make any sense unless in their mind they just want to “surprise” us like a few days before it hits shelves, but that doesn’t make much sense either cause that info will spread anyway. Especially given that most of their games will sell to average people who aren’t dying for it and probably don’t even know it’s coming until they see it stores, it just won’t be a big surprise to those which I would estimate at at least 70%.

  16. Dark-Cloud4

gran tursimo 5 feels like end of the world >.< .. i don't know how to say it in english or even in my langugae but it's near the feeling when you think it's the end of the world XD ….

  17. Sleepy-z

I consider this to be almost torture, glad its not in my city. Last thing I want to do is be teased with that in my neighborhood.

  18. NBH

So copies of the game are complete and they are showing a demo build a few months old? I don’t understand the logic at all. I mean before they were still adding bits and tweaking things but now it’s finished, done, no more tweaking so show us the proper game! It’s like we have gone back in time and are months away from the release.

  19. victor

aghhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. i check to see if there’s a new release date way too often each day. I have to say I was really patient up until now. But seriously, what is up with Sony. When they say they’ll have a release date by October’s end, they should have one by Nov. 10. It is NOT cool any more.

  20. Red_9

Sony is being incredibly ridiculous. They’re opening GT stores and promoting the game left and right, yet they won’t centre on the most important part of the game; the release date! It’s like Sony thinks they’ll get more mileage out of this game if they just keep delaying it while continuously hyping it as the best racing sim ever.

Get it together Sony. You gave us too many promises you didn’t keep; first it was with November 2nd, then you said a new date by October’s end; it’s already November 10th and we’re still grabbing at strings.

    1. chikane

sony sure loves there Demo’s…. and is amazing how they had time to set this event up ?? .. but dont have time to announce a new release day .. that doesn’t take more them 10 minutes .. simply amazing

  21. mocheelz

Its going to be either Nov 23 or Nov 30 where it will be available. Makes the most sense. Busiest shopping day of the year is black Friday which is the day following Thanksgiving. It has to be be released around then.

    1. KilzoneStrife

Realistically speaking, have you ever seen any game miss its launch date, then with that same month release within a 2 week notice thats its coming out? I cant say I wont be angry if it slips into December. Everyday guys posting vids up, yet we’re here stuck playing plorogue.

  22. KilzoneStrife

a lack of release isnt just annoying. Its p1ssing me off now, every damn day Im playing prologue and Sony wants to open a lounge?? Absolutly ridiculous!!!!! In fact,it honestly is a little fcking insane!

    1. Bernd

Sony’s behavior is becoming really ridiculous now. Sadly, most of the vids had to be removed from YT too, except those showing the Cape Ring. Thank you Sony, you lose more than you win with this childish behavior! :-P

    2. George

@ Bernd the problem my friend is that even if it could get delayed again (for example 2-3 more months) all people here would still buy the game…
So Sony is not punished for acting stupid…

    3. GTracerRens

I totally agree with you. I know Sony won’t get punished because of the delay, but still it’s a ridiculous action… :(
I just can’t believe the number of sold copies will rise with this delay or whatever Sony wants to achieve!

    4. CarreraGT

I’m pissed because I traded in prologue to buy F1 2010, thinking that GT5 was coming out two weeks later. How wrong I was. Don’t get me wrong, F1 2010 is a great game but it only just (just) makes the wait bearable

  23. Keyz13

Would Sony release ON black Friday. Or the tues. Before?or the tues. after? Those are the only 3 US possibilities now. Cool. Tell amazon so they can change thier stupid 31 dec. date.

    1. Seamus573

Gamespot are reporting “Nov 24th 2010” as the release date. I really really hope this is true! If so we could get our hands on this masterpiece in less than 2 weeks time!!

    1. Honchie

Hmm, a road trip NYC might be fun. Btw, where is this place? I’ll just “borrow” their copy until mine comes in, fair enough?

    1. Sam__NY

No, the 4th picture. The one with the guy screaming at the screen. In the backdrop there’s a poster in the top right of the screen. On it is the rear tail lights of a Ferrari 360.

  24. AGNT009

They had the balls to open this place KNOWING videos are leaking, they STILL havnt given a release date, and the game isnt in our hands!

Is anyone getting the idea that Sony is so pissed, they are holding the release date, and maybe the game itself back longer, because of the way we are mocking them and reveling in their embarrassment? It doesnt hurt us, it hurts them. Foolish Sony, tricks are for kids.

Now give us the damn game!

    1. robulus

I really honestly don’t think there is anything that sophisticated going on. They’re just a bunch of stupid suits and they’ll announce a release date as soon as their collective clusterf#@k attains the wherewithall to do so.

We’re like a bunch of primary school kids loaded up on red lollies poking a sleepy lizard with a stick.

    2. AGNT009

LOL. Yeah, I wasnt serious. Loaded on red lollies poking a sleeping lizard. That was great man, gave me a good laugh.

  25. robulus

“If you’re in New York City, you may want to stop by the Gran Turismo 5 room at Sony’s new PlayStation Lounge”

…to grab the first Sony rep you see and shake them violently by the collar until they give you a goddam release date.

    1. HugoStiglitz_420

plus the stiffness of the chase cam. why o why? why can’t the chase cam be loose like forza motorsport tree? lol I’m not being serious btw

    2. WHY?

@HugoStiglitz_420 Lol! Dude you confused yourself, me and robulus are two different people, get rid of that crackpipe Grandad!

    3. robulus

@WHY? No no no. It’s very simple. I meant to reply to Hugo here making a sarcastic comment about your posts previously but accidently posted above throwing everything out of context and turning the whole discussion into a kind of “David Lynch” / “Carry On” movie.

      Perfectly simple.

    4. FlareKR

Bank Robbery at the Sony Lounge with 3 bandits and automatic weapons:
“ALL RIGHT, LISTEN UP! THIS IS A STICK-UP, NO ONE WILL GET HURT UNLESS WE GET WHAT WE WANT! IT IS A LARGE REQUEST, AND IF YOU DON’T COMPLY, YOU WILL SUFFER THE CONSEQUENCES! SO WHAT IS OUR REQUEST? Can you kindly give us the release date to Gran Turismo 5 *wink*wink*?”

    5. GTracerRens

I was thinking of a worldwide release… Not a release on a holiday which is only celebrated in the United States or something. I’m sorry, but I neither hope they are going to wait for christmas. This delay is not about the game, but about the money. There is no work in progress anymore, it’s all done and we are waiting… But “this month” sounds great anyway..

    6. GTracerRens

LOL @ FlareKR! :p But still it would be an idea to go there with a lot of people only to ask for a release. Don’t even touch the demo stands, only ask for that releasedate we are waiting for…

  26. Circuit*star

I was there i just came back It was Fun But i really have to say. I hated that force feedback from the steering wheel it sucks. other than that it was a crazy experienced.

    1. Bankai123

Kinda. I went to the grand opening yesterday and asked one of the Sony reps about the release date and his words were “its coming out on a holiday during this month, I can’t get more specific than that, sorry.” Then i asked again and he said “Sorry, i can’t comment any further”.

    2. HugoStiglitz_420

well dude there’s only thanksgiving and memorial day maybe? so I’d be extremely happy eitherway. I’m just confused on what they’re waiting for you know

    3. paytonlow

      Hahahaha…:)

Not to mention Jordan’s “meanwhile, our friends in the Czech Republic are playing the full game”.

      More points for GTP!!

    4. IVKillerVI

      I got $50 that says the 25th.
Come on, it’s a holiday, and the day before black Friday….Couldn’t be better at this point.

    5. therealgriff

@hugo memorial day is in september my friend. veterans day is the 11th of november. lay off the gange…wait what am i saying.

  27. HugoStiglitz_420

seriously how can they still be waiting to announce a release date? I sware they let people get leaked copies just to distract us from the rediculous fact that they still haven’t announced it. It’s just so weird

    1. Sum1s2pid

Aye. It’s difficult to maintain optimism when the powers that be seem to be doing everything they can to undermine it. The game is obviously ready and out there… what’s the hold-up.

    2. HugoStiglitz_420

I’m staying optimistic but having trouble not being surprised everyday they don’t announce it. It could be worse, we could have no idea if it even went gold, got shipped, got stolen and posted on youtube yet lol

    1. FlareKR

Or in Miami: 4 screens with no one playing Madden, and the occasional “Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs” is getting old at Sony Style (and only when I’m there do I plea to put GT5P, Uncharted 2, and FF XIII; coincidentally the store becomes more filled).
      Bring us the Sony Lounge!

  28. Andrew R.

That looks pretty cool. I really thought the grand opening of this would finally yield the release date though. Sony still has everyone guessing. I wonder if Polyphony even knows…
