GT6 Hotfix Addresses Logitech Wheel Force Feedback Issues

Gran Turismo 6

Yesterday’s release of GT6 update 1.12 brought with it some enhanced force-feedback configuration option for steering wheel controllers, allowing users to adjust the torque of the wheel. Unfortunately, Logitech wheel owners quickly noticed this had a negative impact on the G25, G27, and Driving Force Pro, with drastically reduced wheel resistance.

Fortunately, Polyphony Digital have quickly addressed the issue with a quick software hotfix, which will be downloaded automatically the next time you connect the game to PSN.

Logitech users in our community were quick to notice the update, and are discussing the latest hotfix and the new force feedback changes here in our forums.

It seems the hotfix made the feedback different, as follows depending on the particular wheel family as follows:

    (a) Some Thrustmaster users are reporting that it is now feeling “too heavy” even on light settings;
    (b) for Logitech users, the feedback is stronger, but the overall feeling is wrong. It’s difficult to describe, but I’m finding (using my DFP wheel) that the wheel’s feedback is annoyingly shaky / jittery especially on Snow & Dirt surfaces. It did not feel like that before. Changing the torque & sensitivity does not help. Tracks like Toscana and Chamonix now feel really strange. If it was a real car, I would think there was something seriously broken in the steering linkage!

To PD: In GT6’s Options screen I see no setting for me to select a particular wheel type. There is just a big list of all wheels types mixed together and their sub-menus to set particular button configs. I would like to be able to tell GT6 which wheel I am playing with, and also to see confirmation from GT6 options screen to indicate exactly which wheel is currently in use.

PD, In summary: you should allow users to tell GT6 what kind of wheel they have. And depending on whether it’s a Thrustmaster or Logitech family device, then the game should implement whatever codebase works best. eg if a Logitech, then activate your original pre-1.12 codebase, and if the Thrustmaster is selected then use whatever works best for that type of wheel.

Come on, that really should not be too difficult to patch in.

  2. mmdct

PD… PUT IT BACK THE WAY IT WAS BEFORE 1.12. We didn’t have a firestorm of comments before then and us Logitech players seemed pretty happy. I know I was. Then, take your time and get it right before patching again.

    1. wahwah

Exactly right…at the very least provide an option to go back to pre 1.12 FFB status, or for those who are enjoying the new approach, they can go with the way it is now, as PD continue to work on it. A classic case of breaking something while trying to fix something that wasn’t broken.

    2. Johnnypenso

GT has the worst FFB of any game I’ve ever played. It’s “dead” even compared to something like Grid Autosport. It’s a “simcade” game but the FFB was excellent and you always knew what was happening with the car. You could really feel the curbs, feel the back end breaking loose, even the cobblestones on those kinds of streets. The GT series is in need of some serious work in the FFB department, and this update was a step in that direction. They just didn’t execute the idea well and the lack of adjustment sliders will always be a weakness to getting this right.

  3. SpawnBlack

Just finished my Hot Hatch championship with my Logitech DFGT and the characteristics of the wheel against the car was absolutely crap. The more I turned the wheel the more understeer I got from the car and less resistance from the Wheel. If this is not fixed by next Friday or if PD never fix it, then I will not be playing GT6 anymore. And I will not go out and buy any of the new wheels to please them just so they can have my money to only mess things up again in the future. I am massively disappointed with game with all the silly little extras that keep being added. I have been playing Gran Turismo since 1996 and have put up with all the nonsense they have come up with, but this is the last straw for me. I’m too old for this Sh*t and too tired to complain anymore because it seems like all of our concerns just fall on deaf ears. Please sort it out Polyphony Digital or put 100% complete focus into GT7 on the PS4 and stop giving hardcore race fans of the GT franchise the run around.

    1. Leggacy

If you’re understeering the or locking the front wheels the wheel will go light, the wheels aren’t gripping. Don’t brake while turning and use less steering angle?

    2. SpawnBlack

You don’t understand. The whole dynamic of how it used to be has changed completely. I’m not locking the front wheels and as I’m braking I’m not locking the wheels when turning. There is no longer any feel Stiffness or feedback through the wheel itself. The way it is now I would have to change the suspension set up of all my cars. I have been using this wheel since GT5 Prologue and that even had more FFB than GT6 does since this last update. I can’t say anymore than I already have or explain it to you unless you have the same wheel and then you would understand. I like to have the FFB strength high so I get maximum feel and feedback from the car through the Wheel. It’s not there anymore.

  4. Augdogg21

    DFGT USERS:
Since the update I’ve driven a few tracks a dozen times. At first it was sort of jarring as my FFB would vibrate on what I’m assuming is the road. I felt this to be unrealistic and annoying.

The 3 different settings on quick menu:
Someone please explain the differences between them to me so I can make concise adjustments? Thanks

    1. Leggacy

      I think this is right..

There are three settings but the first is controler sensitivity, its nothing to do with the feedback, it’s for pad players. Ignore this setting.

The max tourqe is setting how strong the maximum force the wheel will produce.

The sensitivity is setting how much of the effect is represented within the tourqe range.

You don’t want to set anything all the way to 10 as it will reduce the feel of the dynamics, the larger forces will mask the more subtle ones. Think of it like teenage boys with stereos, they like the bass and treble waaaay up and it ends up distorting you loose the bits in the middle and it all becomes a bit muddy. It’s the same with force feedback if the settings are too high you’ll miss some of it. You want detail not dramatics.

I’ve got a T500 and Ive got the settings at 3 tourqe
      5 sensitivity
      And it feels pretty good.

  5. jnmjeeper

Is the FFB issue for G27 and t500rs wheel users even going to be addressed?

Seems like PD feels they corrected any problems with the hot fix, and are satisfied.

Is PD’s position enjoy your new FFB, your welcome? Or are they concerned that some customers are dissatisfied?

Maybe the feedback dynamics are better, but on my G27 (after hot fix), the sensations are so light that it’s moot. I’m just not enjoying GT6 at all anymore!

    1. SolidSnake7735

I may be of the few that was satisfied with the FFB update. Now with the hotfix it feels worse.

How so? Well, before the updatethings were fine but rumble strips felt numb. After the update i could actually feel the individual bumps on them. And at the Nordschleife felt as brutal as i imagine it would in real life. Made me actualy care to avoid the kerbs.

Now after the hotfix it’as back to silly little vibrations when gping over them. *sigh*

    2. Martin_320nm

With the torque force setting on 10 any detail of the rumble strips is sort of ‘buried’ because post-hotfix the torque on my Logitech DFP wheel is much stronger than pre-hotfix. However, if you reduce the torque to about 3, all the detail and ‘chatter’ is there from the rumble strips etc. (And the overall ‘force’ is good).
      Have you tried that?

  6. WheelmanSteve

Sort of stayed out of this, but the post 1.12 FFB update was awesome. I struggled mightily on Sierra, even allowing for the stupid car choices- my G25 was just plain numb. After the hotfix I am delighted- my overall sense of where the car is and where I want to put it has improved dramatically- better than pre 1.12 even. This, much more than any content updates will get me playing again. Now if PD would just give me a series 2 left-hand-drive Mazda 3s…

  7. mitchcarino

My T500rs feels like a g27. It feels as though it has gears. It woobles even when the car is still. Ridiculous. Any sugestions on how to get it back like it was before the patch?

  8. mmdct

I expect the smart programmers at PD to satisfy Logitech AND Thrustmaster users, not either-or, but BOTH. ANALOGY – I feel like my supercar on racing tires got downgraded to comfort soft. Sure, I can eventually get used to it, but I don’t want to!!! I’m one of those people who wants to fight the wheel, and based on the feedback, there’s lots of us.

    1. Johnnypenso

I have almost no time for gaming lately so I haven’t tried it yet but it sounds like a step in the right direction. However they were 10 steps behind Assetto Corsa before the update, 9 more to go…lol.

  9. infamousphil

Just a thought guys. Glad to here some your wheel issues have been addressed. I don’t use the cheap (non supported) Logitec wheel I have except for extreme events for FGT and X cars. It really doesn’t help but least my thumbs get a break from the tortuous demands of these cars.

After seeing what I suppose is PD’s standard driving rig, I cain’t help but think they have no interest in beta testing all wheels used for GT. Maybe it’s a way they keep their patronage involved. At first it sounds like a decent way of doing things but then realize I’m not online for extended periods of time. That said PD does need to get off that public beta testing kick. They are a gaming giant and need to act as one.

Oh snap! Hope this doesn’t mean that I’ll have to begin paying a monthly premium for online racing ;)

  10. ENGYPT

Well, yesterday after the ffb hot fix upgrade, the FFB of my T500 became to hard, even in the minimum value. I have to check again today. Anyone with the same problem with T500?

    1. poumpoum

I have the exact same problem with my T500RS :(
Even FFMT@1 and FFS@1 the wheel is REALLY TOO heavy. If I use power steering on or off it doesn’t change anything.

  11. pasigiri

“Unfortunately, Logitech wheel owners quickly noticed this had a negative impact on the G25, G27, and Driving Force Pro, with drastically reduced wheel resistance.”

This was also the case with my CSR wheel.

  12. ynot

Let me just throw this out there. If you went out today and bought a different brand wheel or different model from the same manufacturer would it not feel different and you would have to take some time to learn your new wheel feel and setting. That was the same thing here. I liked my DFGT the way it was before. I was not happy with the 1.12 update changes to the FFB. However, just because it was different does not mean it was worse. I was willing to give it a few weeks to get used to it. It might have been better once you got used to it. What I did like about it was you could feel wheel chatter and now I do not notice it anymore since the hot fix but it has only been one night. I think all they needed to do was make the power scale larger. Making 10 more strong for those who wanted the same feel as before or an option button to choose the original mode, or the new adjustable one. Having a second adjustment should have been better. Just my thoughts. Happy racing everyone.

    1. Johnnypenso

Perhaps with GT7 PD will move towards more “simlike” wheel adjustments. PC sims allow you to adjust for a number of things like kerb feel, road feel, slippage, overall weight, centre spring, steering sensitivity, rotation etc etc etc. They also allow you to create profiles to save multiple combinations.
As has been often said by me and others (@VBR!) options, options, options. Give us the tools, explain how they work, and we’ll figure it out.

  13. gigio79

Yes, they fixed the problem with logitech wheels. What I do not undertsand is the procedure they have. When they prepare an update they should test it, if they are changing something on the FBB wheels , MUST test that update on ALL the main wheels used by customers before putting online. In the poliphony tests they use thrustmaster, fanatec and logitech wheels, is unaccettable that after an update people can’t play due to a mistake. I hope that does not happen anymore.

  14. Pete05

When will PD get it through their thick skulls that they need to check for & iron out any bugs before releasing an update? It’s not rocket science to do some homework people.

Thankfully, this lot don’t sell cars. You might find the wheels overtaking the car or the brakes fail before you get home!

  15. jnmjeeper

Yo PD, BTW, Thanks for reminding me how fun the Need For Speed NFS games can be. That’s what I’ll be playing until you get Force Feed Back FFB on the Logitech wheels figured out.

  16. jnmjeeper

Two days ago my G27 wheel had resistance. I felt like I was fighting it. That is how I want to play, and why I paid hundreds of dollars to do so. Now… it’s gone.

That fast, an update/hot fix later, and I’m not interested in playing anymore. Fair?

  17. MARcFuLLa

Do you guys drive buses or tractors in real life? LoL
Cant understand how come someone wants even more weight to the wheel.
The FFB effects never has been so communicative in GT life

    1. mtzmueller

Let’s be realistic, this update just messed up wit the ffb of Logitech wheels, the guys saying that this is perfect they clearly or either have very week arms or they do not drive cars in real life, it feels as if I was driving on snow, or as if my senses were numbed, I play with a G27, I absolutely love GT6, but the possibility of staying with this ffb for the rest of GT6’s life would totally screw with my enjoyment of the game, I really appreciate the efforts of PD to try to improve the game, but they just messed up with the ffb this time, it’s amazing that a multi million dollar company makes mistakes like this and that it relies so much on the feedback of customers to fix them. PD, this is my feedback, if u give me the in game option of having the FFB as it was pre 1.12 it would be perfect! Thank you!

  18. mmdct

PD… better but not enough ffb. Regardless of what the GT 6 experts say, many of us want more and it can be done. Remember, we are paying customers and free enterprise repeatedly proves if you can’t give us what we want, someone else will. The folks at PROJECT CARS are likely salivating at the opportunity to snag a bunch of dissatisfied GT 6 players. I’m one of them, so please give me more ffb so I won’t want to switch.

    1. sayba2th

Why not add project cars in addition to GT6 and enjoy the best of both worlds? I did that with Forza 4 and I got the things I wanted GT6 but weren’t there. Now that project cars is across all platforms it would be a no brainer. I know that I will be doing this as I will never stop playing GT period but sometimes it isn’t enough.

    2. 0r3n

Arent you going to have the same problem with Project Cars. Is there now going to be support for G27 on PS4 project cars.. ?
That being said… the steering actually feels more responsive its just a LOT weaker…still needs tweaking

    3. Johnnypenso

Logitech wheels won’t work with the PS4 at this point, but if you get the game on PC every wheel works. The G27 on Assetto Corsa is completely different to the way it felt on GT6 pre-1.12, in a good way. The potential is there for both wheel weight and great feedback with the G27 and DFGT, PD just hasn’t figured it out yet. Looks like they are trying to figure it out, just stumbling along the way.

  19. Johnnypenso

Communication, PD’s weak suit. It’s shameful that in this day and age of easily producing and uploading videos to the internet to quickly connect with fans around the world, that we don’t have a PD rep on YouTube explaining the new wheel settings and taking us through some examples and describing what we should be feeling and why the update was done.

I love that they are working on the FFB, it’s a real weak point in the GT series, but for God’s sake PD it’s 2014, find the internet and make some proper use of it and stop leaving your fans guessing at every little thing!!

    1. sayba2th

Valid point JP, we may not always see eye to eye but you are right on the money with this. Even if there was a blog put on pitstop advising of what you have said would be better than the trial by error method.

    1. Mtla1984

My fanatic wheel is still strange, we are at the beginning of an online series and all the prac and setup was for naught. Now I can’t keep the car on the limit for as long as I simply can’t feel where it is… (1.12 bc was better IMO) hopefully will all return in the next few days…. Ha ha ha…..

  20. Lambob

It’s enough that no one except for a few aliens, understand the LSD , Initial Torque, sensitivity, etc in this game, now we have to explain Torque in the steering settings, oh lord me.

  21. SpawnBlack

On the DFGT it feels a little stiffer but still nothing like it was the day before the update. and the Quick Race. I was able to have two races in 1 hour. Was disconnected 4 times and countdown timer keeps going up as the game is trying to load people in and failing.

I am really disappointed with with game now to which I think the plot has been lost. I also don’t appreciate having my posts deleted as I have a right to my opinion as I have paid for a game and service and am not getting it. I hope that all issues will be fixed as soon as possible, but if not I will no linger play GT6 until GT7 is out on the PS4. By then they will have taken their time to see to it that all is as it should be. I still think GT is the best driving game on any console to date but these issues are not helping. Roll on GT7 on PS4.

    1. sayba2th

The posts deleted must have violated the AUP, the mods on GTP I find to be fairly lenient with some of the posts I see. Yes you are entitled to have your say but if it was in violation then they have every right to remove a post and yes indeed roll on GT7!

  22. TomBrady

I’m noticing people keep saying “10 still feels like 3 before 1.12” or something like that.

That’s because FFB on 10 pre-1.12 IS NOT THE SAME THING AS Torque- 10, Center- 10 post patch.

Put center on 10, then put torque on 1. Either you can leave torque at 1, or increase it little by little til you find what you like but simply putting both on 10 is not going to be the same as it was because it adds too much damper

    1. skazz

You’ve got it the wrong way round: at least on my T500RS “Max torque” is the gain of the real FFB Forces and “sensitivity” is the spring/damper.

On a belt drive wheel, set sensitivity to 1 and Max torque up as high as needed (T500 only needs 3-5, any more is ferocious).
I guess the G25 or DFGT Could use a small amount of sensitivity to give some wheel weight and smoothing, but I’d advise trying no more than 2-3 if it reacts anything like the T500…. Just enough to give a bit of weight, not to overpower the real forces.

    2. SpawnBlack

I’ve seen a lot worse than what I had put up. I guess being honest about what I have been playing for the past 16 years seems to have little validity compared to those who are just playing this game just to pass the time and ruin others races. I’m very outspoken and they know this already.

  23. MLRSparco

Would be nice to see a fix for the customizable transmission on standard cars so that it works with the shifter on the G27.

    1. Leggacy

It was probably going to die anyway all things do.

Anyway death by gt6 is better than dying from some crappy disease of being eaten by a shark, with fikin laser beams…… Actually that sounds kind a cool :-]

  24. SmellyWallrus

The wheel is still far too light, on torque 10, it feels like 1 before 1.12.

There’s people who want very light and others with rip your arms off heavy. PD need to think harder on this.

    1. TomBrady

That’s because the torque control isn’t what you think it is mate. It’s a damper or spring effect, which actually will reduce what you feel. Damper typically makes it feel as if you’re turning the wheel through water.

Set the torque to 1, and progressively increase it until you find a setting you like.

    2. Isho

TomBrady, the problem was that the torque felt like it was on 1 even when you put it to 10. Thats what they fixed. So you telling him to put it to 1 is literally not going to change a single bit…

  25. monsterGAUZ

It is still way way way too low. WAY too low. Settings on 10 feels like 3 before the update. Please do something PD

    1. TomBrady

Turn center sensitivity to 10, and torque to 1. Increase the torque settings 1 at a time until you find something you like, or just leave it at 1.

the problem is people like you assume putting them both at 10 is supposed to replicate FFB 10 before 1.12. That isn’t the case at all because torque is actually a damper effect. Too much and it will take away your feel for the FFB

    2. Isho

No. Putting the torque back to 1 isnt going to make it feel any more closer to 1.12 lmao. They increased the resistance but its still too light and you could compare it to 4-5 FFB pre update.

    1. MARcFuLLa

The great star of this update for sure is the FFB! Even more than Sahara!

Thx PD!! Please, do not hear the complaints and keep the FFB in this right direction!

PS: G27 user here saying this!
