Jaguar XJ220 and Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo Coming to Gran Turismo 7 This Week

Gran Turismo series creator Kazunori Yamauchi has published his traditional pre-update teaser image showing the vehicle content players can expect to come to Gran Turismo 7 this month, with four new cars confirmed including a returning 90s supercar.

We already knew the identities of two of the four cars and the fact the update would be landing this Thursday, April 27, courtesy of earlier messaging. That means that, for half of the image at least, there’s no surprises.

However the remaining contents, if any, and what they would be has remained a mystery until Yamauchi’s regular “silhouette” post earlier today, showing the cars in heavily darkened conditions.

Fortunately both of the other vehicles cut rather distinctive shapes and aren’t particularly difficult to work out, with a car returning to the series after skipping out Gran Turismo Sport and an all-new race car.

The first of those is the Jaguar XJ220, which we spotted being shown — as an interior model — to journalists in Japan back in December 2022. It’s a special piece of automotive history, briefly being the fastest production road car in the world before the McLaren F1 happened, and a car GT fans have been calling out for a return to the series.

Between that and the known quantities at the bottom is the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo — with the “AMG” branding on the rear wing a giveaway if the unique shape wasn’t quite enough. This is an updated version of Mercedes’ race car, first introduced in 2019, although it’s not clear from the image alone what year or team will be represented on the vehicle.

Of course the remaining two vehicles are the 2023 Super Formula SF23, constructed by Dallara but likely to slot into the “Super Formula” marque in the game. We’ve known about these cars, one with the Honda engine and the other with the Toyota engine, for some time now, with their April arrival confirmed a month back.

It’s set to be a relatively inexpensive month in terms of in-game credits. The SF23 is likely to cost a million credits per car, in line with the SF19, and the Mercedes around 450,000cr to match the rest of the Gr3 category. We’d expect the XJ220 to reflect its real-world prices of low-to-mid six figures and appear in the Legends Cars dealer.

As for other update contents, we’ll have to wait and see. We’re not expecting a new circuit this time round, as the 1.31 March update added two new Nurburgring variants, but there may be other new items such as new race events, new Menu/Extra Menu books, and new engine swaps.

The update will arrive during the 0600-0800 UTC server maintenance window on April 27. You won’t be able to play or save the game once the servers go offline, until you have downloaded and installed the update.
