Gran Turismo 7 Virtual Card Trading Game Announced for Germany, With In-Game Credits and GT Merchandise Rewards

PlayStation’s German media channels have announced a virtual card trading game for Gran Turismo 7, with rewards ranging from GT7 credits up to a Logitech G923 racing wheel.

Officially known as the “Gran Turismo 7 Challenge Hub“, the site has actually been in operation in a prototype form since April but not widely publicized before now. Indeed it’s still only promoted on German-language PlayStation media channels — and the site itself only caters for the Germanophonic audience.

The premise of the hub is relatively simple. Players must acquire “Speed Points”, which they can trade for Car Packs containing 5, 12, or 20 cards representing vehicles in Gran Turismo 7.

There’s several different ways to earn Speed Points, both on the site and in the game itself. Every day you can play a short “trump” card game, guessing which of two cars has a better value for a certain statistic, or play a quiz — which sometimes throws up cars not even in GT7

You’ll also be rewarded with Speed Points for logging in, for watching videos, and for enabling push notifications. In addition, PlayStation’s social media channels will publish bonus codes with Speed Point rewards.

In-game challenges include both solo and community tasks. You may have to drive a certain distance in GT7, or stay online, or perform other tasks like completing a Sport Mode race with the Clean Race bonus.

Pass the milestone in the solo task and you’ll earn the reward, while the community task gives rewards only to the highest-rated players for each given collective challenge.

You can redeem the Speed Points for Car Packs at Bronze, Silver, and Gold tiers, which are available for 1000, 2000, and 3000 SP respectively. Each contains a different numbers of cars, but also has progressively higher probabilities of containing “rare” car cards too.

Duplicate cards can be traded to other players, while it also looks like players can upload their own in-game designs, liveries and decals to create special “community” cars too. Amassing Speed Points and car cards also increases your player level, which in turn increases your speed points further.

In addition to the car packs, there are virtual and physical rewards which you can buy with Speed Points. That includes 100,000cr for GT7, at 10,000 SP, and special t-shirts, pens, drinks flasks — and even Gran Turismo 7 25th Anniversary Edition for 200,000 SP.

You can also save up your SP and buy tickets for sweepstakes. These are entries into a prize draw for other items, with the site currently listing The Last of Us Part 1 for PS5, a gray camo DualSense controller, and a Logitech G923 wheel. Players are limited to one or two tickets in these sweepstakes.

Although the site is entirely in German, there doesn’t appear to be any particular geographical barrier to entry — we’ve successfully logged in with US, UK, and Japan-based PlayStation accounts.

In-game activity on these accounts results in appropriate Speed Point rewards on the site. However you won’t be able to claim any physical items you buy through the hub unless you are within the Austria/Germany/Switzerland region served by PlayStation DACH.

Since the quiet launch in April, the site has only been available in German, and only the German social channels — including the German-language PlayStation Blog — are promoting it right now. Bonus SP codes are also only available through these channels.

It therefore remains to be seen if PlayStation will be expanding this game into other regions. In the meantime, if you can get by in German, have fun and stick to the virtual rewards.
