After a break of nearly two months, ranked online competition will return to Gran Turismo 7 on December 28 with the 2022-23 Online Exhibition Series.
Aside from a special event marking the World Finals in early December, players have only had Daily Races to run in GT7’s multiplayer Sport Mode since October. That was the last time the game hosted the official championship, with the final rounds of the Gran Turismo World Series 2022.
The official series starts up again on December 28, so you can put the Driver Rating points you’ve been building up to good use in earning championship points once again.
At present, Polyphony Digital hasn’t shared a full event calendar for the new series. Given the established pattern to date, we’re expecting both the Nations Cup and Manufacturers Cup to be part of the event, and for 5-10 rounds running on alternating schedules both mid-week and at the weekend.
The most recent 1.27 update to the game has seen a small number of changes to the car Balance of Performance calculations, though the full set of changes have yet to be announced and we won’t know the implications for a while. Hopefully though they will, in conjunction with tire wear settings, prevent the Gr.4 events from being an AWD-fest as is the case with the Daily Races.
As it’s going to be an exhibition series, it’s not likely that the event will have any particular official standing. However we’ve previously seen players who do well in the exhibition and pre-season events invited to live events, and with plans to expand the Gran Turismo World Series back to multiple in-person tournaments this year it would be wise to treat it as if it does have something riding on it.
We’ll bring you more information, including the event calendar, when it’s available.
