The next game update for Gran Turismo 7 will be available this coming Wednesday, April 13, according to an announcement on the game’s official website.
Although the post describes server maintenance, it contains the new language used by Polyphony Digital to signify that an update will arrive at the same time, referring to the offline period as “game update maintenance”. That specific phrase has appeared in every announcement preceding a game update so far in GT7’s life.
It comes less than a week after the first major update to GT7, which saw a general recalculation of the game’s economy — particularly with regard to earning potential — as well as increasing the number of cars available to players at any one time.
April is set to be a busy time for GT7 updates. In a special message to fans following some widespread dissatisfaction in March, GT series creator Kazunori Yamauchi laid out a short-term roadmap for the game which included “a few updates” scheduled before the end of April.
Given the generally weekly nature of game updates, we’d expect that to mean three or four updates across the month, of which the April 13 entry will be the second.
At the moment we don’t have any specific information on what this week’s update will bring, however it’s a distinct possibility that it could be the first content update.
Within his message, Yamauchi also stated that these April updates would “add new cars and tracks”, although this was later modified to “course layouts”, referring to new courses at locations that are already in the title.
That means we’ll see the first new content added to GT7 this month, and it could be part of this update — though we’ll have to wait and see if Yamauchi posts his traditional vehicle silhouette or single corner circuit teasers.
The maintenance period itself runs for an hour and starts at 0500 UTC, during which time players will be unable to access the overwhelming majority of GT7. We’d expect the update to become available during this window.
