Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.26 Preview: Road Atlanta, Ford Sierra RS500, & Car Selling

With the next update for Gran Turismo 7 scheduled for Thursday, November 24, the official game website has revealed the new content players will be able to dig into with its usual pre-update post.

It confirms the identities of the cars coming to the game — for which we’d already taken some fairly solid guesses — as well as the surprise new circuit: Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. A long, long-awaited feature will also be making its debut.

As usual, the post and video you’ll see below only relate to the update’s new content. We’ll have to wait until the update lands to discover any other new features, although we do already know that there’s a whole host of things coming along to celebrate both this weekend’s Gran Turismo World Final and the series’ 25th Anniversary on December 23.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.26 New Track

A new track is always the biggest news, and this month’s is an absolute cracker: Road Atlanta.

The circuit in Georgia, USA, sits close to Lake Lanier — one of the filming locations for Netflix’s Ozark standing in for the Lake of the Ozarks — in the state’s hilly northeast. Working with the topography, the 12-corner circuit has some impressive elevation changes and challenging curves.

Once owned by automotive legend Don Panoz, the circuit has hosted top level events in Can-Am, Trans-Am, Formula 5000, and even NASCAR, but it’s perhaps most famous as the home of Panoz’s Petit Le Mans.

This ten-hour endurance race (originally 1,000 miles) is closely based on the rules of Le Mans itself, and sees some of the highest-performance closed-wheel cars competing for the title.

Road Atlanta’s inclusion means that all three of GT7’s new real-world circuit locations — Daytona, Watkins Glen, and Road Atlanta — are North American circuits that host top-tier IMSA races.

The preview doesn’t reveal if the different layouts available at the circuit, but images suggest that it will have weather changes as well as day/night cycle.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.26 New Cars

Along with the new circuit we have official confirmation of the three new cars coming the Gran Turismo 7 too.

First on the list is the classic Nissan Silvia (S14) Ks Aero 1996, a car that’s been in Gran Turismo (other than minor titles and GT Sport) as long as there’s been a Gran Turismo.

It’s the top-line model of the S14 generation, sporting the 208hp version of the SR20DET and — as the “aero” name suggests — a few aerodynamic additions above the base model. We’re likely to see the car enter the Used Car dealer rotation, though it should be available as a “Hot” addition when the update arrives.

Another classic, but probably one heading into the Legends Car dealer, is the Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500. This limited-run model — 500 cars only — was a homologation special, converted by Aston Martin and Tickford from the original RS Cosworth.

Along with sporting another 20hp from the upgraded engine, the car was the basis of an extremely successful Group A racing car which, among other things, won touring car championships in the United Kingdom (BTCC), Australia (ATCC), and Germany (DTM), as well as the Bathurst 1000. Twice.

Finally there’s a modern performance car, coming in the shape of BMW’s M2 Competition. This coupe is based on the 1 Series hatchback sports the BMW S55 engine, producing 40hp more than the already potent, N55-powered, 365hp M2. We’re expecting it to slot into Brand Central.

In addition there’s also a Gran Turismo Red Bull X2019 25th Anniversary Special Edition, available for participating in any of the special 25th Anniversary events. It’s not clear if this is a separate car, a livery, or an unlogged car like the Dior De Tomaso.

Gran Turismo 7 Update 1.26 New Features

In addition to all of the above, 1.26 will see the debut of something fans have been calling for since Gran Turismo 7 launched: sellable cars.

A post on the PlayStation Blog for the update confirms that players will “be able to sell cars within their personal garage once the GT Café Menus are completed”. Of course we don’t yet know how that feature will function, but it will likely come as great news to players who have 412 Honda NSX Gr.B cars for… some reason.

Two new collections of Scapes will also be added in the update, with ten locations at the new Road Atlanta circuit and a set of 26 locations called “Illuminations”. This appears to be themed around places with decorative lighting.

We don’t yet know what other features the update will add but this will likely be revealed in the patch notes after the update becomes available.

A server maintenance period will take the game offline from 0600-0800 on Thursday November 24, during which time players will start to be able to download the update. However you won’t be able to log in and play with the new content until the maintenance period ends and you have updated the game.
