The official announcement for the upcoming Gran Turismo 7 1.27 update has been posted, confirming the five cars that players will be able to get to grips with from December 15.
That is, as expected, the arrival date for the update, with the server maintenance announced for 0600-0800 UTC on Thursday December 15. The update will be available for download and installation during this time, but not accessible until the server maintenance ends.
Today’s trailer suggests that, as far as content is concerned, it’s a car-only update with no additional new circuits or circuit layouts contained within the rather festive 30-second clip. As usual the trailer and announcement only focus on content, with new features and other changes under wraps until the update lands and the patch notes go live.
As it turns out, we were 100% accurate with our guesses of the five-car pack following the “silhouette” teaser posted by Kazunori Yamauchi over the weekend.
Naturally the teaser puts the Ferrari Vision Gran Turismo front and center. This first Vision car from the famous Italian brand was uncovered right before our eyes at the Gran Turismo World Final in Monaco last month, but not everyone will be able to drive it right away.
That’s because “early access” will only be granted to those players who correctly answered the fourth and final “Viewer’s Gift Campaign” question in the week following the Nations Cup final. It will be delivered to those players for free, while everyone else will have to wait to buy the car when it appears in Brand Central on December 23 — Gran Turismo’s 25th anniversary.
The VGT bears design nods to several older Ferrari models, such as the 330 P4 and Modulo concept car, and sports an electrically assisted 1,350hp version of Ferrari’s newest V6 engine as found in the 296 GTB and 499P race car.
Alongside the new Ferrari there’s three new-to-series performance models which all sit amongst the most highly requested vehicles in the community.
Bugatti’s Chiron, once the fastest car on the planet, will be part of the update in its standard form. Arguably a long-overdue car, given that the Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo — revealed exclusively for GT Sport (and subsequently GT7) in 2015 — previewed the Chiron, players will finally be able to drive the 1,500hp, 261mph, ultra-luxurious grand tourer.
The C8-generation Chevrolet Corvette, the first full-production mid-engined Corvette, also makes its debut in this update in Stingray form. Sporting a 6.2-liter, 490hp V8, the transition to a mid-mounted engine has totally changed the character of America’s sports car, and players will be able to benchmark it with its C2, C3, C4, C6, and C7-generation predecessors.
Lastly there’s the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm. With the Quadrifoglio model already producing nearly twice the power of any other car in the range, courtesy of a Ferrari-developed 2.9-liter twin-turbo V6, it’s hard to imagine needing anything more. However Alfa turned the engine up even further and put the car on an extensive diet — even removing the rear seats for the GTAm model. It’s one of the fastest four-doors around.
There’s also the return of a firm fan favorite, with the Toyota Celica ST205 GT-Four rally car. This famous but also highly controversial machine — the center of a cheating scandal in the World Rally Championship — has been ever-present in the GT series since 2001’s Gran Turismo 3, but was surprisingly absent from GT Sport.
Along with the vehicle content there’ll be a new set of 40 Scapes locations based in Norway, but for now everything else about the update is unknown.
