The next Gran Turismo 7 update, which we’re tentatively called v1.35, looks to be coming this Thursday, June 29, according to a new in-game notification.
Accompanied by announcements on the official game website, the notification is of the usual, off-schedule server maintenance that goes along with game updates. Although this specific notification lacks the “game update maintenance” language, this doesn’t always apply.
However the maintenance period does cover the usual date and time that we’d expect: 0600-0800 UTC on the final Thursday of a month. In this case that’s this coming Thursday, June 29.
We do already have some idea of what to expect from the update courtesy of series creator Kazunori Yamauchi’s unusually early “silhouette” Tweet posted on Friday.
The Tweet revealed that there would be at least three cars coming; we have previously seen additional variants of a car added to the game not included in these silhouettes, although most likely it will be precisely three.
Among them is one of the most potent road cars ever made, the Aston Martin Valkyrie. This was originally conceived of as a Le Mans Hypercar competitor under an early draft of the new rules, but while the car — co-developed with Red Bull — continued, the racing program was abandoned.
It’s powered by a naturally aspirated, 6.5-liter Cosworth V12, good for 1,100hp, and should become the highest-performance road car in the game as standard. We’re also not expecting it to be cheap, so save up a few million…
Accompanying it will be two classic Japanese rally rivals returning from older Gran Turismo games, with the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution III and the facelifted GD-generation Subaru Impreza WRX STi (though we wouldn’t rule out a five-door GG, as the rear is unclear).
While we only know about the cars there’s likely to be more in this update too, although we won’t find out until nearer the time — usually through a promotional video 18 hours before the update arrives.
That might include a new circuit or circuit layout, with the last new content of this type coming back in March with the new variants of the Nurburgring venue.
We’re also expecting new races, and new Extra Menu Books in the GT Cafe, and it’s likely we’ll see more new engines for the recently reworked engine swap function. There may be other new features too.
Whatever comes, you’ll need to make sure your progress is saved before the servers go offline at 0600 UTC on Thursday June 29, as you will not be able to access the game again until the update is installed and the servers return.
