A short-notice update for Gran Turismo 7 has been deployed, with a very singular focus on an issue that has been affecting some players in Sport Mode since the 1.38 update last month.
Unsurprisingly marked as v1.39, the update is on the smaller side and comes in at just under 400MB on PlayStation 5 — likely taking longer to install than to download.
There is just one item flagged in the patch notes, and it relates to a curious issue in the ranked online multiplayer Daily Races and, for some, the previous round of the Exhibition Series in the World Series section of Sport Mode.
The bug manifested as, essentially, a never-ending wait for the race to start, most commonly between the “warm-up” part of the event and any timed on-track session, with the game freezing on the race cover screen.
It was an issue that would appear seemingly at random, affecting some players but not others and not always preventing races from occurring — with Daily Race A apparently unaffected.
However it had been of increasing community concern over the past two weeks, particularly with another round of the Manufacturers Cup Exhibition Series coming up this weekend.
The 1.39 update is aimed at rectifying the issue, with the only item in the patch notes stating that this is the issue fixed — and the item has disappeared from the Known Issues post on the game website.
Players who have been affected by this bug will have seen their Sport Mode ratings plummet over the past couple of weeks too.
Quitting the game in order to resolve the freeze will result in a loss of Sportsmanship Rating (SR), and losing sufficient SR will also result in a “reset” of Driver Rating (DR). Depending on how many races were attempted and failed, that could result in even a high DR reaching rock bottom.
There’s been no comment from Polyphony Digital yet on whether this is something that will be addressed — such as by rolling back ratings to a previous state — or not.
