GTPlanet Community Spotlight: The Real Numbers Behind GT6

It would appear the phrase “What a week this has been!” has become wholly synonymous with the Community Spotlight. For the past couple of weeks it has been the perfect combination of words to quickly set the scene for everything that follows, and with everything that’s gone on in the past couple of days relative to E3, you could very well imagine just how much of a week this has been when compared to those prior. This is going to be a special one-off Community Spotlight that will focus on E3 while still delivering the content expected from the Spotlight.

With more interesting games than I care to shake a stick at, this year’s E3 has gone to great lengths to cement the current console offerings as must-haves for those that haven’t indulged already and were perhaps waiting for something to steer them in right direction. Whether it be Rise of the Tomb Raider, Fallout 4, Recore, or the fantastic-looking Horizon: Zero Dawn, the incredible news for those that have been waiting for that The Last Guardian is coming, and next year at that, or Shenmue III, there’s something on offer for just about everyone.

There’s a lot of ground to cover so without further ado, who’s ready for the Spotlight?

GTPlanet Thread of the Week – E3 2015!

62e76098-81c5-4bf0-8cd6-0605f998b04a

This year’s E3 brought a lot to the table and our community was right on top of everything to the point where the hype and the levels of excitement were almost palpable, and while things are slowly beginning to settle — as they always do — you can rest assured knowing that E3, for better or worse, was an absolute success as far as things here are concerned.

The thread itself, put together by our own Shirrako, was created on the 30th of May and started off with a boom right from the get-go, only to start an even bigger boom of discussion in the days leading up to the event. There’s still plenty of excitement to go around so you’ll most definitely want to have a peek in the thread and catch up on any news you may have missed or simply want to watch again.

Gran Turismo 6: The Real Count

18439449555_81eae684c7_z– Volkswagen Beetle 1200 at Midfield Raceway, June 3rd, 2015, courtesy of LeoStrop.

It’s no great mystery that Gran Turismo 6 has a lot of vehicles available for use, it’s also no great mystery that a portion of those vehicles aren’t genuinely adding to the diversity of the otherwise great list of vehicles.

Our very own Conza has taken on a near Herculean task of separating the unique from the not-so-unique, for lack of better phrasing, and best of all you’re encouraged to help as much as possible.

“1267 models from my perspective is plainly a bloated number, which has very little meaning.

I wanted to find this out in GT5, and the subject has gone off for me in GT6, but considering how much better the tools are now in and out of game, I’m going to try and crack this.

This OP will be updated before it’s finished.

Duplicates: I’m going to put a list of the duplicate cars, citing what I think is the ‘quint-essential’ example of each model, then putting a count next to that car for how many times its duplicated in some tiny variation, which could be removed, and will be discounted from the total of 1267.

I’m open to anyone posting replies with exceptions to my list, stating something isn’t a duplicate, or a manufacturer which has a duplicate I haven’t listed.”

You are more than encouraged to stop by the thread and join in on the discussion, the thread is still in its infancy as it was just started last Friday, June 12th, and this can very well prove to be a project worth seeing through to the end.

The Crew: Wild Run – Available November 17th

The Crew was a hot topic at E3 2013 as it was one of, if not the only next generation game that would think outside of the limitations of track boundaries, a task not undertaken, at least to this scale, since Test Drive Unlimited 1 and 2.

The Crew allows you to race around a scaled version of the United States fulfilling a number of unique objectives and story-based tasks, and later this year the game is looking to receive an entirely new look on things.

“Show off your skills to earn your ticket to The Summit, an unofficial gathering of thousands of drivers and mechanics from around the world which takes place in iconic locations all around the USA.

Ride your motorbike on your way to The Summit, impress the crowd of the monster truck arena in the Yosemite Valley, smell burnt rubber behind the wheel of your drift car or break speed records with your dragster on Bonneville Salt Flats. The promising thrills of new challenges await you and your friends.

The gathering has begun. The Summit is here.”

“WARNING! This is a Track Specific Time Trial Tune. This Car WILL LIKELY FAIL on other Tracks or if Tire Wear, Fuel Usage or Mechanical Failures are Enabled.”

The Last Lap

E3 may have come to an end, but the excitement is still running high and while I intended this to be longer than it ended up being, it was for the better. There’s just too much going on to list off every single game I liked or disliked, and we’d be here all day and night reading a piece that’s seemingly without end and no one wants that. What I will do right this second is this:

Were you really expecting me to not mention this, really? Do you know me at all? Oryx, The Taken King… I have to admit, he looks completely unlike every raid boss that has preceded, which, and we’re being honest here, were lazy redesigns of existing character models. Oryx, on the other hand, looks like, well, he looks like the devil. With three eyes. And a sword. That can take the form of a Hive Wizard, an incredibly annoying (and dangerous!) enemy, so I’m definitely looking forward to that nonsense.

I do have my reservations regarding the price tag of $40 for the standalone expansion, and I’m not even going to bother uttering the prices of the expansion packaged with all of the year one content. Suffice to say, it isn’t $40.

Considering the number of times I’ve had to lay this content out for ease of reading without bombarding your eyes with every possible thing I wanted to talk about, I’ve finally begun to go completely insane. Of course I’m kidding but I am drawing blanks because I’ve stored so much information away for our own well-being that it’s probably best we save some of this for the weeks that are sure to follow.

Before heading out, in the previous Community Spotlight (I almost wrote “Weekly Rewind” – old habits!) I began talking about PC nerdery, and while I absolutely intend to tackle AMD’s “Fiji” announcement next week, there was the subject of my recent video card purchase – the ASUS Strix GTX 970. For those of you that have absolutely no idea what that is, allow me to show you:

Strix 970!

This replaced my previous two cards that ran in tandem and you know what? It blitzes both of them and then some in every single game that I own, and it can run just about anything in 4K with ease. Before I nerd out anymore I’m going to end with a question to all of you: what would you like to see in future installments of the Community Spotlight? I’ve been a little tasked to come up with ideas of my own so I’m especially interested in what thoughts are out there.

Until next week, keep racing!

Great article T-12. I enjoy how informative and varied the “GTPlanet Community Spotlight” is.

  2. Johnnypenso

Congratulations to @kapnk006 on Tune of the Week!! So much work goes into a really good Project Cars tune but when you get it just right as with the R8 LMS, it’s an absolute joy to drive on the limit. Well done!

  3. Le_Manuz

that list of F1 2015 supported controllers is interesting but it’s still not good
support logitech G29 on PS4 but not all others logitech products …
they better add them and not force us to go on logitech G29
if it’s like that, we (logitech product owner) have to boycott all logitech products

  4. Stylel_Code

Wow, if that’s the real sound of the corvette, I must say I was surprised it sounds very similar to GT6.

  5. Mulan

When will you take weekly topic about female drivers? F1 is so male dominated, all GT is maledomimated. Not as if femaledrivers are worse drivers…or are they you think?
Its time weekly topics and moderators take women drivers seriously and hopefully get female members too…just knowing picture of the week or setup of the week is not just s guy thing would make me happy.
But moderators should take first step, like fifa that will include female players in game…and FIFA that is so corrupted).
Common GTPlanet where are female racers and topics. If you feel im off as a guy then delete me.

    1. infamousphil

I get your point Mulan. Maybe because the sport is dominated by male drivers, not to say there aren’t any females driving out there… the girls don’t garner any mention. I’m totally not into NASCAR or CART (if it still exists).

One of my favorite race movies is “Heart Like A Wheel”. Also, one of my fastest friends in GT is a girl. But the subject matter may require some delving into the grass roots racing scene which may take away from more relevent news. News on other race games here at the Planet have already taken away information on GT.

Not to say l’m not interested (it actually doesn’t matter to me) but l can’t recall any mention of my 2 favorite drivers, currently doing their own thangs on the international racing scene, are of African decent. No need to mention their ethniticity either because we got pictures of them… worth a thousand words.

Also, a forum on either subject could be misconstrued as sexist or racist. A single person can easily be seen as intellegent, dedicated or heroed. But people grouped as a whole can just as easily be made out to be stupid, irrellevent or villified. Noboby likes a hackjob here… except maybe another hackjob for example.

      Hope this helps ;)

    2. Johnnypenso

There are so few female drivers competing at a +high level that it’s more of a news story to discuss why they aren’t at the top level than just about anything else.

  6. Johnnypenso

Great choice in the videocard, best bang for the buck of all the cards out there I think. I have one myself and it works beautifully.

  7. SZRT Ice

A “Video Of The Week” section showcasing community activities/races would be nice (w/ a limit of 5 – 10 mins a video).

I’m surprised there was no mention of the new Need for Speed considering the fact that you mentioned The Crew: Wild Run (Btw, you called it “Wild Ride) and other non-racing/simulator games.

Also, did you see the Hololens presentation? It was nuts!

    1. Terronium-12

As I’ve mentioned, there was so much I wanted to talk about that I ended up repressing some of it. For NFS and Hololens… those I just completely forgot about.

There’s always the weeks that follow!

  8. Obelisk

Terronium, the Beetle picture is on Midfield Raceway. That blue area to the left behind the car is the curbing on the exit of Turn 2 if you’re following the Forward direction.
