GTPlanet Weekly Rewind: Driven to the Edge

11473892756_22a0658e7a_c

We’re in the wake of another Formula One weekend, this time taking a trip to the Bahrain International Circuit, albeit with a twist. This year the circuit will make use of an all-new floodlight system that will see the Grand Prix event into the hours beyond the sun, making this the second race of the season to run without natural lighting.

Should prove to be very exciting in comparison to previous exchanges, doubly so should the heavens open up. Is this all becoming a little too poetic? I can’t help it because it’s this kind of change that benefits the sport, and not slowing down the cars and worrying about their footprint.

I’m all for safety and making the drivers as far removed from imminent danger as possible, but it all seems to come at the cost of the actual sport itself. I’m of the opinion that if the powers that be are so concerned with the emissions coming from a field of 22 highly strung race cars (even more when you consider every other discipline on any given second of the day) that they should simply remove the cars from the track and be done with it.

Before I go any further and blow a gasket or three while doing so, let’s get the Rewind on its feet!

GTPlanet Quiz of the Week

Gran Turismo 6

The sixth week is upon us, and the question is and forever will be, how much do you know?

1. License test B-3, Basics of Cornering – Front wheel drive, in the third chapter featured this car and required what time across the finish line to gold the event?

2. This American concept car served as display piece for the Northstar XV12 engine platform.

3. This multiple time Formula One champion is known as “The Professor”.

4. Whether purchased or obtained as a prize, vehicles in the second chapter with an initial cost of 2 million credits could be sold back to the dealer for what amount?

5. This event in the Mission Hall of the fourth chapter was made more difficult in what region?

Clues will be provided if necessary. The official thread is up and running but hasn’t been outfitted with the full breakdown of things just yet, so until that happens be sure to drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Quiz of the Week”, and share your answers.

GTPlanet Member of the Week

The prized status and stardom that only the Member of the Week can bring has once again arrived and thus, it is once again time to acknowledge a member of the GTPlanet community; a member who has stood out among the hundreds of thousands of members already here, both old and new alike for all that they’re worth and all they have contributed to the community.

Yet another Junior member is among the ranks, and this particular member is one of the more active members in the GT community, so let’s welcome Outeke to the ever-expanding MotW madhouse!

The interview is now live and provides the usual share of laughter, but more importantly provides the medium of getting to know your fellow GTP members a little bit better. For the whole kit-n-kaboodble be sure to stop by the official Member of the Week thread.

Anyone you’d like to see recognized as the Member of the Week? Drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Member of the Week”, and fill it out with your choices and they’ll be featured in upcoming Rewinds. NOTE: You cannot nominate yourself.

GTPlanet Tune of the Week

11393106445_9d10741bc9_c

This week’s featured tune, recommended to us by tuning aficionado danbojte and courtesy of Ridox2JZGTE of RIDOX Replicas Garage, features the 1992 Honda CR-X del Sol SiR.

“This car is built according to a J’s Racing built customer track racer back in the late 90’s, the car was sold off and left Japan to live as track day car. Information for the build is very hard to find, I have to scour forums, and J’s Racing sites, and finally got a user who have been close with the car owner that can give me further details on power specs for the J’s Racing B18C race engine, suspension, LSD etc.

The car is one mean FF machine, the body has been gutted, reinforced and fitted with a roll cage, weighs at 985 kg for this 450PP version. Powerplant came from J’s Racing hand built B18C racing engine producing over 270PS.

LSD uses J’s Racing High Traction model with low initial torque, 55/25 cam angle and locking rate tuned for R comp Semi Slick ( S tire or Sports Medium in GT6 ). MFactory Cross Mission/Close Ratio gear set 3-5 has been used while still using stock final gear, for tracks with higher top speed, simply lower the final gear. Suspension has been upgraded with newer J’s Racing CRUX Engineering SPL version Racing Damper Kit, with spring rate set at 14/10 aimed at racing on the track. Wheel alignment, particularly toe has been tweaked, with slight front toe in and slight rear toe out to give better steering response.

The 450PP version is highly recommended to run on sports tires as the power easily overwhelm the skinny comfort tires. Tested and tuned at Tsukuba, Brands Hatch GP, and Nordschleife.”

Victory is the name of the game as usual and if it’s a deserving victory that you’re after and you want to do so while taming one of the most difficult and argumentative vehicles in the game, then you’ll want to stop by and see the tune for yourself!

Exactly like the Picture and Vehicle of the Week features, if you have any suggestions for the upcoming Rewinds be sure to drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Tune of the Week” and let me know. NOTE: You cannot elect your own work.

GTPlanet Photomode Competitions

apmcheader_017

We’ve reset the counter for the sixth chapter in the Gran Turismo series and the photomode competition is back and better than ever.

In Week 17 of the Standard and Advanced competitions for GT6 you are to put your best foot forth and show the community just how seriously you take your in-game photography. All you need to know is as follows:

Week 017, Standard: Not So Ruf Around the Edges – “As the closest thing to a Porsche we have in Gran Turismo the RUF’s have always been a firm favourite of mine. Now that PD have given them the ‘semi-premium’ treatment I’m loving them all the more.

This week take out any RUF (or two) and show me the love. All locations including Photo Travel are elligible and there’s no restriction on the type of shot – just don’t show me a beaten up RUF.”

Week 017, Advanced 2.0: My Funky Shoes – “Shoes are an essential part of our wardrobe. We buy a huge number of different models of different types, shapes, colors for various occasions in life. If we talk about cars, the cars also have “shoes” – rims and tires of different kinds, colors and shapes. Of course in real life, the constant buying new shoes for your car is costly, but in GT it’s easy enough to do. Pick “shoes” for one of your favorite cars to your taste and mood and take a shot. Looking forward for some crazy color combos.”

For all of the relevant information pertaining to this week’s challenges be sure to stop by here and here.

Closing Thoughts

This is a difficult time of the year, and before you get too worried it’s nothing serious whatsoever. It’s a difficult time because all of my favorite TV programs (I told you it wasn’t serious! Stop shouting at your monitor.) are coming to an end one-by-one, whether it be a series or season finale it won’t be long until I’m on the lookout for something new to fill the void until they’ve returned.

Speaking of things that have ended, I may as well address a series that has come to its end this past Monday, and this is, of course, How I Met Your Mother. My thoughts? I hated the finale. Hated it. With a capital “H” just in case my level of sheer disappointment wasn’t made clearly evident. Having said that, I’ve come to a mutual understanding of how things turned out the way they did after having discussed it with a few fine folks here.

Moving on to positive things, Captain America: The Winter Soldier is out tomorrow and I’m definitely going to see it being the comic book nerd that I am. And immediately after I’ve seen it I will wonder the ways in which the story will carry over into Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. because the past several episodes have been incredible; definitely picking up the pace and shattering its previously established mold with a barbed-wire-wrapped aluminum bat. I will definitely be looking forward to and talking about it with the utmost fervor, provided they aren’t female because I’ll just get “the look” and I’ll be shamed into an eternal shower of dreary life decisions.

Wow, that was dark. That was too dark actually so I’m going to politely ask that you just pretend that entire last sentence was about popcorn. Who doesn’t love popcorn? Sit back down, I’m not done yet.

Now I’m done. Until next week, keep racing!

    For QotW,
#1 was the Fiat Coupe Turbo Plus and Gold time was 31.1 seconds
    #2 Cadillac Cien?
#5 Event 34 (SLR McLaren 1 Lap magic around Nordschleife) was made harder in the American region

  2. Terronium-12

Rewind updated – knocked out some typo’s, updated the Member of the Week section, and I’ve now seen Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

It was awesome. Look out for talks of that next week!

  3. Amac500

I absolutely agree with you about taking power from race cars. I mean I think that is a lot of what has made F1 races become relatively boring on after the first lap or 2, excluding of course the unfair passing system known as DRS (seriously, use P2P like indycars). When the engines got smaller a greater effort was put into aerodynamics to make up time. Speeds in the corners went up, straightaway speed went down, and thus the braking zones got smaller. Without braking zones there are little to no passing opertunity, because even if you plan to pass on the straight away it all comes back to previous corner’s braking zone. Because of losing power the racing gradually got worse and we saw the sad state of DRS and all the uninspired pop-up tracks that lack character, with the exception of COTA and that might be more of a Bernie/Tilke problem, designed with F1 in mind. In my opinion those tracks totally failed actually. What tracks have the best racing every year? Spa and Monza. Those tracks weren’t created based around modern F1, but now I’m getting off topic.

Obviously safety is important to people but I also agree that it shouldn’t be to safe, which sounds bad to say, but when it gets to a point where the racing is cushioned too much. Like all those rediculous runoffs for one. Look at the onboards in qualifying, the tires always go over the curb to pavement. Back in the day if you went just slightly out of bounds it would be an accident. No forgiveness, no second chances, you actually drive the car. Remember when the men were men? That’s what racing is to me.

    1. GTP_DeathStar

And if a few more people need to die to make it more fun for you, it’s ok, as long as they were “men”, right?

    2. Amac500

Your one of those who can’t have it explained to. It’s not something you learn, it’s something you understand.

  4. polpol3214

they say the GPS will be ” included” .. does it means there are some new things to be included in that update?? wish it is “ENGINE SOUNDS” and also new car.

    1. MLRSparco

I highly doubt they would tell is about the GPS visualizer and not engine sounds or course maker, the rest of the update will probably be something small like bug fixes or a new vision car.
