Gran Turismo 6 has been available for a month now, and in that short amount of time the game has evolved from its vanilla offering to that of something that has been host to first-time experiences and the rekindling of those in the past: The 2014 BMW M4 Coupè, a vehicle that won’t even be on sale until sometime this year, the Hudson Hornet that served as Mario Andretti’s “first love”, and the introduction of the all-new Red Bull X challenges – all of this within a 31 day time period.
It leaves one to wonder what can be accomplished in the expanse of one entire year. We’re already expecting the collaborative efforts between Polyphony and the Ayrton Senna Foundation to come to fruition some time around May, which will bring a wealth of new content to the game that will no doubt be graciously accepted by motorsport fans. Past that there’s still the upcoming inclusion of the new and improved Course Generator, a feature that should extend the appeal and overall lifetime of the title tremendously.
2014 is going to be an interesting year for Gran Turismo not only because it is essentially the final full-force AAA effort on a dated platform going up against the offerings and promises of next generation ingenuity, but because this is without a doubt the most ambitious effort for a GT title yet and despite everything that’s in store it leaves you with a hankering for me; what’s going to become of Gran Turismo on the PlayStation 4?

GTPlanet Member of the Week
It is once again time to acknowledge a member of the GTPlanet community; a member who has stood out among the hundreds of thousands of members already here, both old and new alike for all that they’re worth and all they have contributed to the community.
As we’ve come to alternate over the past several weeks it should come as no surprise that we’re once again back to celebrating a Senior member, so let’s give a very warm welcome to the newest member to find a vacant apartment in the ever-expanding MotW madhouse, Cano!
The interview is now live and provides the usual share of laughter, but more importantly provides the medium of getting to know your fellow GTP members a little bit better, and his implicit love of all things die-cast and Cowboy Bebop! For the whole kit-n-kaboodble be sure to stop by the official Member of the Week thread.
Anyone you’d like to see recognized as the Member of the Week? Drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Member of the Week” and fill it out with your choices and they’ll be featured in upcoming Rewinds. NOTE: You cannot nominate yourself.
GTPlanet Vehicle of the Week
To celebrate the LFA’s hat-trick of class wins at the Nürburgring 24 Hours race, Lexus has created the Nürburgring Package, an array of aerodynamic features, suspension adjustments and revisions to the 4.8-litre V10 engine that give the supercar a more track-focused profile. Shown in public for the first time at the Geneva motor show, the performance option is available on just 50 of the 500 cars that will be built. These versions will be crafted during 2012, the second full year of LFA production.
To sharpen the car’s circuit driving performance even further by increasing downforce at high speed, the Nürburgring Package introduces modifications and additions to several key carbon fibre reinforced plastic (CFRP) components. These include a larger front spoiler, fin-type side spoilers, a canard fin and a fixed rear wing.
To ensure the LFA maintains its 3.7-second acceleration time from nought to 62mph, in spite of the increased drag, the V10 engine has been revised to increase maximum power by 10bhp to 562bhp. Shift times in the six-speed sequential transmission are just 0.15 seconds.
In terms of handling modifications, the package features suspension tuning and a 10mm reduction in the ride height. Exclusive mesh-type wheels are introduced, fitted with dedicated high-grip tyres.
Exterior colour choices are restricted to matte black, black, white or orange, with interiors finished in black and red, black and purple and all-black. Cars delivered in Europe will feature a carbon fibre centre console and door trims, with carbon fibre sports seats finished in Alcantara.
Customers who specify the package will also be offered one-to-one driving tuition from a Nürburgring chief instructor and a year’s pass to enjoy their car on the famous Nordschleife circuit.
GTPlanet Tune of the Week
This week’s featured tune, recommended to us by tuning aficionado danbojte and courtesy of ACSR421 of Clueless, over The Hill Outlaws (a merging of Clueless Tunes, Outlaw Motorsports and The Hill) features the 2010 Volkswagen Golf VI R tuned for 450PP outings.
Victory is the name of the game as usual and if it’s a deserving victory that you’e after and you want to do so with a little bit of German Excellence, then you’ll want to stop by and see the tune for yourself – and remember, Clueless, over The Hill Outlaws have been featured in the space for the past three weeks now so congratulations guys!
Exactly like the Picture and Vehicle of the Week features, if you have any suggestions for the upcoming Rewinds be sure to drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Tune of the Week” and let me know. NOTE: You cannot elect your own work.
GTPlanet Photomode Competitions
We’ve reset the counter for the sixth chapter in the Gran Turismo series and the photomode competition is back and better than ever.
In Week 4 of the Standard and Advanced competitions for GT6 you are to put your best foot forth and show the community just how seriously you take your in-game photography. All you need to know is as follows:
Week 004, Standard: FWD vs. RWD – “It’s that never-ending battle this week; the light, agile front-drivers versus the powerful, slip-slidey rear-drive cars. Your mission is simple; choose one side to support!”
Week 004, Advanced 2.0: Nature Feels – “This week I want to see the beauty of nature captured with or without a car(s). I don’t like seeing shots make it that have little relation to the theme, make sure to have nature strongly inflicted in your shot! What’s the point of a theme if it’s not followed? Capture the sun rise at Willow, the suns rays through the trees of Trial Mountain, the scenery of the Nürburgring for some ideas.”
For all of the relevant information pertaining to this week’s challenges be sure to stop by here and here.
Closing Thoughts
Still relatively quiet but with two updates planned for this month things are bound to change any day now, and as I really have nothing left to add to this week’s occasion I’ll just keep it short and sweet – until next week, keep racing!
