All has been quiet on the Gran Turismo front for the past several weeks and one has to wonder what’s going on behind the elusive doors of Polyphony’s office. The days of January are still at their earliest, but with two updates currently scheduled for this month it shouldn’t be too long before the wheels are turning at a steady pace again.
If you’re one of the many wondering why the latest events in the ‘Red Bull X Challenge’ are still unavailable despite their previously noted New Year’s Day availability, wonder no longer as the following notification can now be found in Gran Turismo 6:
About The Release of the 2nd Part of the “Red Bull X Challenge”
“The in-game message displayed when someone attempts o enter the 2nd part of the “Red Bull X Challenge” is incorrect. The next event will be available at the end of January and not on the 1st as currently suggested.
The message will be amended with the next game update. We deeply apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
The message appears to convey that the two updates are still on schedule at the very least, but the jury is out on when the first is to be expected. Patience is a virtue after all.
GTPlanet Picture of the Week
This week’s featured image, recommended to us by SDLocked and courtesy of Eric1512, features the 15th Anniversary edition Audi R18 TDi parked on the front straight, perhaps preparing to tackle Eau Rouge and Raidillion.

From 3D to Reality: GT by Citroen
The GT by Citroen is a radical supercar concept resultant of a collaboration between Polyphony Digital and Citroen and was first introduced to the Gran Turismo series in Spec II of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.
The “3D” in the title does not refer to it’s virtual recreation, what’s being referenced is a further collaboration between Polyphony Digital, Citroen and Materialise which would bring the concept to life through means of Stereolithography – 3D Printing.
The article is an interesting one as it gives an insightful look at the work done on 3D printing concept cars. Stop by i.materialise’s website for the full reveal.
Gran Turismo 6 vs. Real Life: Nurburgring Nordschleife in a GT86 Race Car
The Nurburgring has been featured in the franchise since Gran Turismo 4 and is perhaps best known for being one of the most dangerous technical circuits in the world, and was even the former location of the Formula 1 German Grand Prix up until 1969.
The ‘Ring is the third track to be placed under the microscope of accuracy as the real and virtual worlds collide. Can you tell the difference?
GTPlanet Member of the Week
It is once again time to acknowledge a member of the GTPlanet community; a member who has stood out among the hundreds of thousands of members already here, both old and new alike for all that they’re worth and all they have contributed to the community.
This week is a special one because for the first time a member of staff has made their way into the Member of the Week madhouse. So, let’s welcome the first landlord to keep things safe in the ever-expanding Member of the Week complex, WRP001!
The interview is now live and provides the usual share of laughter, but more importantly provides the medium of getting to know your fellow GTP members a little bit better, and his impeccable ability to keep things tidy. For the whole kit-n-kaboodble be sure to stop by the official Member of the Week thread.
Anyone you’d like to see recognized as the Member of the Week? Drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Member of the Week” and fill it out with your choices and they’ll be featured in upcoming Rewinds. NOTE: You cannot nominate yourself.
GTPlanet Vehicle of the Week
In 1984 Ferrari produced a street-legal car that exuded a very raw level of performance; developed alongside the Testarossa, the car bore a name seemingly analogous to Ferrari’s racing history: GTO – Gran Turismo Omologato.
The 1984 288 GTO was powered by a 2.8 liter twin turbocharged V8 that developed 400 horsepower, enough to reach 60 mph in five seconds or less and charge to a conservative top speed of 189 mph. Like its ancestors, the 288’s real home were the public roads designated as FISA Group B racing tracks, where it was necessary to homologate 200 production-ready cars. Ferrari built approximately 272 GTO’s, and because of the demise of the no-holds barred Group B supercar series almost all became road cars.
The 1986 GTO Evoluzione—of which only five exist—is a more aggressively-styled racing machine with increased power, originally outputting as much as 650 horsepower, the GTO Evoluzione could power on to a top speed of 225 mph. These cars form the clearest visual link to the 40th Anniversary supercar, the 1987 F40.

GTPlanet Tune of the Week
This week’s featured tune, recommended to us by DigitalBaka and courtesy of HeelToer, features the 2005 Mazdaspeed Atenza tuned for 500PP outings (493PP, to be exact!), and just happens to be the FITT Car of the Month.
“Its a pretty straight-foward tune. No fancy tricks to get it to go. Steers great, with a touch of oversteer if your not carefull with the throttle on corner-exit. All tuning was done at Deep Forest using a G27 wheel, no clutch. I suck at the Nordshleif but i managed to get a 7:48 on SH…not sure if thats good for a 493pp car or not.”
Victory is the name of the game as usual and if it’s a deserving victory that you’e after and you want to do so the Zoom Zoom way, then you’ll want to stop by and see the tune for yourself.
Exactly like the Picture and Vehicle of the Week features, if you have any suggestions for the upcoming Rewinds be sure to drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Tune of the Week” and let me know. NOTE: You cannot elect your own work.
2013 Rally Legends – 10 Minutes of Blissful Audio
Try skipping this once you’ve hit that play button. Go on, I dare you to try. All the pops, crackles, backfires, chirps and gear wobbling one can possibly handle.
GTPlanet Photomode Competitions
We’ve reset the counter for the sixth chapter in the Gran Turismo series and the photomode competition is back and better than ever.
In Week 5 of the Standard and Advanced competitions for GT6 you are to put your best foot forth and show the community just how seriously you take your in-game photography. All you need to know is as follows:
Week 005, Standard: When The Sun Goes Down – “The theme for this week is simple: Take any car to any track with a full time change, and take some beautiful night-racing shots!”
Week 005, Advanced 2.0: JDM Legends – “I’ve always been a sucker for old JDM cars, so take any Japanese car from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s and give it a run.”
For all of the relevant information pertaining to this week’s challenges be sure to stop by here and here.
Closing Thoughts
The acute lack of noise is really starting to wear me thin. I want noise and lots of it! With any luck that should be the case this time next week, but until then I’m still left without much to say or latch onto.
Until next week, keep racing!
