GTPlanet Weekly Rewind: Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang

Gran Turismo fans definitely had some unexpected news this week, with the announcement that a Gran Turismo movie is in the works. How the producers will develop a plot around Gran Turismo will be very interesting to see. Meanwhile, there is no shortage of interesting (and hilarious) ideas being shared in our forums!

“While we wait for more news on the new film, enjoy this edition of the Weekly Rewind, which features an amazing shot of the 787B, an interesting take on Monaco, a junior member of the GTPlanet forums, a unique Lotus, and much more!

GTPlanet Picture of the Week

Back to the normal side of things for this week’s featured image which is never a bad thing because the pictures have the tendency to speak for themselves. Recommended to us by The Stig Farmer and courtesy of NBDESIGNZ, features Mazda’s 787B at the forefront of the Group C madness in a photo set aptly titled “Le Mans Classics”.

GTPlanet Weekly Race (WRS) Week 127: Monaco on a Budget

Monaco, on a budget? Sounds like utter madness but it isn’t — what you’ll be taking to the famed street circuit is Mazda’s Atenza Sport (Mazda6) and tackling each one of Cote d’Azur’s  sweeping bends, chicanes, and hairpins while attempting a controllable amount of powersliding through the corners where necessary and put the pedal to the metal.

Given the Mazda’s front-wheel driven characteristics understeer is your worst enemy on a street circuit as claustrophobic and inviting-for-disaster as Cote d’Azur is, so let’s not pretend this is going to be a cakewalk because it’s sure to be the exact opposite. Use the 196 horses under the hood to the best of your ability and channel a bit of Formula 1 precision as you run this week’s car for all that it’s worth.

The car is a nice drive around here. It’s been a while since we used an FF car with normal tires. The staggered compounds give it a fun little bit of drift in the longer sweepers.

What more do you need to know? Get out there and have some fun! Stop by the official thread here and remember that you NEED to be registered before officially participating in the WRS, and that can only be done by submitting a time for the official GTP Registry Qualifier.

GTPlanet Member of the Week

You know what time it is, time to acknowledge another grand member of the community who has stood out for all that they’re worth. This week’s inductee is an avid F1 fan and is someone many of you will be familiar with, welcome mattythedog to the Member of the Week hall of fame!

Matty is the second in line of junior member inductees that’s been placed in the spotlight, proving once again that it isn’t always about the tried and true. The interview itself provides its share of entertainment and will be quite the easy read with the new presentation format. It’s only going to improve from here.

For the full interview be sure to stop by the Member of the Week thread and get to know matty better, or maybe even see the world through his eyes. He is, after all, the fifteenth member to be recognized among his peers. Who’s next?

Anyone you’d like to see recognized as the Member of the Week? Drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Member of the Week” and fill it out with your choices and they’ll be featured in upcoming Rewinds. NOTE: You cannot nominate yourself.

GTPlanet Vehicle of the Week

Internally known as the Type 104, it was one of the most distinct cars in the Lotus lineup, and two different names relative to the position of the steering column; Omega for left-hand drive and Carlton for right-hand drive. It will come as no surprise that this week’s vehicle, recommended to us by AudiMan2011, is the Lotus Carlton.

Motivated by Opel and Vauxhall wanting to improve the image of their platform car, Lotus took the Vauxhall Carlton and improve almost every component. Powered by a GM Inline-6 with replaced pistons, crankshaft, induction system, cooling manifold and induction bodies, the newly-displaced 3.6L I6 with a redesigned cylinder head and twin Garett tubochargers outputted 377 horsepower, up from the original 204.

As a result, the Carlton was the fastest saloon car in 1989 and was produced up until 1992 with close to 900 examples built, all in Imperial Green Metallic.

Have a suggestion for next week’s featured image? Drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Vehicle of the Week” and fill it out with your two choices and they’ll be featured in upcoming Rewinds. NOTE: You cannot elect your own work.

GTPlanet Tune of the Week

Who doesn’t enjoy driving a car bearing the name of the company’s founder? That’s right, this week’s tune bears the name “Henry” and I can only assume it’s an homage to Henry Ford but I could be completely mistaken and it’s actually an homage to something completely left field. This week’s tune, recommended to us by Motor City Hami, comes to us courtesy of Clueless Tunes’ krenkme and places you behind the wheel of the Ford GT LM Spec II Test Car.

Tuned for a 660+ PP events and with over 680 horses prancing,  there will be imminent shortage of tire-shredding ferocity as you dive into a corner. Victory is the name of the game as usual and if it’s a deserving victory that you’e after then you’ll want to stop by and see the tune for yourself.

Exactly like the Picture and Vehicle of the Week features, if you have any suggestions for the upcoming Rewinds be sure to drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Tune of the Week” and let me know. NOTE: You cannot elect your own work.

GTPlanet Photomode Competitions

In Week 139 of the Standard and Advanced competitions you are to put your best foot forth and show the community just how seriously you take your in-game photography. All you need to know is as follows:

Week 139, Standard: Artistic Freedom – This is a fairly simple subject matter, let your creativity shine this week as you evoke some artistry in your photoshoots. Simply put, there has to be some form of art present in the picture whether it be graffiti, a painting, or a sculpture.

Week 139, Advanced 2.0: Artistic Engine Shots – More artistry and it’s also fairly simple, channel more of your artistry and focus on the engine compartments or bare engines of those compliant. It’s refreshing to see a fairly uniform approach to the photomode competitions this week as I can’t recall when this last occurred.

For all of the relevant information pertaining to this week’s challenges be sure to stop by here and here.

I just have to say excellent job with the first photo featuring the 787B, NBDESIGNZ. Rain effects in Photoshop are not easy by any means.

  2. Flaco13

The Carlton deserved it! Thank you AudiMan and T12. But hey T12…psst … it´s Vauxhall, with two L! ;)

So Matty is a him & a her at the same time ? We need mod’s to mod the mod’s.

I loved the V12 that was in the 787B. Too bad it didn’t win. It looked like a strong competitor back in ’93.

Mazda aren’t smart enough, they like to do it the difficult way.

Surely you have to be smart to do it the hard way and win…?

    1. Sk1lin3

If they aren’t smart enough, then how come other automakers haven’t tried to develop a Rotary engine? That’s riiiight, they’re to scared. Mazda has guts and brains.

  5. 05XR8

Good right up on the Carlton. It was also noted to have a torque figure close to a Lamborghini Diablo!

So I looked at the first paragraph and can comprehend everything being said there so I’m going to assume English isn’t your first language and will direct you to Google for help in translating on what’s being said.

There’s no movie in the works. It was a pointless rumor started by Hollywood tabloids….how do you not see that

    1. Terronium-12

You still upset about the photomode competitions?

Maybe you want to bitch about that some more.

  7. SavageEvil

All the photos look incredible, but the one with the Mazda, those yachts in the marina look in dire need of a polygon boost(looks like N64 visuals).

    1. ScotteDawg

Or, it could be an animated movie (like Disney/Pixar’s “CARS”) with talking GT-R’s (and other cars, but MOSTLY Nissan GT-R’s) planning to take over the world…

There could even be a modern day pirate Skyline called Geedy Arrrgh!
