We’ve been down this road many times in the past and I’m sure many of you know, at least by now, that I’m a photomode junkie. The photomode efforts present in Gran Turismo, and by extension, the efforts present in our very own Photomode Forum for GT6 are quickly becoming a cornerstone of GTPlanet.
Every photo taken is capable of telling its own story or conveying a mood – a signature tale of any photographer. I would even go so far as to suggest that the increasingly popular inclusion of photomode in racing games often acts as an outlet for budding photographers as the cost often doesn’t exceed the price of the game itself, and once there’s a sense of familiarity with what’s being offered it quickly becomes an extension of expressionism. There are a wealth of talented “GTtographers” here so I’ll do my best to direct you to a few threads capable of highlighting the talent available.
- The Realistic Photo Thread – ECGadget
- Artistic Photo Thread – ECGadget
- Panoramic Photography – RevoXeli
The list could go on and on as there are threads with the sole intention of focusing on just the scenery in the background, photos that accentuate the body language of the vehicle, and so on. It’s one of the best things about Gran Turismo and racing games in general.
GTPlanet Picture of the Week
This week’s featured image, recommended to us by VBR and courtesy of anthaliscious, features the 2012 #166 GAZOO Racing Toyota 86 looking incredibly photo-realistic and wonderfully illustrates how this pastime is quickly becoming a cornerstone for our community here.
Have a suggestion for next week’s featured image? Drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Picture of the Week” and fill it out with your two choices and they’ll be featured in upcoming Rewinds. NOTE: You cannot elect your own work.
FITT Miata Tuner Challenge
It’s time for another challenge that will actively seek out (and reward) who could be the next go-to tuner who may very well be featured here soon enough. Before I get myself too excited, I’ll hand it over to Motor City Hami and let him explains things:
First, I had a mission in mind when I picked the cars and the four classes. Mazda has been very active in the United States at trying to develop a ladder system from beginner to pro for road racing. Most of the professional racing drivers in the U.S., well, at least the ones who can actually make a good living from it, all drive in circles. Yep, NASCAR, with a large audience made up of beer bellied hillbillies that drive large television ratings because, well, who watches a lot of TV.
Road racing fans who once called Speed Channel home on Sunday afternoons are now left to hunt the internet to find any legal or illegal stream of road racing, just to get our fix since Speed became the Ultimate Fighting Championship network. That was the day I cancelled cable, but I digress.
So, I built this tuning challenge to somewhat mirror the spirit of Mazda’s ladder program. Beginners start out in Spec Miata and work their way up through faster cars to finally reach the ranks of pro road racing. Tuners may pick any two of the four classes, but Spec Miata is reserved for beginners. FITT tuner challenge podium finishers from the past may only pick from the top three groups.
Interested? Why wouldn’t you be? Stop by the official thread here for all the details you’ll need and sign up today!
GTPlanet Quiz of the Week
They’re finally here! Every week from hereon out your knowledge of car culture and Gran Turismo will be put to the test, and every month the quizzes will become more difficult. It’s going to be a little bit of trial-and-error before we’ve stricken the right chord, so there are going to be rough patches along the way, however, that doesn’t mean it won’t be fun in the mean time.
Enough of this as I’m sure you’re more than prepared to get a move on.
1. A verse at the beginning of chapter three states in order to turn the planet back to one, we must engage and rearrange.
2. This championship race in the Amateur League rewarded you with one of your first big breaks in the third chapter, assuming of course it was timed properly and you were able to combat dizziness.
So there you have it, the first official questions. Clues will be provided if necessary but these should be relatively easy. Keep an eye out for the official thread that will be making way shortly, but until then be sure to drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Quiz of the Week” and share your answers.
In closing, I assure you that both of this week’s questions have to do with Gran Turismo.
GTPlanet Member of the Week
The prized status and stardom that only the Member of the Week can bring has once again arrived and thus, it is once again time to acknowledge a member of the GTPlanet community; a member who has stood out among the hundreds of thousands of members already here, both old and new alike for all that they’re worth and all they have contributed to the community.
A Senior member of elite levels of procrastination is within our reach this week, so let’s give a very warm welcome to the newest member to find a vacant apartment in the ever-expanding MotW madhouse, Roo!
The interview has yet to go live. What did you think procrastination meant? Keep an eye peeled for an update as the interview should be ready to go any moment now allowing us all to get just a little more acquainted with a member that’s been with us since 2002.
Anyone you’d like to see recognized as the Member of the Week? Drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Member of the Week” and fill it out with your choices and they’ll be featured in upcoming Rewinds. NOTE: You cannot nominate yourself.

GTPlanet Vehicle of the Week
We’re going to do things a little bit differently this week and every other week from hereon out, on every second week this particular segment of the Rewind will feature a video of the week’s particular featured vehicle instead of the normal written part.
So, without further ado, this week’s featured vehicle, recommended to us by Nelsonatormjn16, is none other than the 2011 SX4 Monster Sport Pikes Peak Special, a purpose-built monster powered by a 3.1L twin-turbocharged V6 making 910 horsepower.
GTPlanet Tune of the Week
This week’s featured vehicle, recommended to us by tuning aficionado danbojte and courtesy of praiano63, features the 2009 Nissan GT-R SpecV tuned for 600PP outings that require the might of Godzilla on Sports/Soft compounds.
Victory is the name of the game as usual and if it’s a deserving victory that you’e after and you want to do so using the technological prowess that only the GT-R can provide, then you’ll want to stop by and see the tune for yourself.
Exactly like the Picture and Vehicle of the Week features, if you have any suggestions for the upcoming Rewinds be sure to drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Tune of the Week” and let me know. NOTE: You cannot elect your own work.
GTPlanet Photomode Competitions
We’ve reset the counter for the sixth chapter in the Gran Turismo series and the photomode competition is back and better than ever.
In Week 11 of the Standard and Advanced competitions for GT6 you are to put your best foot forth and show the community just how seriously you take your in-game photography. All you need to know is as follows:
Week 011, Standard: Sochi – “As the Sochi Winter Olympics 2014 are coming to an end this weekend, head to Chamonix and get snapping in the snow! Think creatively; many cars or no cars, scenic or a close up action shot, up to you. Creativity and getting into the ‘olympic’ spirit will be the name of the game here.”
Week 011, Advanced 2.0: Rubbin’s Racin’ – “The start of the NASCAR season has begun! Take it to all mighty Daytona Superspeedway, it may be in the night representing the Budweiser Duel’s and Shootout, or during the day representing the Daytona 500.”
For all of the relevant information pertaining to this week’s challenges be sure to stop by here and here.
Closing Thoughts
I’m spent, but more than that I’m excited – I can’t wait to see how this week’s quizzes go. Remember to keep a look out for the official thread over the weekend! Until next week, keep racing!
