GTPlanet Weekly Rewind: Moon Over The Castle

13870985335_8ce657f09b_z

We’re two weeks away from what could possibly be – and I can’t stress that “possibly” enough – the most profound Gran Turismo 6 update yet involving the career of Ayrton Senna. May 1st will mark the 20th anniversary of his passing, and it’s on record that Polyphony Digital has plans laid out to celebrate the anniversary with Senna-related content.

To go one step further, Polyphony has recently reaffirmed those plans to release content that will celebrate Senna’s F1 career. The question, and you should be well aware of where this is headed, quickly and assuredly becomes “When?”.

Polyphony Fights Back; Measures Taken Against GT6 Modders!

whalersnotonthemoon

Hybrids, hacking, modding – call it what you will, the practice of fiddling with the car stable of Gran Turismo outside the usual confines of the game is almost as old as the series itself.

But in this online era of gaming, these methods can have a dramatic effect on the community and mutual trust between gamers – for every “realistic replica” creator or Lunar Rover addict there’s a whole mess of individuals who just want masses of horsepower or to cheat their way to the top of the Seasonal Event leaderboards.

This is why modders of all stripes are waking up this morning to find their access to GT6′s online sections curtailed as Sony take action against the practice:

Notice of Account Ban Measures
We have recently confirmed usage of illicitly modified game data in the online services of Gran Turismo 6, and the relevant accounts have now been banned from the service.

Hereafter, these Online IDs will no longer be able to access the online features of Gran Turismo 6.

Please be aware that usage of illicitly modified game data and any mischievous conduct against other players using such data are strictly prohibited, and will be subject to penalties as soon as they are found.

We ask everyone for their continued understanding and support.

GTPlanet Quiz of the Week

Gran Turismo 6

The eighth week is upon us, and the question is and forever will be, how much do you know?

1. This classic 80’s TV show had to refrain from using the Trans Am name as people were going into Pontiac dealers asking for a trim level that didn’t exist.

2. Can you identify this car?

No

3. When did Ferrari make their official Gran Turismo debut?

Clues will be provided if necessary. The official thread is up and running and has finally been updated but there’s still work to be done. Drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Quiz of the Week”, answering in the comments section does not count, and share your answers.

GTPlanet Vehicle of the Week

John Davis is a sight for sore eyes; a sight I haven’t seen since MotorWeek stopped being televised on Speedvision. Moving forward, this week’s featured vehicle, recommended to us by dice1998, features yet another vehicle that Mazda aficionados and Gran Turismo junkies alike will be most familiar with, the Mazda MX-5.

Have a suggestion for next week’s featured vehicle? Drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Vehicle of the Week” and fill it out with your two choices and they’ll be featured in upcoming Rewinds. NOTE: You cannot elect your own work.

GTPlanet Tune of the Week

Gran Turismo 6

This week’s featured tune, recommended to us by tuning aficionado danbojte and courtesy of Ridox2JZGTE of RIDOX Replicas Garage, features the 2008 Maserati GranTurismo S.

The MC Trofeo replica in particular is a kind of East meets West, with parts taken from Japan to make this Italian beauty completely transformed. I decided to use Fortune Auto coilover as the single rate suspension and adjustable damper setup information of the real MC Trofeo is unknown. Nevertheless, this replica managed to replicate the 2013 lap time at Silverstone International very closely.

Weight is at 1450kg ( 50kg heavier ) as I wanted to replicate the real weight distribution, and this does not affect the target lap time that I wanted to replicate at all. Also included above is 2014 power figure at 500HP, simply use 100% power limiter. Improve body rigidity is mandatory this time, as it’s beneficial when racing tires are fitted. Any road cars in GT6 can use racing tire with no issues, all it takes is proper body rigidity level and suspension + LSD tuning to make the whole package works in harmony.

Victory is the name of the game as usual and if it’s a deserving victory that you’re after and you want to do so while using the proven finesse of an Italian sports car, then you’ll want to stop by and see the tune for yourself!

Exactly like the Picture and Vehicle of the Week features, if you have any suggestions for the upcoming Rewinds be sure to drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Tune of the Week” and let me know. NOTE: You cannot elect your own work.

GTPlanet Photomode Competitions

apmcheader_019

We’ve reset the counter for the sixth chapter in the Gran Turismo series and the photomode competition is back and better than ever.

In Week 19 of the Standard and Advanced competitions for GT6 you are to put your best foot forth and show the community just how seriously you take your in-game photography. All you need to know is as follows:

Week 19, Standard: Perfect Curve – “In all those hours/days/weeks etc that you’ve been shooting some of the most beautiful and stunning cars GT6 has to offer, whilst you’ve been panning your lens over the bodywork have you ever thought to yourself that a certain line or curve detail is just exquisite in its design and concept?

It could be a bonnet detail or side scoop, a roof line, air or exhaust vent, door panel, or the sleek line over a wheel arch ……. Concentrate on taking a shot that expresses a “flow” to these areas….any car is up to you but your shot should not show the whole car ie: just a partial or zoomed in on the area you are using to express this. Be as abstract/creative as you like as long as the end result says “The Perfect Curve”.”

Week 19, Advanced 2.0: Elements – “We all know the Periodic table of elements. There each element has it’s own properties and characteristics. Now I ask you, can you recreate any element of your choice using car(s) and environment? Let’s see!”

For all of the relevant information pertaining to this week’s challenges be sure to stop by here and here.

Closing Thoughts

This past week I decided to watch Dredd upon learning that Karl Urban was playing the Judge himself, as well as Jack Reacher. The latter being something I’ve been wanting to see for a while now since taking the dive with Oblivion, a dive that paid off terrifically if I say so myself. All I have to say is wow.

The remake of Dredd is better than the original film from 1995 starring Sylvester Stallone in every possible way imaginable. Not only because it’s closer to its comic book roots (from my understanding, I’ve never actually read Judge Dredd), it’s better because it really hones in on why Dredd is so feared. I don’t want to spoil anything for those who haven’t seen it yet, but let’s just say you don’t threaten him and get away with it.

Jack Reacher is the second film starring Tom Cruise that I’ve watched with no prior knowledge of what anything was going to be about since Oblivion, and the payoff was just as plentiful. While the movie can’t be summed up with what I’m about to show you, it’s more than capable of reeling you in.

I have never wanted a Chevelle SS so badly in my entire life. See both movies, you won’t regret it. They’re both on Amazon Instant Video if you have it, and I’m sure they can be found elsewhere if need be. I wouldn’t lie about a movie with a Chevelle SS in it, nor would I lie about one that has all the action one could want from the type of movie that Dredd is, and if you haven’t seen Oblivion then I’d highly suggest adding that to your watch list as well; the soundtrack alone is better than some entire movies on merit alone.

That’s about all from me for this week, and if you’re shouting at your monitor right now for any reason, please stop because I already have a headache. Until next week, keep racing!

    My weekly rewind:
    **************
    – PIT BUG not fixed
    – Mount Panorama not usable online – freezing game or sound
    – Sector times are still buggy
    – option menu not shown when entering PIT (sometimes using a wheel, always using DS)
    – … STILL WAITING FOR FIX PD!!!

FROM THE WMD PORTAL WEBSITE – ie Project cars

If you’re an avid follower of WMD, you’ll know that Project CARS will be setting a new standard when it comes to visual fidelity in racing games.

What you might not know is that the same bit of care that goes into the visuals is put into the sounds as well!

Our busy audio department has been hard at work to make sure every car in Project CARS sounds exactly as raw & menacing as in real life.

Whilst it’s a shame about hackers again, I can’t help feeling that being able to have multiplayer races in moon buggies on the moon would be huge fun? Missed a trick there I think?
Good call on Dredd though, brilliantly done by Urban :)

  5. fordskydog

John Davis sucks. He speaks like an exaggerated characatur of a low-rent local newscaster. I bet he doesn’t talk like that when the cameras aren’t rolling. Nobody speaks that way in life.

It sounds like he’s talking to a preschooler.

    1. Terronium-12

I have to read the book now. It’s been mentioned far too often already, and I’m beginning to feel left out. Hah.

  6. Sederholm

Instead of just copy and pasting that news piece on hacking you could add that the attempts were also in vain. “Hacking” is still as possible as ever.

It is crazy that we are about to be playing video games with some dead legends, I mean come on now, Bruce Lee in UFC 14, Senna in GT6! I’m trying to think who else could be coming to a playstation near you that has died that would be great play with in a video game? Since they bringing Senna, how about another racing legend, one that I loved watching in the 90s, and GT already has the license for Nascar. Dale Earnhardt Sr. and that number 3. I think it will be pretty cool if they went and put his 80s and 90s cars on the game and did a special event like this for him. All in all, who else do you all think would be nice to play with, not just Gran Turismo, but in a video game? (Might be a good thread to start and see what ideas people come up with, it will be cool to see not just names of the person but also how they career could be played in the game).

    1. GTHEAD87

I feel you there. imagine an Ari Vatanen rally pack. or a rally legends like Richard Burns, Colin Mcrae, Stig Blomqvist etc. man that would be ace!

    2. Johnnypenso

Guys like Mario Andretti and Jacky Ickx come to mind, old school journeyman racers that had success in a huge variety of motorsports. Mario would be an awesome ambassador for the series, a true gentleman while at the same time a fierce and successful competitor in multiple disciplines from dirt to ashphalt, oval to road, Indy to F1 to Lemans. If it had 4 wheels and a motor, Mario probably raced it at one point…and won!!!

  8. Sederholm

lol, referencing the interview where Kaz says there will be 2 major releases in Dec and one in Jan and other minor additions each month (which I guess is true if they put in a lot of errors to later correct).

    Project Cars coming in November.

    1. mistersafeway

I’ve not read any of the novels, but I know enough to know that casting Tom Cruise as Reacher must have been out of the author’s control. The description I read of the character really puts him out of the running to be credible.

    2. Terronium-12

How so? You have to keep in mind, that I watched it knowing it was based on a novel only because the description mentioned such a thing. I knew nothing of it beforehand and was able to view it without any overlying agenda; whether that be how accurate it was in terms of what’s going on in the movie itself, how faithful it was to the original text, or that Cruise may or may not have been the best choice for whatever reason.

I was able to enjoy simply because I was so far removed from wanting to critique it that the entire film was entirely enjoyable for me, and I’m rarely afforded that convenience at a time where remakes and reboots, or reboots of remakes are somehow more plentiful than something that’s relatively original or unique in any way.

    1. HuskyGT

Am I sensing a bit of sarcasm here? Because if I am, then I’m glad I’m not the only one that think the Senna content will be the best thing that will ever happen to GT6.

  9. Hentis01

Just quietly waiting for what ever sort of Senna Content will be fourth coming. Couple senna carts. Also Sennas car from the end of the GT6 intro, well they had to put it in there for reason. It does nothing to fit in with the flow of the intro what so ever.
Having said that we do have Senna’s Racing Overalls but nothing else. Maybe Interlagos as a track that also co incides with the final round of GT Academy? Hey that’s just speculation? but it could be true???????

  10. ironman44321

I really, really hope the Senna content is something great. His legacy deserves it and he’s a hero of mine. I can’t wait for May 1st!
