I’m not even going to beat around the proverbial bush this week with the titular reference; the song, performed by .38 Special was the main theme to one of my favorite comedies ever: Broken Lizard’s Super Troopers. If you’re familiar with the movie or the comedy troupe’s work in general you’ll no doubt appreciate that you’re now picturing one (or all) of your favorite scenes right now, and for that you’re welcome.
Some of you will recall just last year December when I was rambling on about wanting to get rid of my increasingly inadequate iPod Touch, and while plans fell through acquiring it for Christmas as I had hoped, I did pick it up not too long afterward and the differences are night and day. Not only do I own a platform that isn’t going to be thrown the wayside the second it’s newest iteration hits the stands, but the sheer power of the thing leaves me in awe every single time I turn it on. I absolutely love it; if I could illustrate the Rewind as comfortably as I could from my desktop I would.
More of my rambling later on, let’s get the show on the road!
GTPlanet Picture of the Week
This week’s picture features the technologically-endowed monster of a supercar slayer, the Nissan GT-R, posing for the virtual camera in one of High Speed Ring’s stylistic tunnels. This fantastic shot comes to us courtesy of MadMoss. I’m beginning to see a developing trend with these recent images: they all make me want to fire up GT5 and get into a photo session.
Have a suggestion for next week’s featured image? Drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Picture of the Week” and fill it out with your two choices and they’ll be featured in upcoming Rewinds. NOTE: You cannot elect your own work.
Turbo’s Custom Tracks v3.0 | Realistic Tracks For Online Racing!
If you’ve been following the Rewind since it’s inception here at GTPlanet you’ll be able to recall a similar segment focusing on one of ANNIHILATOR90’s offerings in this department, well it’s time to revisit that idea and focus on another one of our own – R1600Turbo. ‘Turbo showcases his work which aims to give you, the player, the most realistic virtual track experience possible and can be used for anything from karts all the way up to an F1 monster.
The basic criteria for the creations are an explicit ‘flow’ to the track where rumble strips are placed where best needed, and the tracks themselves mustn’t be too difficult to navigate around. Each track has an incredible amount of time and thought put into them, averaging 1-4 hours.
My favorite of the available bunch is Keystone Raceway Park, a track that definitely has a comfortable and functioning flow, so much so that it reminds me of yet another favorite track from Gran Turismo’s past: Tahiti Road. If you want to see everything ‘Turbo has to offer, be sure to stop by his thread here.
GTPlanet Vehicle of the Week
This week’s featured vehicle, coming to us courtesy of Hyakushiki, is the Ford GT; the revival of Ford’s own Ferrari slayer that was revealed by Henry Ford II at the North American Auto Show in 2002. Built from the second concept car penned by Chief Designer Camilo Pardo, it pays tribute to the Mark II racer that dominated Le Mans.
Have a suggestion for next week’s featured image? Drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Vehicle of the Week” and fill it out with your two choices and they’ll be featured in upcoming Rewinds. NOTE: You cannot elect your own work.
GTPlanet Tune of the Week
This week’s featured tune caught my eye instantly — if only because of it’s unique descriptor. The Carrot Car tune done by VTiRoj of RKM Motorsport is, perhaps coincidentally based on last week’s featured vehicle – the Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ2 that can be obtained from the B-Spec Historic Racing Car Cup. The tune itself is optimized for the Nurburgring GP/D track, and the name is not only a play on words of it’s “Carrozzata” title, but also because it simply looks like a carrot: his words, not mine.
Exactly like the Picture and Vehicle of the Week features, if you have any suggestions for the upcoming Rewinds be sure to drop me a private message, entitle it “GTPlanet Tune of the Week” and let me know. NOTE: You cannot elect your own work.
GTPlanet Photomode Competitions
In Week 115 of the Standard and Advanced competitions you are to put your best foot forth and show the community just how seriously you take your in-game photography. All you need to know is as follows:
Week 115, Standard: Dubs Along The Rockies – Volkswagens and mountain scenery? Color me interested. This week’s theme is inspired by an event of the same name in Colorado, and as such you are to simply take any Volkswagen to any location with a mountain backdrop, park it someplace ideal and snap the perfect static shot for your People’s Car(s). Yes, cars, you can have more than one Vee-dub in the shot. Have at it!
Week 115, Advanced 2.0: M & M – No, not the candy. The upcoming 2013 F1 season grows nearer and nearer, in fact pre-season testing has just gotten underway but I can assure you it isn’t what you’re thinking—CCShaft7, the judge for this week’s event is a Lewis Hamilton fan, yet maintains his soft spot for Lewis’ former team, McLaren. Can you see where this is going? Take any road-going McLaren and Mercedes-Benz to a venue of your choosing and capture them at their best; whether it be head-to-head, side-by-side or a heated chase.
For all of the relevant information pertaining to this week’s challenges be sure to stop by here and here.
Closing Thoughts
You’ll notice that there’s no video feature this week either, but fear not, the feature will return next week with one of my favorite cars and I assure you the wait will be worth it. Earlier I mentioned that I’ve finally acquired my ASUS/Google Nexus 7, and it’s been absolutely fantastic since the second I booted into Jelly Bean—Android’s OS named after a delectable treat. I already have a surplus of games and other assorted applications in my possession, and as everyday passes I’m able to inject a little bit more of my personality into it.
I haven’t really played any console or PC game in the past two and a half weeks simply because I’ve been doing everything feasible in a far more comfortable fashion and I regret nothing. I’ll likely get back to GT5 over the weekend as I’m beginning to get that photomode itch, but enough of that. Beginning next week I’ll be opening an official Rewind thread so keep a look out for that. What will it contain? I have absolutely no idea but that’s why you should look out for it.
And on that bombshell it’s time to end – until next week keep racing!

Ford GT Ferrari slayer?
I dont know about that but good article with the photo of the GT-R
True story.
Buff up on your Le Mans history, its good for you.
Henry or one of his sons meet with Enzo with the hopes of Ford buying Ferrari. Enzo was on board for financial reasons but when Ford refused to allow him to maintain control of his racing program, he promptly said… ‘nice to meet you, have a nice day…’, or something like that. Ford, for some reason, vowed revenge, collaborated with Carol Shelby and created the GT40. Carol’s Daytona Coupe wasn’t fast enough or in lower class in the early to mid 60’s.
The GT40 failed to best Ferrari on it’s first showing at la Sarthe but defeated the 312s? from Ferrari and won overall the next 4 years running… love telling this story…
Just car history will do. It was quite a big thing in the 60’s. Ford nearly buying Ferrari. Deal was pretty much done and then Enzo pulled out. Infuriated Ford who then wanted to beat Ferrari at the own game. The car that was made was the Ford GT40. That won the Le Mans 24hrs 4 times in a row with various bodies. The MK2 was the 1st to win with Bruce Mclaren and Chris Amon at the wheel. Next was the MKIV. The 1st full American team to win the race. Then the Gulf liveried MK1’s won the last 2 times a GT40 won Le Mans. So Ferrari beater? Hell yeah and built to get revenge. Another company called mirage also built a car based on the GT40 called the M1. It used a redesigned body and the GT40’s engines. Jackie Ickx and Dick Thompson won Spa 1000km in 67.
Dang your wrote while I was writing. Don’t forget Lola also had some things to do with the GT40. Although it wasn’t until Shelby got hold of it that it actually started to win races.
I wasn’t aware of Lola’s involvement with the GT40. Wonder if they (Lola) had anything to do with that ugly rearend of the Mark IVs. I will look into that… Thanks
BTW, it’s funny how PD picks which models make it to which edition. I’d love to re-enact those moments. It’s like hit and miss but still enjoy playing.
3 times straight, 1 2 3 finishes in 1 of those
Lola contibuted the chasis (MK2) to Ford
