GTPlanet WRS (GT5) Week 1 – “Old School Tsukuba”

The GTPlanet Weekly Race Series for Gran Turismo 5 is finally underway! Taking advantage of the Online Seasonal Events 7 time trial offerings, the GTP Race Admin team have selected to grace Tsukuba Circuit with the fantastic Chevrolet Camaro Z28 ’69 as the WRS opener for GT5. For full regulation and specification details regarding the Week 1 combo, as well as discussion, see here

Remember, you WILL need to be officially registered and placed in a division to take part, and the posting of final laptimes are strictly prohibited until the results are announced after the submission deadline of Monday February 21st 11:59pm (GMT). Competitors are asked to only post their first and second sector times in the discussion thread, then check how they are stacking up on the WRS leaderboard here. Final times are to be submitted directly to the WRSFetchbot that runs the leaderboard, details of which can be found again in the first link above.

If you are new to the series and the GTP Registry, feel free to introduce yourself to the WRS community here

If you’re still interested in joining the GTP Registry but missed the initial submission deadline, here’s what to do next:

STEP 1: Create a GTP_Tag PSN account here

STEP 2: Wait a few weeks until the Registry Qualifier is opened again and then run the GTP WRS Qualifier. Details here

STEP 3: Submit your qualifier times when the registry re-opens and await divisional placement.

Further detailed information on all of the above can be found in this very useful post, and can be discussed on the forums here

Potential competitors are asked to first of all run an official WRS qualifier combo selected by the GTP Race Admin team in order to be placed in a division appropriate to their ability. It has been WRS tradition for competitors to not only be able to win a weekly race overall, but also take glory in their own division. Due to the new physics engine of GT5, all interested drivers are asked to run the new-for-GT5 qualifier.

Some important information:

  • The GTP WRS is run according to our strict but fair Online Racing (OLR) rules and guidelines found here
  • Registry Qualifier times and any information pertaining to them must be kept confidential and only revealed to Race Admin staff during submission
  • The WRS is mainly a time-trial / hotlapping contest, but your GTP_tag and divisional status will be used for upcoming official GTP Race Events
  • It might be a good idea if you’re interested to see how the WRS has been run in the past and what it entailed. The archive can be found here and the details of the GT5:Prologue WRS here

Remember to have fun and always show respect for your competitors. The WRS has never been a win-at-all costs kind of competition, but with prominent members of other GT forums such as GTRP, GTro and GT5rs also popping in from time to time and having a go, the best drivers that compete in the GTP_WRS are well recognised in the online community! So if you think you have what it takes, join us in the WRS forums

  1. guidance is internal

Create, wait 4-6 weeks, copy & save to new account, register, post sector times, submit here, submit there, etc. etc.
LOL..& I thought doing my taxes was complicated.

  2. Daniel

Damn, gonna have to wait till next registration so I can join :p
Tsukuba’s an alright circuit. Not too fond of it however -_-

  3. Reprogrammed

“Yawn” boring all you are thrash. Race me on Nürg comfort tired, raining, with a stocked F40 & see if you kids are good. C o cky “RACERS”

WOW, Mr. Machoman you really scared me there, and trust me, scaring a 43 years old kid isn’t easy at all.

      Long life WRS racers. :tup

Tsukuba circuit is the most undemandanding, boring and ugliest tracks in gt. Im cirtenley not going near the 9hr endurence after finishing the 4hr one. What you want from a track to keep it fun is unpredictibility eg blind corners. Thats why i love the nurburgring sooo much. Ive got nurburg-ringworm now =>

The picture was used to illustrate a rule, so I cranked it up to create some contrast. I admittedly am not the best in photo mode, but you’ll see some better shots in the thread.

WRS Week 1 – feels good to be back amongst the struggling :)
Well done to the Admin team for the speedy processing of the qualifier, and overcoming numerous hurdles to get this excellent competition under way again.

The first combo is a peach, so roll up and try your hand against some seriously talented drivers.

I don’t play so I don’t care, but don’t you stick to real rules? Two wheels on the rumble strips is fine, four wheels isn’t as it’s the entire car is outside the white line which defines the edge of the track.

    2. Aldo

If you don’t care why are you trying to change things?
WRS has always used the ruling that rumble strips are part of the track.
Also, your point is a bit invalid as at Brands Hatch on the first corner, all of the BTCC cars run wide with all 4 wheels on the rumble strip or 2 on the green bit…

    3. Simon

I’m just commenting, not trying to change anything. It’s also Sunday and I’m quite bored. :)

RE: Brands Hatch, I believe there are certain corners like that which it’s deemed ok to cut/go wide. Maybe some of the corners at Tsukuba are the same, I don’t know.

    Not first -.-

But very happy to have WRS back up so fast. Thanks to the OLR-team and Race Admins.
Should be good times battleling it out with fellow members .

P.S. forgive Aldo and PK for being kiddies <3

  7. CarBastard

Ohhh god…why Tsukuba? I hate this track so bad…

    Anyway, good luck to everybody!

PS: Are the GTP WRS leaderboards still working for this?

    1. GTP_pk_090

      on a more serious note…

Thankyou OLR team for sorting the qualifier results so quickly and for posting the first weeks event.

The time has now come for many nights in front of the tv and mcrowaveable meals.

      Good luck to all!

    1. Aldo

      Sorry…
But yeah, come join in the fun and battle it out with some of the fastest guys on GTPLanet (not me, I’m terrible ;) )
