GTPlanet’s GT6 Track Of The Week: Melder’s Brook

It’s the ninth week of our regular Track Of The Week article, and we’re changing gears. The last three circuits have been replicas of various world-famous venues (Road America, Serres Circuit, and, most recently, Portimao), while we’ve only had two fantasy tracks since the feature began nearly two months ago. The third to step into the spotlight is Melder’s Brook.

meldersbrook_MAPA blank page is a scary thing. When presented with one, free of any expectations, guidelines, or rules, the creative mind is overwhelmed. One could argue creativity requires limitations, even. This is what makes fantasy circuits such an interesting pursuit in GT6’s Track Path Editor. While the limitations of the app can make creating perfect replicas challenging, it’s those same limits that can make or break a fantasy circuit. Forum user eran0004 has picked up that gauntlet, and responded with this fast, technical raceway.

Not content with simply crafting the ribbon, eran0004 has created a map with a full set of corner names too. Above, you can watch as he threads the Zytek through the Needle’s Eye, or hauls things down in the approach to Anvil. Care is needed at the end of the lap, as Home Run houses a bump just before the main straight that can catch out poorly-sorted cars, inattentive drivers, or any combination of the two.

This was my selection this week, and I’m happy to report the track works well with a variety of classes, flowing as well for slower, street-based machinery as it does for the quicker vehicles. If you’re a fan of hillclimbs, you should also check out the rest of eran0004’s resources, where you’ll find a goldmine of twisty-road goodness.

No doubt a Great track by eran0004. Thankfully this wasn’t Eifel Flat, but the staff seems to like cookie cutter F1 tracks (replica or fantasy). I would have voted for his “Valsenio” resource. Unless there’s going to be a Track Path Academy searching for the next Tilke, how about some creative road courses? :-)

eran’s excellent hillclimb courses are what I first downloaded, and almost featured, but this track has a great flow to it, and arguably has more appeal for widespread use, especially online. That was the main reason for it being chosen, not, as you suggest, us being fans of “cookie cutters”.

That being said, some road courses are in the cards for future installments!

ANOTHER eifel layout… This environment has so much less grip than Andalusia and Death Valley.

Still gonna try it out though. The layout looks good.

I would assume that it’s because of road temperature. Higher temp = more grip. Andalusia is tropical, Death Valley is in the desert.
