Week 20, here we are! For this, the final staff-selected TOTW (read up here on how you can help choose next week’s track), we’re moving away from the Death Valley setting of last week’s track to the woods of Vienna. Welcome to Wiener Höhenstraße. At least, the first part of it…
This point-to-point track comes to us care of EmaNymton. Using maps to ensure the correct scale, Ema has recreated a road from his own backyard (almost). And what a road! While the elevation changes don’t always match up with the real world, the results are still challenging, and enjoyable. The narrow road forces drivers to consider their speeds, making sure each contact patch stays between the lines.
As a long-time reader of European car magazines – and with no roads even remotely resembling it here in Canada – this ribbon of tarmac immediately grabbed my attention. It feels like the sort of road made for a cover story. Of particular appeal is the descent closer to the end of the track (starting at about 3:07 in the video). It’s reminiscent of the first drop on a rollercoaster, when you see the track unrolling off in the distance, and know there’s no turning back. Just sit back, and enjoy the dive!
(Sorry about the poor video quality: my Hauppauge was not agreeing with me this week.)
The TZ2 is an ideal companion for this sighting run. Not too fast, but very light, it makes for an excellent few minutes. Sure, the Höhenstraße does not lend itself to out-and-out racing like a circuit does, but every once in a while, it’s worth easing off a bit, and remembering the tagline on GT6’s box. Sometimes, it’s just about the driving.
You can grab Wiener Höhenstraße Part I here. Want the set? Grab the second half here.
That wraps up the staff selections for TOTW. I’d like to thank all of the members that have created the selections so far, and all those that have contributed to the GTPlanet Track Database, putting it at over 2,000 tracks! As mentioned up top, we’re now handing the selection process over to you, the reader. You can find all the details in this forum thread. Happy driving!

Thank you very much to all of the staff who have elected my “Wiener Höhenstraße” as TOTW!!!
WOW, what an honour and what a surprise!
Unfortunately TPE does not have all the features needed to reproduce this road as it really is, but at least the outline of the road as it leads throug the “Vienna Forest” is 100% accurate!
It was a long and hard work to get that straight and as real as possible!
Elevation changes are as close to reality as possible, and also the width of the road is 100% real.
It is in reality a narrow road, but not a One-Way, 2 cars can pass, but no room for a 3rd (without crash).
Also the middle- and sideline-paintings are missing, and in reality about 80 % of the whole track are made from cobblestones!
There is forest and woods all over the place, which also cannot be planted in TPE, as well as 2 or 3 Points of View which cannot be made.
It is one of the last real adventures for a sports car driver to go there early in the morning when not many cars are to be found (and no police ;o)).
You can see the real thing in Google Maps if you visit the following link (this is from where I have taken the outline of the road, printing it on transparency-foils and working with this in TPE:

Thanks mate! ;o)
Nice words in the ears of a 64 years old geezer!
