If you were hoping to attend the final preliminary live event in the 2024 Gran Turismo World Series and hadn’t yet picked up some tickets, your time has run out.
What’s bad news for you is good news for Polyphony Digital, as all tickets of all types have now sold out, making the Tokyo event the second sell-out crowd this year. Only the Prague event didn’t entirely fill its venue, in the heart of the Czech capital, which perhaps comes as a surprise given that Europe is Gran Turismo’s biggest market.
The event is set to take place on Saturday September 28, again with both the Manufacturers Cup and Nations Cup running back-to-back on the same day — a busy one for any driver pulling a double-duty!
While Tokyo is a regular stop for the GT World Series, this year’s venue is a brand-new one. Quite literally, as it happens, as the Tokyo Kabukicho Tower which hosts it only opened in May 2023.
The spectacular, 250m tower, in the Kabukicho entertainment district, sports a number of visitor attractions — including an eight-screen cinema — but it’s the Theater Milano-za that will be the venue for the World Series. This occupies the 6th to 8th floors of the tower, and can seat around 900 people in the theater layout likely used for the finals.
It’s the third and final chance for the racers in the Nations Cup and the brands in the Manufacturers Cup to secure World Series points before the live, three-day final in Amsterdam later in the year. We’re expecting fraught competition as the players all seek to get an advantage before the big points in the finals.
Along with the racing itself, we’re expecting to hear more from Polyphony Digital about its plans for the free “My First Gran Turismo” game that was announced during the week, and which will form part of the PlayStation 30th Anniversary celebrations taking place throughout the next three months.
