Highly-Anticipated PlayStation Magazine Disappoints

playstationmagazine-1 playstationmagazine-2

Since E3 earlier this month, the entire GT community has been looking forward to the release of July’s PlayStation Official Magazine, after last month’s issue promised a major Gran Turismo 5 feature article.  Early this morning, the new French edition started hitting newsstands, and it didn’t take long for scans to hit the web – for all the wrong reasons.  No new information could be found, and the screenshots were simply lifted from the official E3 trailer.  Some are still holding out hope that the UK or US editions will contain fresh content, but that’s extremely unlikely.  We’ll keep an eye out just in case…

People keep referring to this magazine as “OPM”.  However, that’s the acronym of the now-defunct “Official PlayStation Magazine“.  The new magazine is called the PlayStation: The Official Magazine.  Both were/are associated with Sony, which drove speculation that they would use their own media property to announce new information about GT5.

i have just recieved my issue of offical playstation mag uk and there is even less than there is in the scans from the french version of the mag, the only thing that is in the uk mag is a one page feature with 2 paragraphs of writing and 7 small screens from the e3 trailler, :o(, and also going on at end that they think we will have the game before 2009 ends due to producer saying that the game is ready and could be realsesed at any time they want

  2. veedus

to those who cant wait for this game to come out…

do you wake up thinking about when gt5 is going to be released? do you feel stressed out because you cant play GT5? do you go around town asking random people when GT5 is going to be released? prolly not. I know I dont do these things. the only time i start to think about GT5 is when i jump online. once i finish using my computer, i completely forget about GT5. I also like to believe everybody here is the same way, for the most part. if you find yourself getting mad at PD for not giving you a release date, get up off your computer and go outside or something.

  3. Johnny Dazed

People – don’t be dissing PD.
They don’t choose when and how the flow of info comes out, Sony does.
and right now Sony dont want to overshadow the PSPgo release, so as soon as that has launched it will be all go for GT5 promo.

PD are working their asses off to create THE best game ever made for you, so just shut up.

  4. Nomino

Well, I hate to say I told you so, but…I did tell you all that’s all it would be. But noooooo, people harped on about other news being a possibility. LMFAO!

  5. craig

@ DaveTheStalker You organise it by artist, it puts all the songs by that artist in to a folder. You organise by album, it puts all the songs from an album in to a folder. It’s not that difficult mate, it does what it’s supposed to do. Use your computer if it’s too hard for you.

  6. DaveTheStalker

@sean It does not organize right. I have it organized by artist. However, when I go into XYZ Band, I see 50 songs instead of 5 single folders (albums) containing the tracks for each individual album.

Just like on you computer. I doubt you have a directory for XYZ Band, when you go to that directory, you don’t see each track. You see each album. Within each album you see it’s tracks.

After 3 years, Sony still has not fixed this very basic sort/view function.

  7. DaveTheStalker

Every other GT release was pre-internet BOOM. With all of the social networking, message boards, and people pretty much living on the web, there is NO EXCUSE for PD/Sony to not use the tools at their finger tips. It’s a choice.

Previous GT games 1 – 3 had the bulk of their info delivered via magazines. Before GT3 came out, I bought EVERY magazine that had any mention of GT3 in it. Sorry gents, we are no longer living in the paper media generation. We are in the INSTANT info age! Get with the times Sony! This is part of the reason why M$ is whipping our (_|_). Sony is slow to embrace this sort of public relations.

For cryin’ out loud, we can’t even organize our music on the XBM by Artist\Album\Track.

  8. Godzilla157890

To anyone who will come in here and diss Polyphony Digital (that’s the correct way to spell it) please, PLEASE KNOW that PD is a very tight lipped company (unlike those CO*KS at Turn 10 who yaps there f’n mouth every single day @ Dairy Queen like little eager cocky 3 year olds) they dont want to release new info early in case of the fact they (PD) have to take it out later. End of rant. Seacreast OUT!

  9. Emmanuel

it’s their problem if they can’t be patient. They’ll spend money on the 360 and forza…..they’ll regret it cause not everybody can afford 2 consoles and the respective games.

  10. Alan

People will not be able to be patient, sony have made a major f**k up again, remember what happened when people got fed up waiting for the ps3 to come out, they went and bought a 360 instead, and still to this day the 360 is outselling the ps3.

I can understand sony wanting to get this game perfect but people will now just go out and buy forza instead

  11. Shokz

I just thought i’d comment to mention that a lot of you’ve been shouting “loose” and “loosing” when it’s spelt “lose” and “loosing”. Yes, there’s a difference, they mean totally different things.

  12. AngerdX

    @Guitar421

Now that´s the most plausible speculation i´ve seen sofar hehe
good read if nothing else! :)

  13. caribbean topdriver

at first i was annoyed…………. but then i study………. why no detail? then it click to me these guys at pd know what they doing, don’t look for shit till after forza 3 launch… not even another movie, gt5 gonna be big…. real big. let turn 10 spill their beans they need to, they need fans, pd will always be top.

  14. jabofu

It’s more than easy. Just go and buy Forza 3 in Oktober and play it till GT5 comes out. But i bet that some people go back to Forza in the end.

  15. Enciah

    It’s incredible, 5/6 € for…..sony’s E3 press conference summary:crazy:

And more… they are talking to the conditional, very nice for an official magazine

Where is the interest of this “official” magazine…:grumpy:

  16. STEPHEN M

    @Northstar3914

well said and that a reason why i might not get it straight away…wait til i have the decent amount of dosh to get it! whats with all the complaints-it aint even been released ffs. wait til the product comes out…then make ur complaints

  17. Guitar421

FWIW. This info is literally from a friend of a friend that knows someone involved in the product roll out plan so take this with some skepticism (but this makes for a good story anyway).

GT5 is essentially done and will certainly be out prior to the holidays. The delay is due to a couple of factors. One is related to the Forza release and what it will end up in it’s package. This is not due to any specific gameplay features that Forza may have but it’s content (cars, tracks, etc.) in the delivered game. GT5 has a lot of content (much more than GT4) and they (Sony) wants to deliver some of it as DLC (at additional cost of course) but still have the retail disc have much more content than Forza to have a marketing edge in that regard. They also don’t want to announce any release until the last moment to kill any initial surge sales for the new portable and GT PSP. I was told that a mid to late-October announcement (to steal some thunder from the Forza release) and a mid to late-November release.

The second reason (and this I was told was more important) is that they plan to have GT5 as part of a bundle with a new PS3 unit (guessing the rumored slim model). They want both out the last part of the year to push their holiday sales totals higher. The hope is that this combo could at least have the PS3 sell more units than the 360 during the Christmas season and create some buzz that the PS3 is back and not the last place console, etc. and that sales momentum would carry forward.

Again this is all third hand information (or worse) so ridicule me at will.

No mention of a PS3 price cut but I personally think they got to do that as well.

  18. Rhett Mash

Why the frustration? Of course, you will be frustrated if you waited in line to snag a PS3 just so that you can play THIS VERY game. So much was promised to be released much before this article was written. In the meantime, all I’m left with is a half way demo with the promise of online. Hell, after an hour or 2, I’m lucky if I get to finish a race without any opponent dropping off. I think i have a right to be frustrated when I spent 600 dollars because PD said they would release an awesome GT5 soon and all I’m left with is a good looking demo.

Sure, take your time and polish the game. Looking around, I feel stupid, because the 360 fanboys are getting their 2nd full racing game since I bought my PS3. If this christmas 2009 does not materialize, I’m trading my PS3 for a 360 and Forza.

  19. RaLpH89

    @Krymzen

1000% True! LOl. GT5 will probably twice as big as GT4 or maybe 4 times, that’s like twice as much hours GT4 did in my life!. Imagine racing at Le Mans with better A.I, that would suck a lot of time unlike in GT4 you can just go add 1000hp on your car then put it on spec-b the entire night. LOL

Some people on this news just trolling around, maybe forza fankids who knows. GT4 is worst than this.

  20. Krymzen

    These comments are just LOL.

Gran Turismo and PD have always been like this. The run up to GT4 was worse than this! No info, what so ever, just a poxy Prologue Licence Test game.

Just wait for the damn game people! Play something else, do something else with your life, until GT5 takes over. Think of this time without GT5 as a blessing, you can use your life for whatever you want. As soon as GT5 comes, that’s it. GT5 takes over your time. GF leaves you, you loose your job etc etc. :P

  21. Martin

Shame on the magazine for promoting something that just wasn’t there. Unfortunately, that’s usually how this kind of magazine is.

As for PD in general, oh well. They’ve always been very secretive as well as deliberate, both of which lead to a tough development cycle for the close fans. But what we all have to remember is that we are close fans, and that GT5’s development only seems grueling to us. No matter how much we scream that PD will lose fans, they most likely will have another blockbuster when GT5 comes out. Most people haven’t been reading about it for the last 5 years. When they see that GT5 has been released, they’ll say “Oh, I remember the other one was fun” or “I read great reviews about this!”. Not, “Well, PD took forever so they don’t deserve my money”. I don’t believe in this concept that after a certain amount of time the fans just lose all hope and won’t actually by the game when it hits on the shelves. Especially when they are presently interested enough to keep up with all the new info.

TL,DR version: It really sucks that GT5 is taking so long, but there’s nothing that we can do about it. It’s worked in the past, it will work again. Polyphony knows this and isn’t going to abandon a previously successful method.

By the way, lose is spelled with one “o”. Same for losing.

  22. Northstar3914

@ everyone who says they are losing fans. They aren’t losing fans, hell this site has increased by at least 1,000 by E3. When it comes out millions will buy it including those who say they won’t. Currently the only reason I may not get it is because I can’t afford it.

  23. what

ugh, everyone just shutup. When it gets released, everyone will be like “OMFG ITS WAS WORTH THE WAIT AHHH I LOVE YOU POLYPHONY.” Get a life people

  24. George

I hope NFS Shift blows GT5 physics away then PS3 owners won’t be hostage to PD for a good sim racing game.

  25. craig

Why is everyone whining about this, EVERY other Gran Turismo release has been the same. They bring out a demo or prolouge, then the release date gets pushed back and back and back until they are happy to release the final version.

Why leak new gameplay elements now before forza 3 is released, to keep the fans happy?

Are you not buying the game now because they keep things secret at PD?

Neck up you parrots. It’ll be here when it gets here. I want to be surprised the first time i play the game and not know about every new change they’ve made. PD, keep your mouth shut and keep working on the gem that will be GT5!

  26. rich_uk

PD must have some devoted staff how many years have we been waiting and no leaks! apart from the mysterious Amar (could be staff) thats if his info is genuine, i will buy GT5 whenever it comes out i just hope its this year and i will be happy oh and it has my fiesta st in it lol ; )

meanwhile ill just have to play forza 3 but its no replacement for the real deal lol

  27. jc

ghey, this is why I bought a PS3 and right now its covered in dust. I use it more for movies then gaming. im sorry but when you say “we can release it whenever” and then totally clam up you come off as a d!ck

  28. Northstar3914

I don’t get why people feel they got screwed. I don’t remember seeing “new info” anywhere about this info. All they said it was is a preview, now if they said “exclusive details” I could understand, but they didn’t.

  29. DaveTheStalker

Wasn’t GT5P announced at TGS 07 and then hit shelves shortly after that??? I’m not the only one thinking that the same holds true for this situation.

  30. Jack_uk

The thing is guys is not to loose your heads Polyphony Will go at their own pace to make probably one of the greatest games of all time we need to be patient, News will come to us, some form or way It won’t just come in massive packs, It will come in small strands. OK if you want information you need to watch and get information from up and coming shows like TGS. I believe very strongly it will come out this year (Only My Opinion, Not Saying It will) I admit I can’t wait but still I would rather wait for a masterpiece rather than recieve a quickly made inaccurate game that could easily of been better. I say the next part of info we are going to get that is relevant to anything is probably TGS

  31. Dom

WE NEED NEW INFO NOW. People will buy Forza 3, and for what those cocky idiots have shown at E3, the game offers a good experience.
Of course, we, the real fans want the GT feeling and the superb game, after all. Not showing anything new makes me think if PD is afraid to fail this time. I feel that the PS3 development was not that clean as we all were hoping for. Anyway, making us wait is not helping in this case.

  32. whats_this_all_about?

Am I the only one who finds all this panicking funny? I mean, one letdown and people start running around with their arms in the air, screaming “PD WILL LOSE FANS AND GT WILL DIE!”. Just relax guys, the situation hasn’t worsened and the game will come out eventually, and it will be great.

And what the heck is this “if they won’t give us some info soon I wont buy the game” thing anyway? Forgive me if I’m wrong, but hasn’t PD always been like that? Yes, it sucks, but we will just have to deal with it.

  33. DaveTheStalker

Yep, it figures, we got hosed by PTOM!!! (It’s been PTOM for a long time now, it’s actually the PSM folks, not OPM. PTOM’s first issue had GT5P on the cover. PTOM are also the same people that bring us QORE on PSN).

  34. Emmanuel

yes christmas 2009 is repeated 2 or 3 times in these scans but once again this is nothing new since that’s what we all expect. It’s not official though

  35. Jack_uk

well in the forums someone said somthing about OPM going on about a christmas 2009 release. Of course nothing Official yet but at the moment everything seems to be pointing to an 09 release, Excluding Retailer dates. Like the Gt by Citroen roaming through Le Mans, London & Goodwood, The banners at Le Man & now this. Not saying or right or wrong

  36. floydoverdrive

This just simply cannot be. I’m feeling very very sad right now… bought the ps3 mainly for the release of this game and now PD keeps hiding info that all Gran Turismo fan community have right to put hands on. I’ve been following this news section for almost a month on a regular day-basis (and I know the rest of you have been doing this MUCH more time than me), and this particular magazine publication had me going. I really espected even a little new info, even just a picture (didn’t hoped for a release date obviously) and NOTHING, pure NOTHING…

I’m very afraid that PD cannot fulfill the market’s standards and expectation with the actual game architecture (i.e. improved physics, [[CAR DAMAGE]], new collision system, etc) and that’s why they keep avoiding game related questions, hoping to make time for the re-development. Please prove me wrong, or you will have one less GT fan among you!!!

  37. Andy

Sheeesh… what another dissapointment, I really worry that GT5 is anywhere near ready – particularly with Polyphony staff snooping around the Forza presentation taking notes.
What the heck is that all about?!

Even a small tid-bit of information would keep the fans happy for a couple of months, or even 6 if it were a CAST IRON release date.

I’m a software developer and know how hard it is to estimate project timelines, but to throw a new key feature out there cant be that hard surely…

  38. James

I agree with Emmanuel, I was waiting and waiting for OPM or whatever its called to have some new info on GT5, but no, they just talk about the E3 trailer that everyone has seen, so when is there gonna be some new info, because I want some new info from Sony!

  39. Emmanuel

I feel insulted! You know we already saw the teaser and it has been analyzed on every single forum. Shame on you OPM! Nobody should buy your magazine.
