Milestone has revealed a pair of new Hot Wheels Unleashed content packs inspired by the DC Universe, which will be coming along over the next few weeks.
The two separate packs are available in different ways through the slightly confusing DLC strategy for HWU, with some free content and some paid content.
First up is the “DC Super-Villains Racing Season”, which will see a mixture of free and paid content depending on whether you purchase the season or not. Players will engage with a set of challenges over the course of the season, which will run from November 11 to January 18, 2022.
We expect this to function like seasonal events on mobile games, with a “free” path that awards content and currency to all players, and a “premium” path with grander prizes only available to those who buy the season. The season is a standalone purchase not included in any game passes or any special version of the game, and prices are yet to be revealed.
However, the season will introduce six new DC-themed vehicles named and designed for famous comic-book villains. Bane, Black Manta, The Cheetah, Deathstroke, Harley Quinn, and Poison Ivy all get their own cars, all of which are Premium content and require purchase of the season.
Along with the new vehicles there’ll be customization items for the Basement and the Player Profile along the same theme — it’s unclear if these are free or premium items at the moment — and all players will receive gears and coins for beating the DC Super-Villains challenges.
More clear is the paid Batman Expansion DLC, which is included in the Hot Wheels Pass Vol. 1 or available as a standalone purchase from December 2.
The expansion adds five new vehicles, with Armored Batman and Batman Rebirth joining Robin 2.0T, The Joker GT, and The Penguin racing around the Hot Wheels track.
In addition there’s an entirely new environment for players to get to grips with which is, naturally, the Batcave. There’s new circuits and items within, and players will be able to create their own tracks within the cave.
Track Builder addicts will be able to add a new track module called the Joker Funhouse Split, which batters cars heading down one of two paths with large tenderizing mallets. There’s plenty of customization items too.
One final addition in the Batman Expansion DLC is a new section of the Career map, which is set in the Dark Knight’s home city of Gotham.
The DLC will become available on December 2, although no price has yet been announced. You can of course pick up the Hot Wheels Pass Vol. 1 at $29.99 (£24.99/€29.99) which includes the Batman Expansion, ten exclusive vehicles, three themed customization packs, and three unique track builder modules.
