The European round of GT Academy 2011 has had a bit of trouble getting started in Italy. As you may recall, the rules officially stated the competition wouldn’t kick off in the country until today, March 18th, at 8 AM GMT. However, the launch date has passed and, as of writing, there’s still no sign of the Academy there yet. Italy also appears to have been removed from the list of eligible countries on the official website.
I’ve reached out for official confirmation on the news and will update this blog post accordingly.
UPDATE: Though it’s still not clear why Italy is now missing from the official country list, Italians may now register and they do appear to be able to post times. Good news!

TAKE THAT ITALY!
wow so many selfish comments, cmon you guys arnt that pathetic :|
Didn’t imagine there were so many stupid and ignorant people playing Gt5…!
Anyway Italians taking part to academy this year are less than 4000: thought many more , honestly….
Italy is like the Alabama of Europe right?
It’s even worse.
its like a Pakistan of Europe… horrifically idiotic racist backward inbreds
lol, brainfade. I’m italian and I kinda agree with your comment. Luckily, not all italians are dumbass racists, but still, thos3 who actually are racist are the disgrace of our country and they manage to give us a bad name.
To each their own, I guess, lol.
Perhaps Australia could replace Italy?? ;)
they’re certainly be alot more useful!
i think its more to do with the fact that not a single player from Italy DOESNT cheat
Yeah, italians in general like to cheat, they do it just for fun tho…
For one thing Kaz tweeted that updates this month are “impossible’. There has been radiation now in Tokyo. A video game is the last thing people in that country need to be worried about. Their future, on the other hand, is full of uncertainty. Last week’s updates may be the last for GT5…EVER. Wake up.
very true… Sony are looking at axing PD at this moment in time
I didn’t mean that Sony was going to axe PD. Sony is in Japan too. Getting food that is not radioactive is much more of an issue then a video game update.
@ Steaker – “Getting food that is not radioactive is much more of an issue then a video game update”. damn casual gamers coming in here -hehehe-
Canada has yet to be included still. ):
???? yes
how do i get that awesome GTR ?
Someone answer this question, I want that car too!
Get all Golds on your Super License I believe.
Not actually as hard as previous Super License tests.
dgaf
How about Canada being included?
Nobody cares about Canada. When, just when will you figure that out?
Youre all very polite… I like you Canadians
P.S. you guys are all like the mountie from that old show Due South right?
Because not all Canadians live in Chicago.
In order for Canada to matter to Americans, they’d have to know where to find it on a map…
I heard that Terrance and Phillip insulted Kaz.
atleast they don’t cheat like Americans do.
Your mom!
is hot… I would
They cheat some other way then because the entire online community, I don’t care from where, is a culture of cheaters.
I want that GT-R damnit!
All Golds in Super License kgo.
Is that what they get for breaking-out of the track? (The news post has an Italian Youtube Video that explains the glitch)
I’m Italian, registered today to the GT Academy and I can regularly post lap times, so I think everything is ok right now.
they only have 1 car and track combo?? Geez, Our first round had 3!!
Ehi Jordan! Granturismo website stated that GT Academy official start was at 8am GMT!!!!!!!
It had a regular start this morning, and Italy is finally in.
At last.
Very happy to listen about racism here :(
Italy given the boot!
*chortle chortle*
Oh dear lord…
Beepity boopity
This must be a hoax :

Watch it, I’m Italian myself lol. Although exactly why they dropped Italy out is strange to me. If it has something to do with that go-kart conflict, then it’s payback ;)
Hi Jordan, I can confirm GT Academy 2011 starts today in Italy. I’ve just filled in the registration form and can now run for the win! :D
I’m italian and today i’ve sent my registration via website. they confirm me and now i’ll try in game! good luck to all!!
Odd isn’t it that seeing as the word Gran Turismo is Italian they see it fit to drop Italy from the GT Academy. Ah well must be some political reason that’s probably causing it.
Sienna Kart track coming back to bite them in the butt :D lol
I’m guessing it has more to do with the 150th anniversary celebrations. No-one does a holiday like the Italians…
because the Italians cheat… or is that only in football? (soccer to you guys across the pond hehe)
I love italian football ;)
Internazionale ^^
they spell it Futball
Everyone noticed the nationalities of those doing that 24 hour Nurburgring cheat, right?
Better than the Germans… Fussball whats that all about haha! But glad to see the Italians being able to sign up… GT5 is a global racing game, and of all countries you cant exclude Italy
Shame for all our Italian GT neighbours. Dont really understand why they would drop it from the eligible countries unless there is some legal or cost implications.
I hope they get added back.
Amiamo l’Italia
true, seems strange dropping a country for no reason, especially Italy… I mean come on car passion and Italy go together like spagetti and sauce…
hope they get back in too.
Canada has yet to be included still. ):
i think Italy should be dropped from Europe, silly pokey out excuse for a country :)
If that’s supposed to be a joke, at least try and make it funny instead of just making yourself look like a backwards yokel.
Because I’m not from Italy.
Oh look, its about time for Berlusconi to go shag another hooker and go pop one off like Etna.
Is that supposed to be funny?
I just want make you know that Berlusconi does NOT represent ALL the italians in the world. I accept PD decision, is time to think about Japan now.
Hah, that’s what they get for being snarky stuck up pieces of nerd about that kart track.
Hahah. :D
LOL. Make sure they’re aren’t any Italian flags on the track.
They had the right to ask that their flags were removed. Stop whining about that.
