Italy Dropped from GT Academy EU 2011 (UPDATE)

The European round of GT Academy 2011 has had a bit of trouble getting started in Italy. As you may recall, the rules officially stated the competition wouldn’t kick off in the country until today, March 18th, at 8 AM GMT. However, the launch date has passed and, as of writing, there’s still no sign of the Academy there yet. Italy also appears to have been removed from the list of eligible countries on the official website.

I’ve reached out for official confirmation on the news and will update this blog post accordingly.

UPDATE: Though it’s still not clear why Italy is now missing from the official country list, Italians may now register and they do appear to be able to post times. Good news!

Didn’t imagine there were so many stupid and ignorant people playing Gt5…!
Anyway Italians taking part to academy this year are less than 4000: thought many more , honestly….

lol, brainfade. I’m italian and I kinda agree with your comment. Luckily, not all italians are dumbass racists, but still, thos3 who actually are racist are the disgrace of our country and they manage to give us a bad name.
To each their own, I guess, lol.

For one thing Kaz tweeted that updates this month are “impossible’. There has been radiation now in Tokyo. A video game is the last thing people in that country need to be worried about. Their future, on the other hand, is full of uncertainty. Last week’s updates may be the last for GT5…EVER. Wake up.

I didn’t mean that Sony was going to axe PD. Sony is in Japan too. Getting food that is not radioactive is much more of an issue then a video game update.

@ Steaker – “Getting food that is not radioactive is much more of an issue then a video game update”. damn casual gamers coming in here -hehehe-

They cheat some other way then because the entire online community, I don’t care from where, is a culture of cheaters.

Is that what they get for breaking-out of the track? (The news post has an Italian Youtube Video that explains the glitch)

I’m Italian, registered today to the GT Academy and I can regularly post lap times, so I think everything is ok right now.

Ehi Jordan! Granturismo website stated that GT Academy official start was at 8am GMT!!!!!!!

It had a regular start this morning, and Italy is finally in.
    At last.

Very happy to listen about racism here :(

Watch it, I’m Italian myself lol. Although exactly why they dropped Italy out is strange to me. If it has something to do with that go-kart conflict, then it’s payback ;)

Hi Jordan, I can confirm GT Academy 2011 starts today in Italy. I’ve just filled in the registration form and can now run for the win! :D

  8. Pelice

I’m italian and today i’ve sent my registration via website. they confirm me and now i’ll try in game! good luck to all!!

  9. TheFlyingKiwi

Odd isn’t it that seeing as the word Gran Turismo is Italian they see it fit to drop Italy from the GT Academy. Ah well must be some political reason that’s probably causing it.

  10. VDubbin

I’m guessing it has more to do with the 150th anniversary celebrations. No-one does a holiday like the Italians…

Better than the Germans… Fussball whats that all about haha! But glad to see the Italians being able to sign up… GT5 is a global racing game, and of all countries you cant exclude Italy

  11. Paul Mc

Shame for all our Italian GT neighbours. Dont really understand why they would drop it from the eligible countries unless there is some legal or cost implications.

I hope they get added back.

true, seems strange dropping a country for no reason, especially Italy… I mean come on car passion and Italy go together like spagetti and sauce…
hope they get back in too.

If that’s supposed to be a joke, at least try and make it funny instead of just making yourself look like a backwards yokel.

    2. Its funny

      Because I’m not from Italy.

Oh look, its about time for Berlusconi to go shag another hooker and go pop one off like Etna.

    3. HKS racer

I just want make you know that Berlusconi does NOT represent ALL the italians in the world. I accept PD decision, is time to think about Japan now.
