2011’s European GT Academy winner Jann Mardenborough has been nominated by UK magazine Autosport for their British Club Racing Driver of the Year award.
The nomination follows a remarkable rookie season in which Jann and his RJN Motorsport team won their first British GT pole position at the Nürburgring and race at Brands Hatch, remaining in the running for the overall title with just an hour of the season remaining. Previous winners of the award include future F1 drivers Eddie Irvine, David Coulthard and future IndyCar and Indy 500 champion Dario Franchitti.
The award is one of two with GT Academy involvement as the Highcroft Racing Nissan DeltaWing, recently driven to an incredible 5th place overall at Petit Le Mans by a team including 2009 GT Academy winner Lucas Ordoñez, is nominated as Racing Car of the Year. Voting forms for all the award categories can be found on page 82 of this week’s (25th October) Autosport magazine, while the awards ceremony itself will be held on December 2nd at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel.
This weekend also marks the final appearance this season of a GT Academy driver in a major international race series, as 2010’s winner Jordan Tresson competes in the 6hr of Shanghai.
After Saturday’s qualifying at the Shanghai International Circuit, the French driver’s #23 Signatech Nissan sits 7th in class ahead of Sunday’s race. The race gets underway at 03.00GMT/UTC on Sunday with a live stream available on the FIA WEC website and commentary on Radio Le Mans.
