Lamborghini Launches One-Make Esports Series: The Real Race

Famed Italian supercar manufacturer Lamborghini will take its first steps into the world of esports with its own challenge series.

The event, called “The Real Race”, will five qualifier weekends through the summer, with a rather special prize for the 12 top gamers. Lamborghini will run the event through Assetto Corsa Competizione, which will be free to download over this weekend — May 29-31 — to facilitate as many entries as possible.

It’s a one-make series, featuring the Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo. To suit the occasion, Lamborghini has drafted in its in-house design branch, Centro Stile, to create 12 liveries for the car — featuring appropriate sponsor logos like Pertamina.

Although the full format and timing is not yet clear, players will have a week to qualify in the game for a race on each following weekend. The first qualifying week starts today, May 29, and the first race will then take place on June 7. The fastest players from each race — the top three of the first and last race, and the top two of the others — will then qualify for an exclusive finals event.

Lamborghini plans to bring the 12 finalists to its headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese, for a three day racing experience. There the players will get to train with the Squadra Corsa race drivers, and even get to drive a real Lamborghini race car at “an internationally renowned racetrack”. That will, of course, also include a live digital final to determine the fastest driver overall.

Registration — and that free ACC download — opens today, at esports.lamborghini. There’ll be a special live presentation from Lamborghini to launch the event later this evening, which you’ll be able to watch below.

Stefano Domenicali, CEO of Lamborghini, comments:

“Sim racing is one of the fastest growing sectors in esports, with esports increasingly important to younger generations. I also follow it closely! This is an opportunity for us to combine the excitement of virtual racing with the appeal of Lamborghini cars and our motorsports program.

“Esports creates an environment where race heroes and top drivers can be challenged by anyone. This encourages wider engagement with real-life racing, reflected by Lamborghini’s investment in this new sports platform.”
